BACKGROUND: Interleukin (IL)-6 has emerged as a promising target for cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention. Better understanding IL-6's contribution to CVD events in community-based, diverse cohorts and in clinically relevant subgroups will provide critical context about IL-6 inhibition for CVD prevention.
OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to evaluate the association of circulating IL-6 concentrations with incident cardiovascular events and mortality using pooled data from large multiethnic prospective cohorts.
METHODS: The authors harmonized individual-level participant data from 14 c

Hepatic vein catheterization (HVC) in man was first performed 80 years ago in the wake of right-sided heart catheterization. Several new methods, recognitions and concepts followed, especially the indirect Fick-method for determination of splanchnic blood flow. Five years passed before pressure measurements were performed and routine HVCs were done in liver patients. Later came splanchnic kinetics of test substances, dyes, metabolites, hormones and bioactive material and counter current wedged and balloon occlusion pressure. HVC has been a prerequisite for our understanding of the pathogenesis

BACKGROUND: Cardiac surgery using cardiopulmonary bypass uses controlled hypoperfusion which leads to relative organ damage. Acute kidney injury is the most frequent and most important organ failure, in particular in patients with chronic kidney disease. To date, there are no approved drug treatments that could effectively prevent acute kidney injury. SP16, an agonist of the low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 1, has been shown to exert both kidney- and cardioprotective effects in preclinical trials. Early clinical use of SP16 in phase I trials was safe. Administration of SP16 had

BACKGROUND: Complement dysregulation is a key mechanism underlying atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome and complement-mediated thrombotic microangiopathy in kidney transplantation, and is associated with post-transplant recurrence, graft dysfunction, and graft loss. Although Western cohort data are well established, integrated transplant outcome data combining genetic analysis, anti-factor H (AFH) antibody profiling, and individualized therapy from Indian and other South Asian populations remain limited, despite a distinct biologic profile in this region.
AIM: To evaluate clinical characterist

OBJECTIVE: Data on the characteristics and outcomes of patients with hematologic cancers undergoing cardiovascular (CV) admissions in real-world settings are limited.
METHODS: This study used data from the National Inpatient Sample (2016-2020), including all CV admissions. Patients were stratified based on the presence of hematologic cancers and their subtypes. The primary outcome was the cause of CV admission, and the secondary outcome was all-cause mortality. Descriptive statistics and multivariable logistic regression (adjusted odds ratios [aOR]) were used to compare outcomes across groups

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The optimal therapy for patients with atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis (ARAS) remains unresolved. This study compared the efficacy of renal fractional flow reserve (FFR)-guided revascularization and traditional angiography-guided revascularization.
METHODS: In total, 101 patients with ARAS and hypertension were randomly assigned to either the FFR-guided or angiography-guided group (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT05732077). Stenting was performed in the angiography-guided group regardless of FFR, whereas stenting was only performed in the FFR-guided group for patie

We report two adult patients who had rare systemic artery lesions with a history of Kawasaki disease, with a review of the literature. A 39-year-old male with Kawasaki disease at the age of 2 months underwent coronary artery bypass grafting to the right coronary artery and left anterior descending artery because of coronary artery stenoses. In the screening by thoracic-abdominal CT before the operation, calcification of the distal abdominal aorta was detected, and an abdominal aortic aneurysm with stenosis was diagnosed. He had been asymptomatic, and there were no differences in his extremitie

Anlotinib is a multi-target tyrosine kinase inhibitor that has been approved in China as a third-line treatment for advanced non-small cell lung cancer. It exerts anti-tumor effects by inhibiting tumor growth and tumor angiogenesis, and its toxicity also arises from this mechanism. Anlotinib can damage vascular endothelium, thereby inducing cardiovascular toxicity, which leads to hypertension, hyperlipidemia, accelerated atherosclerosis, and the initiation of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, ultimately resulting in life-threatening cardiovascular events. To the best of our knowledge, th

BACKGROUND: Immunoglobulin A vasculitis (IgAV) is the most common cause of vasculitis among children. However, it is a very rare cause of large artery vasculitis. The histopathology of immunoglobulin A vasculitis typically involves IgA deposits in small vessels of the dermis, joints, kidneys, and gastrointestinal tract. These deposits induce an inflammatory response, activating the complement system, which explains the variety of symptoms and signs.

Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) can develop in the setting of severe hypertension and may present with seizures and altered consciousness. We report the case of an 81-year-old woman who presented with impaired consciousness and generalized seizures during a hypertensive crisis. Brain magnetic resonance imaging revealed bilateral parieto-occipital subcortical hyperintensities. Diagnostic imaging revealed severe proximal stenosis of the right renal artery, complete occlusion of the left renal artery, and marked atrophy of the left kidney, suggesting renovascular hypertension

Renovascular hypertension is the most common cause of secondary hypertension and occurs in 0.5% to 5% of individuals with hypertension. This is more common in individuals who have difficulty controlling their pressure or elderly patients with end-stage kidney disease. An evaluation for renovascular hypertension is indicated if there is a high level of clinical suspicion. The primary imaging modalities for assessing renovascular hypertension are ultrasound, CT, and MRI, and these options can vary depending on the patient's current renal status. Although ultrasound is beneficial since it uses no

OBJECTIVE: Moyamoya arteriopathy and middle aortic syndrome (MAS) are each rare, often progressive vascular diseases; their comorbid intersection increases their complexity because of the independent and contradictory demands on blood pressure. The management of pediatric patients with these comorbid conditions requires multidisciplinary consultation given the high risk involved. In the current study, the authors aim to describe the clinical and surgical history of pediatric patients with comorbid moyamoya arteriopathy and MAS and describe a multidisciplinary approach to care for these patient

BACKGROUND: Regulatory T cells (Tregs) play a protective role in cardiovascular diseases, but the redox-regulated mechanisms governing their survival remain unclear. Stromal interaction molecule 1 (STIM1), a key calcium sensor, is implicated in oxidative stress and T cell apoptosis. This study investigates how Treg-specific deletion of STIM1 modulates redox signaling and mitigates renovascular hypertension and associated cardiovascular complications.
METHODS: STIM1 was selectively deleted in Tregs using a Cre-loxP approach. Mice were subjected to 2-kidney-1-clip (2K1C) surgery to induce renov

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This narrative review aims to summarize what is currently understood about Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF-1) and renovascular hypertension (RVH) in children, including clinical presentation and diagnosis, epidemiology, genetics, and management considerations including advances in treatment modalities. RECENT FINDINGS: Most of what is currently understood about NF-1 and arterial dysplasia leading to RVH relies on the inclusion of patients with NF-1 in single-institution reports. The management of pediatric RVH often requires multi-modal therapies inclusive of anti-hypertensive

INTRODUCTION: Renal artery stenosis is one of the severe secondary hypertension (HTN) causes in children and may lead to hypertension-mediated organ damage (HMOD), including left ventricle hypertrophy (LVH).
CASE REPORT/TREATMENT: We describe a case of a 4-year-old boy with severe renovascular HTN and LVH during infancy. Genetic testing revealed variant of unknown significance in SMAD3, a gene linked to Loeys-Dietz syndrome. The patient was treated with intensive pharmacotherapy and percutaneous intravascular intervention.
CONCLUSIONS: Early onset of HTN and HMOD should prompt consideration

Percutaneous transluminal renal angioplasty (PTRA) is a treatment for renovascular hypertension due to renal artery stenosis. However, postoperative complications in stent re-stenosis/occlusion may occur frequently. A 60-year-old male patient presented to our hospital with uncontrolled hypertension and a deterioration of renal function. He had undergone an initial renal stenting 10 years earlier, followed by repeat PTRAs during follow-up for in-stent restenosis. The left renal stent was found to be completely occluded, while the right renal stent was found to be 75% stenosed. We performed an a
