BACKGROUND: Ureteroarterial fistula (UAF) is a rare but potentially life threatening disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the outcome of endovascular therapy for UAF treatment.
METHODS: This retrospective case series evaluates a single center experience of percutaneous stent graft (SG) angioplasty and/or coil embolization for UAF. Patient follow-up included technical and early clinical success, complications and revisional procedures. We also conducted a systematic review of the literature reporting on endovascular UAF management.
RESULTS: We identified 17 UAF in 16 patients (12 ma

The persistent sciatic artery is an uncommon disease, considered an axial congenital vascular malformation due to the lack of involution of the sciatic artery during embryonic development. It may be associated with abnormalities in the development of the iliac, common femoral and superficial femoral arteries. Patients may be asymptomatic, or they could present chronic pain, such as sciatic neuralgia, caused by nerve damage, since it is close to the abnormal persistent vessel, or due to ischemic pain, as a result of a thrombosis or embolism of an aneurysm, which could compromise the viability o

We report a case of a 31-year-oldman who presented to the hospital with extensive deep vein thrombosis (DVT) complicated by pulmonary embolism (PE) after a recent trauma and prolonged immobilization. He underwent contrast venography that revealed features of May-Thurner syndrome (MTS). He was managed with therapeutic anticoagulation, inferior vena cava filter placement, mechanical clot aspiration, catheter-directed thrombolytic therapy, and left common iliac vein stenting. MTS is a vascular condition caused by the compression of the left common iliac vein by an overlying right common iliac art

May-Thurner syndrome (MTS) consists of common iliac vein compression from an extrinsic source. Patients with MTS can present with a variety of symptoms, potentially making the diagnosis difficult. Classically, MTS will result in left iliac vein compression from the right iliac artery. In rare cases, it can be secondarily caused by compression from other anatomic structures in the pelvis. We present the case of a 43-year-old woman with MTS with iliofemoral deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism caused by a large uterine leiomyoma. Our findings underscore the need to consider various etiolo

INTRODUCTION: Congenital aneurysms of major arteries are very rare diagnoses and prognosis can be poor if treatment is not initiated rapidly. This is the presentation of two cases of infants with congenital iliac aneurysms who underwent treatment in the neonatal period. The report then proceeds with a literature review of paediatric iliac aneurysms.
REPORT: Case 1: A female neonate was diagnosed antenatally with right common iliac (CIA) and internal iliac (IIA) artery aneurysms. Embolisation on day of life (DOL) eight was impossible because of partial thrombosis. The infant was subsequently o

Despite the extensive use of lithotomy position in several plastic surgery procedures, most reports regarding the related incidence of complications are presented in the urologic, gynecologic, and anesthesiologic fields. We present the case of a 54-year-old male patient. polytrauma patient who underwent internal iliac artery embolization leading to extensive gluteal necrosis requiring: debridement, abdominoperineal resection and composite anterolateral thigh flap reconstruction with prolonged lithotomy position. The patient presented lower limb ischemia briefly after surgical theater. A comput

UNLABELLED: Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is one of the common causes of morbidity as well as mortality among pregnant women. Obstetric hemorrhage embolization (OHE)/uterine artery embolization (UAE) is the preferred treatment for PPH which has failed medical therapy. In cases of placental accreta spectrum (PAS), balloon catheter can be prophylactically placed in internal iliac arteries (IIAs) bilaterally before delivery to enable postpartum control of bleeding. An inferior vena cava (IVC) filter can be placed under fluoroscopy for a pregnant woman with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) for whom antico

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence of May-Thurner anatomy (MTA) in patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) and identify its predictors.
BACKGROUND: MTA is an anatomical variant characterized by compression of left common iliac vein by the overlying right iliac artery. Over time, this leads to venous intimal scarring, blood flow stasis, and the development of deep vein thrombosis (DVT). DVT is a known risk factor for the development of CTEPH. The prevalence of this anatomical variation in patients with CTEPH is unknown.

INTRODUCTION: Pregnancy is a physiologically hypercoagulable state and a coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection adds to this burden by accentuating the coagulopathy. We report two cases of severe peri-partum COVID infection leading to extremity gangrene secondary to a pro-thrombotic coagulopathy.
CASE ONE: A 37-year-old lady, day-2 postpartum, was brought with severe COVID infection & and respiratory failure. She developed progressive gangrene of the foot. A computed tomography (CT) angiogram confirmed the presence of thrombosis of the left external iliac & and common femoral artery. S

Partial priapism is a rare disorder in literature and generally described as a contusion or thrombosis of the cavernous body of the penis secondary to blunt trauma. Because of the rarity of disease, there is not much information about the treatment. Conservative management with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug is often applied treatment. Here, we presented a proximal partial priapism treated successfully with autologous clot embolisation secondary to pelvic trauma.

BACKGROUND: Venous stenting is a common treatment for chronic peripheral venous disease. The most frequent complications caused by this technique are stent misplacement and intracardiac or intravascular stent migration. In this publication, we will describe the first case of an intraspinal stent misplacement leading to lumbar nerve root compression.
CASE DESCRIPTION: Our patient was a 20-year-old woman with a bilateral pulmonary embolism caused by a right common iliac vein thrombosis and a severe compression of the left common iliac vein by the right common iliac artery (May-Thurner or Cocket

UNLABELLED: The annual incidence rates of venous thromboembolism are approximately 1 per 1,000 persons per year in adult population. Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) most frequently occurs in the setting of underlying illness, and anatomical abnormalities are rarely considered as an etiology for it. A well-described anatomical cause for DVT is "May-Thurner syndrome" (MTS), which occurs as a result of compression of the left common iliac vein by the overlying right common iliac artery. This syndrome most often affects young to middle-aged women. Pulmonary embolism (PE) occurs very rarely in these pat

May-Thurner syndrome (MTS) is a congenital vascular alteration that is part of a restricted category of very rare vascular syndromes that have in common the compression of an arterial or venous vessel. MTS, first described in 1957, is due to compression of the left common iliac vein against the lumbar spine by the adjacent common iliac artery. It can cause chronic thrombosis of the left lower limb and can give edema, pain, claudication, thrombophlebitis, and, in severe cases, pulmonary embolism. Color Doppler and duplex Doppler ultrasound allow us to easily locate the deep vein thrombosis, to

Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) has quickly outpaced open treatment of infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and iliac artery aneurysms, relegating most open AAA repair for either young patients with long life expectancy or patients with extreme anatomic constraints. Typically, open repair involves opening the aneurysm sac with suture ligation of back-bleeding vessels. However, in situations where an aortobifemoral repair is performed, proximal and distal ligation can be performed leaving behind a "remnant" aorta and iliac arteries. Usually, major palpable vessels are ligated and smal

Aneurysms of the external iliac artery are extremely rare. We present a case of a middle-aged male patient with calf claudication owing to peripheral arterial embolism on the basis of a thrombosed true aneurysm of the external iliac artery caused by cystic media necrosis. Vascular imaging established the diagnosis and we proceeded to removal of the aneurysm via open repair, with excellent surgical and clinical results.
