Super-selective Bulbar Artery Embolization with Micro Coils for Severe Urethral Bleeding After Transurethral Resection of the Prostate: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Urethral bleeding resulting from a urethral injury is usually easily controlled with conservative management (placement of a catheter and pressure). The case of uncontrolled urethral bleeding is rare, and only a small number of uncontrolled urethral bleeding case reports after urological procedures have been reported in the literature. CASE REPORT: Herein, we present an unusual case of a 67-year-old male with uncontrolled urethral bleeding after a transurethral resection of the prostate (TUR-P) for benign prostatic hyperplasia, who underwent a successfully, hyper-selective emboliz

Preserving the right gastric artery reduces early anastomotic stenosis after McKeown minimally invasive esophagectomy: a randomized controlled trial.

Cervical anastomotic stenosis remains a common complication following totally minimally invasive McKeown esophagectomy. The role of the right gastric artery in gastric conduit perfusion is debated, especially with narrow-tube reconstructions. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of RGA preservation versus ligation on anastomotic outcomes. In a single-center randomized controlled trial, 120 patients undergoing totally laparoscopic and thoracoscopic McKeown esophagectomy for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma were assigned to RGA preservation (n = 60) or ligation (n = 60). All procedures util

Association Between Extracranial Artery Stenosis and Cerebral Small-Vessel Disease in Patients with Ischemic Stroke.

OBJECTIVE: To review the relationship between extracranial artery stenosis (ECAS) severity and total cerebral small-vessel disease (CSVD) burden and evaluated 5-year mortality, disability, and stroke recurrence in ischemic stroke patients. Cerebral small-vessel disease and ECAS often share risk factors such as hypertension and atherosclerosis and coexist in ischemic stroke. Although ECAS affects large-artery disease, its impact on total CSVD burden on MRI and subsequent clinical outcomes is not well defined. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 348 patients older than 3

A Modified Technique for Converting Retrograde Femoral Artery Access to Antegrade Access With the Assistance of a Long Sheath.

BACKGROUND: Percutaneous femoral access serves as the cornerstone of endovascular therapy of lower extremity arterial disease. In complex cases, the arterial disease of lower extremity are involve in ipsilateral iliac artery pathology, which conventional treatment strategies typically require multiple punctures or staged procedures. AIMS: This study aimed to explore the bilateral lower extremity endovascular intervention of patients with coexisting ipsilateral iliac artery stenosis using the long sheath-assisted access conversion technique (LS-ACT) via a single puncture. METHODS: This is a r

Laparoscopic left hemicolectomy with inferior mesenteric vein sparing: a step-by-step surgical approach (with video).

Routine ligation of the inferior mesenteric vein (IMV) during laparoscopic left hemicolectomy is widely practiced but may predispose patients to venous congestion, ischemia, and anastomotic complications, especially in patients with a long remnant sigmoid colon. IMV preservation remains underutilized due to technical difficulty and the absence of standardized guidance. This video article presents a structured, step-by-step technique for laparoscopic left hemicolectomy with D3 lymphadenectomy and IMV preservation in a 64-year-old male with distal transverse colon adenocarcinoma. Key elements in

Risk factors and a prediction nomogram for intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis in patients with cancer-related cerebral infarction.

OBJECTIVE: To develop and validate a nomogram for predicting intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS) severity in patients with cancer-related cerebral infarction (CRCI). METHODS: This retrospective study included 520 patients with active cancer and acute large-artery infarction. Based on CT angiography (CTA), they were classified into three ICAS severity groups (no/minimal, mild, and moderate to severe stenosis). The cohort was randomly divided into training and internal validation sets (7:3). Ordinal logistic regression was used to identify independent predictors, which were then incorp

ABO Incompatible Deceased Donor Liver Transplants in Infants (Age < 1 Year): A Single-Center Experience.

BACKGROUND: The liver transplant waitlist mortality for infants (age < 1 year) is currently the highest, listed at 20 per 100 years of waiting time. ABO incompatible (ABOi) liver-transplantation is one of the strategies to increase transplantation rate in infants but utilized only in 5.6% of infants. METHODS: At our center, all children < 1 year are listed for ABOi liver transplants. If the anti-ABO titers are less than 1:8, no plasmapheresis was used. Thymoglobulin is used for induction. We analyzed the transplant outcomes of patients that received ABOi livers compared to ABOc livers. RESUL

Aberrant Right Subclavian Artery in Infants With Esophageal Atresia: A Single-Institution Study of Incidence and Outcomes.

INTRODUCTION: Esophageal atresia (EA) is associated with aortic arch anomalies, including an aberrant right subclavian artery (ARSA) in 3.4-12%. ARSA complicates EA repair due to proximity to the esophageal anastomosis and poses risks during subsequent interventions for strictures. This study characterizes management, complications, and outcomes of EA patients with ARSA. METHODS: Retrospective review (2012-2023) of EA patients with ARSA at a single institution. Data on diagnosis, management and complications were analyzed with descriptive statistics. RESULTS: Among 128 EA patients, 12 (9.4%)

Lower Extremity Access versus HeRO Graft: Choosing Dialysis Access in Patients with Central Venous Stenosis.

BACKGROUND: In patients with central venous stenosis, it is controversial whether an upper extremity Hemodialysis Reliable Outflow (HeRO) graft or lower extremity access is preferable. Furthermore, lower extremity grafts are contraindicated in patients with significant peripheral artery disease. The purpose of this study was to compare outcomes of HeRO grafts with lower extremity dialysis access in patients with central venous stenosis. METHODS: We performed a retrospective analysis of patients with central venous stenosis undergoing lower extremity dialysis access or HeRO graft placement at

Clinical and Radiological Findings in Endorectal Migration of a Metallic Ureteral Stent.

Hydronephrosis caused by malignant ureteral obstruction or radiotherapy-induced ureteral stenosis is a frequent complication in patients with cervical cancer. Effective management requires continuous urinary drainage, which can be achieved either internally through ureteral stent placement or externally via percutaneous nephrostomy. Among available devices, the AlliumTM fully covered nitinol mesh ureteral stent is designed to treat ureteral or urethral strictures while allowing safe and easy removal. However, serious complications have been reported, including uretero-enteric, uretero-arterial

Infrared thermography and dual-layer spectral CT for the detection of femoral vascular compromise: an experimental large animal study.

BACKGROUND: Rapid identification of vascular compromise remains a clinical challenge in the acute trauma setting. Conventional diagnostic tools such as CT angiography (CTA) and Doppler-ultrasound might provide decent anatomical and functional assessment. However, they are limited by ionizing radiation, contrast exposure or time requirements. Although not validated, infrared thermography (IRT) might offer a non-invasive alternative capable of detecting surface temperature asymmetries that may reflect underlying perfusion deficits. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of thermographic im

Canine Chylothorax Secondary to Esophageal Foreign Body and Stricture.

A 10 yr old female spayed golden retriever was presented to an emergency service for persistent regurgitation. The patient had a history of an aberrant right subclavian artery and a subsequent esophageal stricture with megaesophagus. A thoracic radiograph confirmed the presence of an esophageal foreign body. Point-of-care lung ultrasound confirmed the presence of pleural effusion which was sampled and consistent with chyle. The foreign body was removed endoscopically and the patient was discharged the next day. The patient developed aspiration pneumonia within 1 wk of discharge and was treated

Zadeh-based fuzzy analysis of carreau tri-hybrid nanofluid hemodynamics in a straight artery with irregular triangular stenosis.

Precise characterization of blood flow in stenosed arteries is crucial for advancing cardiovascular diagnostics and therapeutic interventions. In this study, blood is modeled as a Carreau non-Newtonian fluid flowing through a straight artery with irregular triangular stenosis, capturing realistic geometric complexity. To enhance thermal transport characteristics, three distinct nanoparticles iron oxide (Fe₃O₄), copper (Cu), and gold (Au) are incorporated into the base fluid. A physiologically consistent no-slip boundary condition is imposed along the arterial wall. To address inherent uncertai

Robotic Resection of Type 2 Klatskin's Tumor With Portal Vein Lateral Venorrhaphy and Dual Hepaticojejunostomy Biliary Reconstruction.

Perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (Klatskin tumor) remains one of the most technically challenging hepatopancreatobiliary malignancies because of its close association with the portal vein and hepatic artery within the hepatic hilum. Current operative management of Bismuth type I and II lesions remains controversial, particularly regarding the role of bile duct resection alone versus combined hepatectomy to achieve oncologically adequate R0 margins while minimizing operative morbidity. While traditionally managed through an open approach, robotic surgery has emerged as a minimally invasive option f
