Clinical Evaluation of Neonatal Arrhythmias: Experience from a Specialized Pediatric Cardiac Center.

Neonatal arrhythmias, though relatively uncommon, can range from benign self-limiting conditions to life-threatening disorders requiring intensive management. Data on their clinical spectrum, management, and outcomes remain limited. This study aimed to evaluate the types, frequency, clinical characteristics, treatment strategies, and prognosis of neonatal arrhythmias in a tertiary pediatric cardiac center. We retrospectively reviewed neonates diagnosed with arrhythmia within the first 28 days of life at Basaksehir Cam and Sakura City Hospital between 1 January 2021 and 1 May 2025. Demographic

Impact of Cardiac Arrhythmias on Acute Maternal Cardiovascular Outcomes in Pregnancy: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Cardiac arrhythmias are prevalent complications in pregnancy, yet their precise association with acute maternal cardiovascular morbidity and mortality remains unclear due to heterogeneous evidence. This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the impact of maternal arrhythmias on acute cardiovascular outcomes. We searched Medline, Scopus, and Cochrane databases for observational studies comparing pregnant women with arrhythmias to those without. Random-effects meta-analyses were used to calculate pooled risk ratios (RR) for maternal mortality and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE

Real-world disproportionality analysis of trabectedin using the United States food and drug administration adverse event reporting system.

Trabectedin has been approved for treating adult patients with unresectable or metastatic liposarcoma or leiomyosarcoma who have previously received anthracycline. However, the long-term safety of trabectedin in a large-sample population remains unknown. We used a real-world pharmacovigilance database to assess adverse events (AEs) related to trabectedin. A disproportionality analysis was performed to evaluate the relationship between trabectedin and AEs. Data between January 2015 and March 2024 were collected from the United States Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System (

The impact of sodium glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors on ventricular arrhythmia in patients with implantable cardioverter-defibrillators: a meta analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors improve outcomes in heart failure (HF), but their effect on arrhythmias is less clear. Patients with implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) are a high risk population for ventricular arrhythmias. However, the effects of SGLT2 inhibitors on ventricular arrhythmias remains a source of debate. METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane databases from inception to August 19, 2025, for studies evaluating SGLT2 inhibitors and arrhythmic/cardiovascular outcomes. Pooled mean differences (MD) and risk ratios

[Emergency pharmacotherapy in rhythmology].

Acute cardiac arrhythmias are among the most common and prognostically relevant emergency situations in clinical cardiac electrophysiology. They range from bradycardia and supraventricular tachycardia to atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter to potentially life-threatening ventricular tachyarrhythmias and electrical storm. In these situations, rapid, structured and guideline-based pharmacotherapy is essential to prevent hemodynamic instability and mortality. The selection of appropriate emergency medication depends primarily on the underlying arrhythmia, the hemodynamic situation and individua

Experience with patients presenting with the clinical features of Holt-Oram syndrome: a single center retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: Holt-Oram syndrome, also known as atrio-digital syndrome, is a rare autosomal dominant genetic disorder primarily characterized by upper limb malformations and congenital heart defects, associated with mutations in the TBX5 gene. Diagnosis is typically based on clinical presentation, and the prognosis for affected individuals is closely related to the severity of cardiac involvement. Our study aims to highlight some key features of Holt-Oram syndrome to improve the level of clinical diagnosis. METHODS: We collected 11 patients with clinical features strongly suggestive of Holt-Ora

Unexpected complication following total thyroidectomy: A case report and brief review of the literature.

Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) involves a group of supraventricular tachyarrhythmiasfast heart rhythms originating above the ventricles. While SVT is commonly associated with hyperthyroidism, its occurrence in hypothyroidism is rare. The present case report describes a case of SVT occurring in the setting of post-thyroidectomy hypothyroidism. A 50-year-old female patient with a history of total thyroidectomy presented with palpitations and chest tightness. A 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) demonstrated atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia (AVNRT) with a heart rate of 200 bpm. A lab

Reversible Cardiomyopathy Induced by Adrenal Insufficiency: A Case Report.

Adrenal insufficiency, though rare, can cause serious cardiovascular complications such as reversible cardiomyopathy. We present the case of a 56-year-old woman admitted to the intensive care unit with bradycardia, hypotension, and hypoglycemia, followed by hemodynamic instability and subsequent development of supraventricular tachycardia requiring stabilization. Endocrine assessment performed after stabilization demonstrated panhypopituitarism with radiological evidence of an empty sella, central hypothyroidism, and biochemical findings consistent with central adrenal insufficiency, confirmed

Phase-Specific Changes in Vital Signs and Electrocardiogram Findings During Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in Hemodynamically Stable Patients: A Prospective Observational Study.

Background/Objectives: Physiological changes during hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) are not well characterized, particularly in non-emergent patients receiving HBOT as part of a repeated or maintenance treatment course, in whom understanding physiological responses during individual sessions is important for clinical monitoring. This study evaluated changes in vital signs and electrocardiographic (ECG) findings across the pre-compression, compression, maintenance, decompression, and post-treatment phases and evaluated clinical symptoms. Methods: This prospective observational study enrolled 5

Severe Hypoglycemia-Induced Seizure in a Four-Year-Old Following Initiation of Nadolol for Supraventricular Tachycardia.

Severe hypoglycemia is a rare but potentially life-threatening complication of non-selective beta-blockers in children. We report a four-year-old boy who developed a prolonged generalized tonic-clonic seizure shortly after initiation of nadolol for supraventricular tachycardia. The bedside random blood glucose was 0.9 mmol/L. He was promptly treated with intramuscular glucagon and intravenous dextrose, resulting in stabilization. History included refractory supraventricular tachycardia previously managed with esmolol and propranolol. Nadolol had been started the evening prior to the seizure. L

Ablation of Intra-Atrial Re-Entrant Tachycardia in an Adult With Double-Inlet Ventricle Using Pulsed-Field Ablation.

BACKGROUND: Supraventricular tachycardia is common in patients with adult congenital heart disease and carries a high morbidity. Ablation of these arrhythmias is an effective treatment strategy, but difficulty accessing the cardiac chambers, variations in electroanatomical circuits, and concerns of damaging the surrounding structures can pose procedural challenges. CASE SUMMARY: A 45-year-old man with complex congenital heart disease and intra-atrial re-entrant tachycardia initially underwent ablation with radiofrequency energy but experienced clinical recurrence. He presented for a second pr

Dexmedetomidine on supraventricular tachycardia in critical illness: a time-dependent propensity score matching study.

BACKGROUND: Supraventricular tachycardia affects many critically ill patients. Dexmedetomidine, a commonly used sedative, has sympatholytic and vagotonic effects that may alter atrioventricular nodal conduction and contribute to SVT. We aim to determine the association between dexmedetomidine exposure and clinically significant supraventricular tachycardia in a heterogeneous cohort of mechanically ventilated, critically ill adults. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included critically ill patients from 11 hospitals admitted between July 2018 and October 2022, who were intubated within 4

Prenatal echocardiographic diagnosis and outcomes of fetal sustained supraventricular tachycardia: a ten-year single-center experience.

Fetal echocardiography plays a pivotal role in the diagnosis and management of fetal arrhythmias, allowing evaluation of the electrophysiological mechanism and guiding appropriate medical therapy. Herein, we describe our ten-year experience as a tertiary referral center in Southern Italy in the diagnosis and management of fetal sustained supraventricular tachycardia. Thirty-two consecutive fetuses were included: 16 fetuses with atrioventricular reentrant tachycardia, 7 fetuses with ectopic atrial tachycardia, 8 fetuses with atrial flutter, and 1 fetus with permanent junctional reciprocating ta

Cardiac Rhythm and Conduction Abnormalities in Aircrew.

INTRODUCTION: Cardiac rhythm and conduction abnormalities are common findings in aircrew and are a frequent cause of a loss of flying privileges. Given the great variety of electrophysiological disorders, risk assessment is challenging for the aviation medical examiner. For aeromedical assessment, important aspects of an electrophysiological evaluation are the presence or absence of symptoms and prognosis of the arrhythmia. In young fit people with increased vagal tone, some abnormal electrocardiogram findings are acceptable and do not require further investigation. CASE SERIES: This article
