Combination of Supramicrosurgical Lymphatico-Venular Anastomosis (sLVA) and Lymph-Sparing Liposuction in Treating Cancer-Related Lymphedema: Rationale for a Regional One-Stage Approach.

Objective: Cancer-related lymphedema represents a potential complication of cancer treatment. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the combination of lymphatico-venular anastomosis and liposuction in the treatment of secondary lymphedema. Methods: We present a retrospective analysis of patients affected by cancer-related unilateral limb lymphedema. Inclusion criteria included previous neoplastic pathology with the consequent development of unilateral limb lymphedema, while the exclusion criteria included the presence of comorbidities and the persistence of cancer, as well

External auditory canal metastasis revealing bronchogenic carcinoma: A case report and literature review.

This report presents a rare case of bronchogenic adenocarcinoma with initial metastasis in the external auditory canal. The patient, a 64-year-old man with a history of bladder urothelial carcinoma, initially presented with a persistent right otitis externa. Otoscopic examination revealed a mass obstructing the right external auditory canal. The temporal bone computed tomography scan revealed a mass that completely obstructed the right external auditory canal and extended into the middle ear. A biopsy showed a poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma of bronchogenic origin, confirmed by positive i

[Recurrent Breast Cancer with Pulmonary Lymphangitis Carcinomatosis Case Responding to Trastuzumab Deruxtecan].

Pulmonary lymphangitis carcinomatosis is generally characterized by resistance to chemotherapy and is associated with a poor prognosis. Herein, we present a case of pulmonary lymphangitic carcinomatosis from recurrent breast cancer that responded well to trastuzumab deruxtecan(T-DXd). The patient was a 40-year-old woman with hormone receptor-positive, HER2-positive breast cancer. At the age of 31, she had undergone a left mastectomy with axillary lymph node dissection. She received adjuvant chemotherapy(5-fluorouracil-epirubicin-cyclophosphamide, docetaxel, and trastuzumab)followed by endocrin

Interstitial lung disease was suspected, but biopsy revealed pulmonary lymphangitis carcinomatosa.

INTRODUCTION: Pulmonary lymphangitis carcinomatosa is a rare and severe manifestation of metastatic disease that causes pulmonary symptoms and radiologic patterns similar to interstitial lung diseases. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 78-year-old woman who presented to our department with insidiously developed symptoms of fatigue, dry cough, and severe dyspnea for 3 months. Chest radiography showed bilateral interstitial changes. On suspicion of interstitial lung disease, bronchoscopy and transbronchial cryobiopsy were carried out. Surprisingly, histopathological investigation reveale

Thoracic lymphangitis as an immune-related adverse event: a case report.

The efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) has been widely recognized in several cancers and is now being used in the perioperative setting for lung cancer. We recently encountered an immune-related adverse event that has not been previously reported: thoracic lymphangitis, which occurred after postoperative ICI treatment for lung cancer. The patient complained of breathlessness and her condition rapidly progressed to hypoxia grade 3. Chest computed tomography revealed significant lymphostasis. With high-dose steroid treatment, the patient showed improvement. Therefore, as the frequency

Molecular characterisation of Histoplasma capsulatum sensu lato from Ethiopian horses reveals two distinct phylogenetic clades.

Epizootic lymphangitis (EL) is a highly prevalent and contagious infectious disease affecting horses in many parts of Ethiopia caused by Histoplasma capsulatum sensu lato ('var. farciminosum'). In this study, 12 suspected isolates of H. capsulatum sensu lato or yeasts unidentified by conventional biochemical tests isolated from Ethiopian horses with EL were characterised by internal transcribed spacer sequencing. Six of the 12 isolates were identified to be members of H. capsulatum sensu lato and the other six were Pichia kudriavzevii (synonym: Candida krusei) (n = 3), Trichosporon asahii (n =

Lymphovenous anastomosis and complex decongestive therapy for severe deformed lymphedema with recurrent infection: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Lower extremity lymphedema is a common complication following treatment for gynecological malignancies. Its incidence rate can reach up to 70%, affecting ~20 million people worldwide. However, specialized treatment centers are scarce, and there is a lack of consensus on treatment approaches. Furthermore, there are even fewer reports on the systematic and effective treatment of severe lymphedema with malformations. Effective management of this condition remains a significant challenge for clinicians. CASE SUMMARY: A 40-year-old woman developed bilateral leg swelling 6 years after r

An overview of various stages and morphology of Histoplasma capsulatum var. farciminosum in the horse.

This article describes the development of the pathogenic dimorphic fungus Histoplasma capsulatum var. farciminosum (HCF), which is the causative agent of Equine epizootic lymphangitis (EEL), from the mycelial form in the soil to the yeast form in the horse. In this study, the stages and morphology of HCF were identified through histopathological analysis and culture with various samples collected in Ethiopia from 15 horses showing clinical signs of EEL. In equids, especially cart horses in Ethiopia, poor-quality harnesses cause cutaneous wounds, which often attract flies facilitating the trans

Collision tumor of pulmonary adenocarcinoma and small lymphocytic lymphoma: A rare case of concurrent malignancies in the same lymph node.

BACKGROUND: Collision tumors, a rare and challenging diagnostic entity, are characterized by the simultaneous presence of two distinct histological neoplasms within the same anatomical site. The underlying mechanisms of collision tumors are not well understood, though various theories attempt to explain this phenomenon. CASE PRESENTATION: A 77-year-old Palestinian man, a heavy smoker with multiple comorbidities, presented with a productive cough and significant weight loss. Computed tomography (CT) scan with IV contrast revealed extensive pulmonary involvement, mediastinal lymphadenopathy, an

Lymphangiosis Carcinomatosa of the Liver and Extrahepatic Bile Duct Due to Gastric Cancer: A Case Report and Literature Review.

A 78-year-old man was diagnosed with advanced poorly differentiated gastric adenocarcinoma, presenting with jaundice and diffuse thickening of the extrahepatic bile duct. No obstructive biliary sites or liver masses were observed. The serum concentrations of proteins induced by the absence of vitamin K or antagonist-II were markedly high. Samples of the extrahepatic bile duct and liver were obtained by endoscopic examination. The patient was diagnosed with lymphangiosis carcinomatosa of the liver and extrahepatic bile duct but died 28 days after hospitalization. As the disease progresses rapid

Crescentic Glomerulonephritis in Association With Renal Cell Carcinoma: A Case Report.

Clear renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the most common primary renal tumor originating within the renal cortex. It is responsible for 75% to 85% of all primary renal neoplasms. Multiple risk factors are associated with the development of RCC, the most common being smoking. On some occasions, RCC has been linked to some autoimmune conditions, but data is limited. Especially, its association with glomerulonephritis (GN) is rare in literature and not fully understood. In this case report, we discuss a presentation of RCC associated with crescentic GN.

Admission chest CT scan of intensive care patients with interstitial lung disease: Unveiling its limited predictive value through visual and automated analyses in a retrospective study (ILDICTO).

BACKGROUND: Clinical course prediction of patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD) admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) for acute respiratory failure (ARF) can be challenging. This study aimed to characterize the prognostic value of admission chest CT-scan in this situation. METHODS: We retrospectively included ILD patients admitted to a French ICU for acute respiratory failure requiring oxygen. Patients with lymphangitis carcinomatosis and ANCA vasculitis were excluded. We analyzed every admission chest CT-scan using two different approaches: a visual analysis (grading the extent o
