A variety of significant health effects are associated with occupational exposures to noise and vibration, which are an integral part of many agricultural operations. Since vibrating surfaces represent one of the primary sources of noise, exposures to both types of physical stressors are commonly encountered. The effects of noise and vibration exposures may be exacerbated among farm workers because they tend to be more isolated than workers in other types of industry. As a consequence, access to health and safety information, medical care, and hazard control technology may be more restricted.

Refusal skills training was extended to sexually active handicapped female adolescents who lacked an effective refusal strategy. Role-plays for assessment and training were developed using the who, what, when and where of situations which resulted in unwanted intercourse. Refusal skills were trained following the format of rationale, modeling, rehearsal, feedback, and reinforcement. Baseline rates of most target behaviors were quite low. An articulation index calculation procedure developed for use with individual normal-hearing listeners [C. Pavlovic and G. Studebaker, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 75, 1606-1612 (1984)] was modified to account for the deterioration in suprathreshold speech processing produced by sensorineural hearing impairment.
