[Clinical applications and future perspectives of ultra-widefield swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography in ophthalmology].

Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) is a noninvasive, depth-resolved imaging modality that visualizes ocular microvascular networks based on blood flow-related motion contrast, without exogenous contrast agents. Owing to its ability to provide high-resolution, layer-specific vascular information, OCTA has become an indispensable tool in both clinical practice and ophthalmic research. The advent of swept-source OCTA (SS-OCTA), characterized by longer imaging wavelengths and faster scanning speeds, has enabled wider fields of view and deeper tissue penetration. These technical advanc

The glymphatic-lymphatic axis: known pathways, open questions, and emerging roles in neurodegeneration.

The discovery of the glymphatic system and meningeal lymphatic vessels has transformed our understanding of brain fluid homeostasis and central-peripheral communication, highlighting the critical role of cerebrospinal fluid in brain clearance. While substantial progress has been made in defining the structural components and physiological regulators of brain clearance, major uncertainties remain regarding (1) how these systems interact as an integrated physiological network, (2) how they fail in disease, and (3) whether they can be therapeutically manipulated. In this review, we first summariz

LncRNA TAAL Regulates TIE1-Mediated Vascular Remodeling and Is Associated With Diabetic Retinopathy.

BACKGROUND: TIE1 is an endothelial receptor tyrosine kinase, which plays a crucial role in vascular development and remodeling, including in diseases such as diabetic retinopathy (DR). However, the molecular mechanisms and regulatory interactome governing TIE1 function remain largely unknown. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are increasingly recognized as key regulators of endothelial gene expression and vascular homeostasis, yet lncRNA regulators of TIE1 have not been characterized. This study was designed to identify lncRNA regulators of TIE1 and elucidate their functional roles in endothelial

MR Neurography of Fine-Caliber Nerves: Technical Considerations and Practical Applications.

MR neurography (MRN) is a powerful tool for evaluating peripheral nerve disorders, traditionally focused on larger nerves like the sciatic nerve, lumbosacral plexus, and brachial plexus. With advances in hardware and software and improved vascular signal suppression, MRN enables reliable assessment of fine-caliber nerves-defined as those with a diameter of up to 6 mm. The small size, variable anatomy, and proximity to vessels and soft-tissue lesions make imaging of such nerves particularly challenging at routine MRI. The authors focus on MRN of fine-caliber nerves throughout the body, offering

Robot-assisted wide-amplitude oscillatory photoacoustic scanning for three-dimensional human peripheral vascular imaging: A preliminary feasibility study.

Photoacoustic tomography (PAT) is a promising tool for non-invasive vascular imaging, yet conventional linear scanning suffers from "limited-view" artifacts and structural discontinuities due to restricted transducer acceptance angles. To overcome these physical bottlenecks, we propose a robot-assisted wide-amplitude oscillatory (WAO) scanning strategy. By integrating controlled lateral harmonic oscillations into axial linear trajectories via a 6-DoF robotic arm, this method achieves kinematic modulation to physically synthesize a dynamic aperture. This approach effectively captures high-frequ

Angiosome-directed revascularisation and the woundosome paradigm in chronic limb-threatening ischaemia: a narrative review.

OBJECTIVE: Revascularisation is central to limb salvage in chronic limb-threatening ischaemia (CLTI) and diabetic foot ulceration (DFU); however, the optimal method for selecting target vessels remains uncertain. The angiosome model has traditionally guided revascularisation planning, while the emerging woundosome concept emphasises wound-level perfusion, collateral circulation, microvascular function, wound severity and multidisciplinary care. This review evaluated whether current evidence supports angiosome-guided revascularisation alone or a more wound-centred approach. METHOD: A structure

Prevalence and Impact of Acute Myocardial Infarction in Hospitalized Patients With Peripheral Artery Disease: Analysis of the National Inpatient Sample.

The coexistence of peripheral artery disease (PAD) and acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is clinically important yet not well reported in inpatient settings. We conducted a retrospective cross-sectional study using the 2018-2020 National Inpatient Sample (NIS). Adult hospitalizations with a primary diagnosis of PAD were stratified by the presence of a secondary AMI diagnosis; multivariable logistic regression was used for binary outcomes and linear regression for continuous outcomes, adjusting for demographics, comorbidities, and hospital characteristics. Among 597 195 PAD hospitalizations, 10

Insights Into the Role of Platelet Factor 4 in Neurodegenerative Diseases.

BACKGROUND: As population aging accelerates worldwide, the prevalence and burden of neurodegenerative diseases (NDs) continue to rise, underscoring the urgent need to identify key molecular mechanisms driving disease progression and novel therapeutic targets. Chronic neuroinflammation is a hallmark of multiple NDs, including Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. Platelet factor 4 (PF4) is a chemokine primarily released by activated platelets and has traditionally been investigated for its roles in hemostasis, thrombosis, and peripheral inflammation. RESULTS: Growing evidence has implic

Primary erythromelalgia associated with an SCN9A variant can mimic systemic lupus erythematosus in skin manifestations: a case report.

Primary erythromelalgia (PEM) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder characterized by episodic erythema and burning pain of the extremities, typically triggered by exercise or fatigue. PEM usually begins in childhood and is caused by gain-of-function variants in SCN9A, which encodes the voltage-gated sodium channel Nav1.7. The disease concept of PEM, however, is largely unrecognized among rheumatologists. Here, we report a 20-year-old woman who had experienced recurrent burning pain and redness of the extremities since around age 10. She also exhibited livedo-like rash, leukopenia, and hypocomp
