A Case of Primary Intraosseous Squamous Cell Carcinoma Arising in Dentigerous Cyst of Mandible.

OBJECTIVE: Selective inhibitors of cyclo-oxygenase-2 (COX-2) appear to be safer than conventional NSAIDs on the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Amtolmetin guacyl (AMG), a NSAID that inhibits both COX-1 and COX-2, has an anti-inflammatory effect comparable to that of traditional NSAIDs, with a better GI safety profile. The primary end-point of this study was to evaluate the gastrointestinal safety of amtolmetin guacyl in comparison with celecoxib in patients affected with rheumatoid arthritis. The assessment of efficacy was the secondary end-point. METHODS: This study was a 24-week, randomized, p

Single versus multiple and incidental versus symptomatic subsegmental pulmonary embolism: clinical characteristics and outcome.

It remains unexplored if the clinical picture and outcome of subsegmental pulmonary embolism (SSPE) differ between single versus multiple, and incidental versus symptomatic embolism. Consecutive patients anticoagulated for SSPE at the Mayo Thrombophilia Clinic (03/01/2013-12/31/2020) were followed forward to assess venous thromboembolism (VTE) recurrence, mortality, major bleeding, and clinically relevant non-major bleeding (CRNMB); expressed as a rate per 100 person-years. Among 3878 VTE patients, 1541 had pulmonary embolism including 224 (14.6%) with SSPE either single (n = 139) or multiple

Measles.

Measles is a highly contagious, potentially fatal, but vaccine-preventable disease caused by measles virus. Symptoms include fever, maculopapular rash, and at least one of cough, coryza, or conjunctivitis, although vaccinated individuals can have milder or even no symptoms. Laboratory diagnosis relies largely on the detection of specific IgM antibodies in serum, dried blood spots, or oral fluid, or the detection of viral RNA in throat or nasopharyngeal swabs, urine, or oral fluid. Complications can affect many organs and often include otitis media, laryngotracheobronchitis, pneumonia, stomatit

Spectrum of Movement Disorders Among Children With Subacute Sclerosing Panencephalitis: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background: Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis is a progressive devastating condition due to persistence of mutant measles virus, affecting children and adolescents, characterised by myoclonus, seizures, and neuropsychiatric issues. Movement disorders apart from myoclonus are reportedly uncommon. We aimed to describe frequency and proportion of movement disorders among children with subacute sclerosing panencephalitis, hypothesizing that these occur more frequently than previously reported. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we enrolled children with subacute sclerosing panencephalitis b

Clinical Profile and Diffusion Tensor Imaging in Patients of Subacute Sclerosing Pan Encephalitis: A Prospective Follow-up Study from Eastern Part of India.

BACKGROUND: Subacute Sclerosing Pan Encephalitis (SSPE) may present with atypical clinical features and lead to diagnostic dilemma. Conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may be normal in early stage of SSPE. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this work was to study the demography, clinical profile including atypical features of SSPE patients, and the utility of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) as an adjunctive diagnostic tool to the anti-measles antibody and conventional MRI. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Consecutive 25 patients of SSPE were included. Clinical details were recorded at baseline and 6 months

Subacute Sclerosing Panencephalitis: Restricted Diffusion and Clinical Evolution.

BACKGROUND: Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) is a rare entity characterized by a protracted course and progressive neurological deterioration. OBJECTIVE: We present patterns of diffusion restriction in eight cases of SSPE, a seldom described imaging attribute. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on the clinical and neuroimaging data obtained from records of patients with proven SSPE. Patients whose magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed evidence of diffusion restriction were included in the analysis. MRI was performed on 3 T and 1.5-T clinical MR systems. Imaging chara

Independent distribution between tauopathy secondary to subacute sclerotic panencephalitis and measles virus: An immunohistochemical analysis in autopsy cases including cases treated with aggressive antiviral therapies.

Subacute sclerotic panencephalitis (SSPE) is a refractory neurological disorder after exposure to measles virus. Recently, SSPE cases have been treated with antiviral therapies, but data on the efficacy are inconclusive. Abnormal tau accumulation has been reported in the brain tissue of SSPE cases, but there are few reports in which this is amply discussed. Five autopsied cases diagnosed as definite SSPE were included in this study. The subject age or disease duration ranged from 7.6 to 40.9 years old or from 0.5 to 20.8 years, respectively. Cases 3 and 4 had been treated with antiviral therap

Macular Necrotizing Retinitis as a Presenting Feature of Atypical Fulminant SSPE: A Case Report.

Purpose: To report ocular findings in a case of atypical fulminant SSPECase report: A 20-year-old male who came with macular necrotising retinitis in both his eyes in absence of any neurological feature. Within a week the patient developed dystonic posturing and seizures. CSF examination revealed raised measles antibody titres and EEG was suggestive of SSPE. The patient succumbed to the disease within 35 days of presentation. Conclusion: SSPE can rarely have a rapidly progressive downhill course without typical neurological features and ophthalmic features which appear to be more consistent may

PLOSL: Population learning followed by one shot learning pulmonary image registration using tissue volume preserving and vesselness constraints.

This paper presents the Population Learning followed by One Shot Learning (PLOSL) pulmonary image registration method. PLOSL is a fast unsupervised learning-based framework for 3D-CT pulmonary image registration algorithm based on combining population learning (PL) and one-shot learning (OSL). The PLOSL image registration has the advantages of the PL and OSL approaches while reducing their respective drawbacks. The advantages of PLOSL include improved performance over PL, substantially reducing OSL training time and reducing the likelihood of OSL getting stuck in local minima. PLOSL pulmonary

Subacute Sclerosing Panencephalitis in Children: The Archetype of Non-Vaccination.

Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) is a late complication of measles virus infection that occurs in previously healthy children. This disease has no specific cure and is associated with a high degree of disability and mortality. In recent years, there has been an increase in its incidence in relation to a reduction in vaccination adherence, accentuated by the COVID-19 pandemic. In this article, we take stock of the current evidence on SSPE and report our personal clinical experience. We emphasise that, to date, the only effective protection strategy against this disease is vaccination

Case Report: Focal Myoclonus with a Striatal Lesion as a Presentation of Subacute Sclerosing Panencephalitis.

Adult-onset subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) is rare, and focal myoclonus as a presenting feature poses a diagnostic dilemma. We report an adult SSPE patient with unusual clinical and radiological features. A 20-year-old girl had jerky neck movement 9 months earlier, which progressed to left hemimyoclonus in 2 months and generalized frequent myoclonus and fall at 4 months. By 6 months, she was bedbound. On examination, her Mini-Mental State Examination score was 10, and patchy retinitis was observed around the macula. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed corpus striatal involvement an

Dynamic insights into the effects of nonsynonymous polymorphisms (nsSNPs) on loss of TREM2 function.

Single nucleotide variations in Triggering Receptor Expressed on Myeloid Cells 2 (TREM2) are associated with many neurodegenerative diseases, including Nasu-Hakola disease (NHD), frontotemporal dementia (FTD), and late-onset Alzheimer's disease because they disrupt ligand binding to the extracellular domain of TREM2. However, the effects of nonsynonymous single nucleotide polymorphisms (nsSNPs) in TREM2 on disease progression remain unknown. In this study, we identified several high-risk nsSNPs in the TREM2 gene using various deleterious SNP predicting algorithms and analyzed their destabilizi

Upregulation of viral RNA polymerase activity promotes adaptation of SSPE virus to neuronal cells.

Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) is a rare progressive neurodegenerative disease caused by measles virus variants (SSPE viruses) that results in eventual death. Amino acid substitution(s) in the viral fusion (F) protein are key for viral propagation in the brain in a cell-to-cell manner, a specific trait of SSPE viruses, leading to neuropathogenicity. In this study, we passaged an SSPE virus in cultured human neuronal cells and isolated an adapted virus that propagated more efficiently in neuronal cells and exhibited increased cell-to-cell fusion. Contrary to our expectation, the vir

The Primary Microglial Leukodystrophies: A Review.

Primary microglial leukodystrophy or leukoencephalopathy are disorders in which a genetic defect linked to microglia causes cerebral white matter damage. Pigmented orthochromatic leukodystrophy, adult-onset orthochromatic leukodystrophy associated with pigmented macrophages, hereditary diffuse leukoencephalopathy with (axonal) spheroids, and adult-onset leukoencephalopathy with axonal spheroids and pigmented glia (ALSP) are different terms apparently used to designate the same disease. However, ALSP linked to dominantly inherited mutations in CSF1R (colony stimulating factor receptor 1) cause
