Metastatic Pancreatic Cancer Diagnosed From a Lesion in the External Auditory Canal.

Metastases to the external auditory canal (EAC) are extremely rare and most often arise from breast, renal or lung carcinoma. To our knowledge, this is the first case of metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma to the EAC. A 34-year-old male patient, a smoker, presented with a 15-month history of right otalgia, otorrhoea, and hearing loss. Examination revealed a large, fleshy, and friable EAC lesion suspicious for neoplastic aetiology. Biopsy reported poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma. Subsequent imaging revealed a large pancreatic head mass, confirming a diagnosis of metastatic pancreatic aden

Patent foramen of Huschke causing persistent otorrhoea.

Patent foramen of Huschke is an uncommon condition that may lead to otological symptoms. A woman in her 60s presented with left-sided clear watery otorrhoea while eating. Despite multiple consultations, diagnosis was delayed. Examination in our clinic revealed a bead of clear discharge emerging from the anterior canal wall with jaw movement. A temporal bone scan confirmed a lesion bridging the canal with the left temporomandibular joint and bulging through a dehiscence in the anterior canal wall. She was diagnosed with patent foramen of Huschke. We report the surgical management of this case,

Case Report: When infection mimics autonomic failure: postural hypotension secondary to skull base osteomyelitis.

BACKGROUND: Skull base osteomyelitis (SBO) is an uncommon but life-threatening complication of necrotising otitis externa, typically affecting older adults with diabetes. Presentation is often non-specific, and diagnosis is frequently delayed. CASE: An 84-year-old man with type 1 diabetes, vascular comorbidity and advanced frailty presented with a fall preceded by dizziness on standing. He reported a 6-month history of recurrent falls and severe postural light-headedness; persistent right-sided otalgia and offensive otorrhoea had been present for the preceding 3 months, indicating that the ea

[Tympanic membrane perforation].

Tympanic membrane perforation is a common condition with varying aetiology and clinical presentation. In this review, diagnosis, prognosis and management are outlined. Many perforations heal spontaneously, especially small traumatic ones without infection, while others may cause hearing loss and recurrent otorrhoea. Prognosis depends on size, aetiology and infection. Surgical treatment may be considered in cases with persistent symptoms.

Referral and management patterns for paediatric otorrhoea across primary and secondary care: a multicentre retrospective cohort study.

AIM: To determine the frequency and nature of referrals for children with acute or chronic otorrhoea from primary care to secondary care ENT services in the UK. BACKGROUND: Middle ear infections in children are common; if the ear drum bursts discharge leaks out (otorrhoea). This causes hearing loss during a critical developmental period. Managing these children in an appropriate time frame to prevent disease repercussions is vital. There is currently no evidence demonstrating referral patterns and management strategies across primary and secondary care services. METHOD: Children with otorrho

Split Hand/Foot Malformation with Acquired Middle Ear Cholesteatoma Secondary to Eustachian Tube Dysfunction: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Cholesteatoma is a rare otologic manifestation in patients with split-hand/foot malformation (SHFM), and previously reported cases have predominantly focused on congenital auricular malformations and external auditory canal atresia rather than acquired middle ear lesions. We herein describe the case of an 8-year-old girl with clinically diagnosed SHFM who presented with left otalgia and persistent purulent otorrhoea. Otoscopic examination revealed middle ear granulation tissue, and high-resolution temporal bone imaging confirmed the presence of middle ear cholesteatoma complicated by tympanic-

Primary glomangioma of the external auditory canal with extension to the middle ear and mastoid.

Glomangioma (true glomus tumour) is a benign perivascular neoplasm that rarely arises in the head or neck. A man in his 70s presented with long-standing, unilateral, serous otorrhoea, progressive hearing loss and intermittent tinnitus. Otoscopy revealed a soft-tissue mass completely occluding the external auditory canal. Contrast-enhanced CT demonstrated an enhancing lesion filling the external auditory canal with extension into the middle ear, attic, mastoid antrum and tympanic opening of the Eustachian tube without bony erosion. The patient underwent canal-wall-down mastoidectomy with gross

Mastoid cortex osteoma associated with middle-ear and mastoid cholesteatoma: a case report.

Osteomas of the temporal bone are rare benign tumors that, in a small minority of cases, may give rise to secondary cholesteatoma. We report a case in which two independent pathological mechanisms appeared to coexist, resulting in a configuration not previously described in the literature. A 51-year-old woman presented with one year of right-sided otorrhoea and progressive mixed hearing loss unresponsive to antibiotic therapy. High-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) demonstrated a giant sessile osteoma arising from the anterior mastoid cortex with complete external auditory canal (EAC) obst

Association between stigma and treatment satisfaction in patients with type 2 diabetes: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: The new rexinoid bexarotene is a retinoid X receptor antagonist and immune response modifier. Although combinations of oral bexarotene and psoralen plus UVA (PUVA) have been tried in patients with all stages of mycosis fungoides (MF), the dosage of bexarotene used in these combination regimens has been variable. OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy and safety of low-dose oral bexarotene and PUVA in patients with relapsed or treatment-refractory MF following monotherapy with multiple agents including PUVA, narrow-band UVB, interferon-alpha, oral bexarotene, and topical corticosteroids

A Diagnostic Challenge of Facial Nerve Palsy and Hearing Loss With Bilateral Otomastoiditis in an Elderly Patient.

Facial nerve palsy in older adults is commonly idiopathic or viral in origin, but secondary otologic and neurological causes must be carefully excluded, particularly when associated with hearing loss. We report a diagnostically challenging case of a 79-year-old woman who presented with acute right lower motor neuron facial palsy and new-onset hearing impairment, without otalgia, rash, or otorrhoea. Examination confirmed severe right-sided facial weakness, and initial imaging with computed tomography (CT) of the head and temporal bones demonstrated bilateral mastoid and middle ear opacification

Current Perspectives on Bacterial and Viral Brood Diseases of Apis cerana indica in India: Prevalence, Diagnostics, and Management Strategies.

UNLABELLED: Primary CNS lymphoma (PCNSL) is a rare subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma with the worst outcomes amongst all extranodal lymphomas. There is a scarcity of data on real-world outcomes of primary CNS lymphoma (PCNSL) owing to the rarity of the disease. This study analyzed the demographic patterns, risk stratification, treatment regimens used, & outcomes of patients treated at Tata Memorial Center Mumbai, India. This is a retrospective analysis of newly diagnosed primary CNS lymphoma patients treated at our centre over seven years from January 2013 to December 2019. A total of 142 patien

Temporal bone Langerhans cell histiocytosis with uterine cervix involvement and cutaneous Erdheim-Chester disease.

With fewer than 40 documented cases, temporal bone Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is exceptionally rare in adults. We present a case of temporal bone and uterine cervix LCH in an adult with concurrent cutaneous Erdheim-Chester disease. A woman in her 50s presented with several months of unilateral right aural fullness, otalgia, otorrhoea and tinnitus, unresponsive to antibiotics and aural irrigation. CT of the temporal bone revealed right mastoid destruction, prompting further investigation. Histology obtained from mastoid exploration confirmed LCH. Initial management included radiotherap
