Liposuction is one of the most frequently performed cosmetic surgeries worldwide for reshaping the body contour. Although liposuction is minimally invasive and relatively safe, it is a surgical procedure, and it carries the risk of major and minor complications. These complications vary from postoperative nausea to life-threatening events. Common complications include infection, abdominal wall injury, bowel herniation, bleeding, haematoma, seroma, and lymphoedema. Life-threatening complications such as necrotizing fasciitis, deep vein thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism have also been reported.

OBJECTIVES: Fabry disease is a rare X-linked metabolic disorder characterized by a deficiency in the enzyme alpha-galactosidase A. Both males and females can be affected. The main presenting symptom is pain in the extremities, whereas at a more advanced stage, the manifestations include hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, cardiac dysrhythmia, proteinuria, chronic kidney dysfunction, stroke, and hearing loss. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the effect of saphenous vein sparing during bilateral inguinal lymphadenectomy (BIL) for penile carcinoma patients.
METHODS: Between May 2011 and May 2013, 23 patients with penile carcinoma who underwent laparoscopic prophylactic BIL were included. All patients were randomized to receive the laparoscopic prophylactic inguinal lymphadenectomy with saphenous vein sparing on one limb and saphenous vein ligated on the other limb. Short-term and long-term complications were compared between the two groups.

BACKGROUND: Mycobacterium ulcerans (MU) produces mycolactone toxin when infected with a plasmid. Toxin is cytotoxic and immunosuppressive, causing extensive destruction of tissues, leading to large ulcers on exposed parts of the body. Spontaneous healing by secondary intention leads to contractures, subluxation of joints, disuse atrophy, distal lymphedema and other complications. The disease is endemic in some communities within the middle belt of Ghana.
