Robert's Uterus-Types, Diagnosis, and Management Options: Case Series and Review of Literature.

BACKGROUND: Wet cupping (hijama) is a small, deliberately produced tissue injury: negative pressure, superficial scarification, nociceptive input, and bloodletting occur in a defined sequence. Clinical studies have explored it in pain, musculoskeletal, inflammatory, metabolic, respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological conditions, yet the biological observations are often reported one marker or one outcome at a time. Here we look at the procedure as a possible controlled physiological stressor, asking whether these scattered observations might belong to a larger, connected response involvin

Hybrid endovascular treatment for complicated aortic dissection concomitant with true lumen obliteration: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) has been widely introduced. However, unestablished transfemoral approach due to true lumen obliteration disables endovascular option. CASE SUMMARY: A 74-year-old male with a history of 15-year-ago type B aortic dissection presented with chronic bilateral lower extremity claudication. CT angiography revealed that a large entry tear was located at distal to the left subclavian artery. The thoracic aneurysmal degeneration progressed and eventually required repair. True lumen of infrarenal aorta to bilateral common iliac arteries was totally

Predicting adverse events after thoracic endovascular aortic repair for patients with type B aortic dissection.

The potential of adverse events (AEs) after thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) in patients with type B aortic dissection (TBAD) has been reported. To avoid the occurrence of AEs, it is important to recognize high-risk population for prevention in advance. The data of 261 patients with TBAD who received TEVAR between June 2017 and June 2021 at our medical center were retrospectively reviewed. After the implementation of exclusion criteria, 172 patients were finally included, and after 2.8 years (range from 1 day to 5.8 years) of follow up, they were divided into AEs (n = 41) and non-AE

Early results of transcatheter electrosurgical aortic septotomy for endovascular repair of chronic dissecting aortoiliac aneurysms.

OBJECTIVE: Endovascular repair of chronic dissecting aortoiliac aneurysms is challenging given the rigid septum, compressed true lumen (TL), and target vessels frequently originating in the false lumen. We have used transcatheter electrosurgical aortic septotomy (TEAS) before stent graft implantation under intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and fusion guidance. The purpose of this study is to assess the outcomes of TEAS during complex endovascular repair of dissecting aneurysms. METHODS: From 2021 to 2023, 17 patients underwent TEAS. The primary end point was technical success, with secondary en

Non-coronary arterial outcomes in people with type 1 diabetes mellitus: a Swedish retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Observational studies on long-term trends, risk factor association and importance are scarce for type 1 diabetes mellitus and peripheral arterial outcomes. We set out to investigate trends in non-coronary complications and their relationships with cardiovascular risk factors in persons with type 1 diabetes mellitus compared to matched controls. METHODS: 34,263 persons with type 1 diabetes mellitus from the Swedish National Diabetes Register and 164,063 matched controls were included. Incidence rates of extracranial large artery disease, aortic aneurysm, aortic dissection, lower ex

Non-coronary peripheral arterial complications in people with type 2 diabetes: a Swedish retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Few studies have explored long-term trends and risk factors for peripheral arterial complications in type 2 diabetes compared to the general population. Our research focuses on identifying optimal risk factors, their significance, risk associated with multifactorial risk factor control, and trends for these complications in diabetic patients versus general controls. METHODS: This study included persons with type 2 diabetes mellitus entered into the Swedish National Diabetes Register 2001-2019 and controls matched for age-, sex- and county of residence. Outcomes comprised of extrac

Aortic disease and peripheral artery disease.

The Annual Report on Cardiovascular Health and Diseases in China (2022) intricate landscape of car-diovascular health in China. In connection with the previous section, this 10th section of the report offers a comprehensive analysis of aortic disease and peripheral artery disease. Aortic dissection is a critical disease, with a higher incidence in men than in women. The main risk factors include hypertension, gene mutations, and so on. Recent studies suggest that young patients with aortic dissection have a higher body mass index, and there is a significant correlation between low ambient tempe

[Thoracoabdominal Aneurysm in a Patient with an Axillo-bifemoral Bypass].

We report an extremely rare case of thoracoabdominal replacement after left axillo-bifemoral artery bypass surgery. The patient was a 33-year-old man who had undergone left axillo-bifemoral artery bypass surgery after total arch replacement due to lower extremity ischemia by stenosis of the elephant trunk graft 10 years previously. He was admitted to the emergency department with back pain. Computed tomography (CT) revealed an acute aortic re-dissection and a thoracoabdominal aneurysm. Due to gradual increase of the size of aneurysm, thoracoabdominal replacement was performed. The fourth inter

Right-sided Aortic Arch with Aberrant Left Subclavian Artery arising from Kommerell's Diverticulum: A case report.

Right-sided aortic arch, first documented by Fioratti and Aglietti in 1763, is a rare variant of the thoracic vascular anatomy present in about 0.1% of the adult population. In half of these cases the left subclavian artery is also aberrant. The aberrant left subclavian artery usually originates from a conical dilatation near its origin from the aorta also known as "Kommerell's diverticulum." Fewer than 80 of these cases have been reported in the literature as far as our web search is concerned. It is usually asymptomatic and diagnosed incidentally during adulthood. We are presenting a 56 year

Compact Arterial Monitoring Device Use in Resuscitative Endovascular Balloon Occlusion of the Aorta (REBOA): A Simple Validation Study in Swine.

Introduction Hemorrhage is the leading cause of preventable death in trauma in both the military and civilian settings worldwide. Medical studies from Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) informed change in military prehospital medicine by influencing widespread tourniquet distribution and training on their use to stop life-threatening extremity hemorrhage. In the military setting, there has been a significant reduction in preventable death due to extremity exsanguination since the widespread implementation of tourniquets within the Department of Defense. However,

Feasibility and Safety of Endovascular Interventions via Percutaneous Access to the Axillary Artery.

BACKGROUND: Endovascular treatment of peripheral arterial disease requires safe and reliable arterial access. This study evaluates the feasibility and safety of percutaneous axillary artery access for endovascular therapy. A variety of anatomic and logistic obstacles can be overcome with upper extremity access. In this retrospective case review, we describe our experience with percutaneous trans-axillary access for lower extremity peripheral arterial disease intervention. METHODS: Medical records of all patients undergoing axillary artery percutaneous access from December 2021 to August 2024

Malperfusion, Malperfusion Syndrome, and Mesenteric Ischemia in Aortic Dissection.

Aortic malperfusion occurs in a significant percentage of patients with acute aortic dissection, and causes malperfusion syndrome, the clinical entity defined by end organ ischemia, in 10-33% of patients. Malperfusion syndrome can be rapidly lethal and can involve the coronary, cerebral, visceral, or lower extremity vessels. Depending on presentation, it may be appropriately and well treated with endovascular fenestration prior to definitive central aortic repair.

Femoral artery occlusion induced vasculopathy following herpes zoster: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Reactivation of the varicella zoster virus (VZV) results in herpes zoster (HZ), which is a painful unilateral rash with a typical dermatomal distribution. HZ may be followed by postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), vasculopathy, myelopathy, retinal necrosis, and cerebellitis. Vasculopathy can cause ischemic stroke, aneurysms, arterial dissection, transient ischemic attack, and rarely, peripheral arterial disease (PAD). The possible mechanism is that the VZV travels to the arteries through the sensory ganglia, leading to inflammation and pathological vascular remodeling, which result in vas
