Proliferation versus inflammation: Immunohistochemical profiling of feline chronic rhinitis and nasal lymphoma.

Lymphoma is the most common nasal cavity tumor in cats. While most recent research efforts have characterized neoplastic cell markers in feline alimentary lymphoma, only few reports are dedicated to immunohistological features of nasal lymphoid tumors beyond T- or B-cell phenotyping. In comparison, feline lymphoplasmacytic chronic rhinitis represents chronic, progressive lymphoplasmacytic inflammation, causing cyclical tissue damage and repair. Sixty-five cases of lymphoplasmacytic rhinitis and 15 cases of feline diffuse, large cell, immunoblastic nasal lymphoma were selected and submitted for

Modified Bixuesan modulates inflammatory and apoptotic gene expression in post-radiotherapy chronic pharyngitis of laryngeal cancer: an integrative network pharmacology and in vitro validation study.

BACKGROUND: Post-radiotherapy chronic pharyngitis affects 60%-80% of laryngeal cancer survivors and is characterized by sustained elevation of pro-inflammatory cytokines and dysregulation of key apoptotic and oncogenic signaling pathways, including NF-κB/PI3K-AKT/EGFR and TP53/CASP3 axes. Modified Bixuesan (MBS), a classical Traditional Chinese Medicine formula with nearly 180 years of clinical use in pharyngolaryngeal disorders, has not been systematically characterized for its molecular mechanism of action in this context. METHODS: We conducted an integrative study combining network pharmac

Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors and Laryngological Outcomes in Patients with Non-Head and Neck Cancer.

OBJECTIVES: As immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) utilization increases in cancer treatment, immune-related adverse events continue to be recognized. Voice, swallowing, and oral dysfunction substantially impair quality of life and treatment tolerance in cancer patients, but the laryngological risks of ICI therapy remain unclear. We compared outcomes for these functions after ICI versus non-ICI antineoplastic therapies. METHODS: Using the TriNetX research network, we identified adults with non-head and neck malignancies treated with ICIs versus non-ICI systemic antineoplastics. To isolate off-t

What Kind of Rhinitis Does Your Patient Have: Practical Considerations for Choosing the Best Treatment for Patients with Chronic Rhinitis.

Chronic rhinitis is defined by one or more symptoms of nasal congestion, anterior and/or posterior nasal drainage, and sneezing. Chronic rhinitis is a common reason for adolescent and adult patients to seek medical care as the symptoms can become pronounced and when uncontrolled, negatively impact the quality of life and productivity of those affected. A thorough clinical history of rhinitis symptoms will help distinguish between the 2 major phenotypes of rhinitis, nonallergic and allergic rhinitis. The clinical history and symptoms are also important to consider when deciding the best treatme

CXCR4+ cells in NPC tumor sphere have metastatic potential.

OBJECTIVE: Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (NPC) tumor stem cells play a crucial role in the occurrence and development of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, but the identity and role of Cancer Stem Cell (CSC) subpopulations that drive metastasis remain unclear. This study explores the mechanisms of NPC stem cell subpopulations (CXCR4+) in the development of NPC, providing a reference for therapeutic targets for NPC. METHODS: Immunohistochemical analysis of CXCR4 expression was performed in 71 NPC and 5 chronic nasopharyngitis tissues. Stemness, tumorigenicity and Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition (EMT) prof

Treatment Response Trajectories of Epipharyngeal Abrasive Therapy (EAT) in Chronic Nasopharyngitis: Phenotypic Classification Into Early, Delayed, and Non-Responders Based on ΔEAT With Outcome Stratification.

Background Treatment responses to epipharyngeal abrasive therapy (EAT) for chronic nasopharyngitis are heterogeneous. Previous analyses of this cohort examined longitudinal changes in EAT and bleeding scores with stratification by tissue type and baseline severity. However, those analyses mainly evaluated overall score changes and baseline-based stratification rather than the timing of individual improvement. The novelty of the present study lies in its focus on temporal response trajectories, specifically when patients improve after EAT. This study classified patients into early responders, d

Can Coexisting Allergic Rhinitis in Patients with Severe Eosinophilic Asthma Be a Prognostic Factor for Efficacy of Biological Therapy? Analysis of Eosinophilic Involvement.

Chronic rhinitis is induced by endotype-diverse inflammatory processes, which complicates effective therapeutic management. According to the current principles of personalized medicine, which also apply to the management of rhinological disorders, the best therapeutic results can be achieved after targeted treatment preceded by analysis of the patient's endotype. Analysis of immune and cellular mechanisms allows for the use of biological treatment, and its effects provide new information on inflammatory processes in the nasal mucosa. The effects of biological treatment may be particularly inte

Causal Effect of Air Pollution on Outpatient Visits for Chronic Rhinitis.

OBJECTIVES: Although the association between air pollutants and chronic rhinitis has been extensively investigated, causal inference is lacking. We aimed to investigate the causal relationship between air quality index (AQI) and outpatient visits for chronic rhinitis using instrumental variable (IV) analysis, employing thermal inversion. METHODS: We used National Health Insurance Service data collected between January 1, 2014, and December 31, 2017, to determine the short-term causal relationship between air pollution and outpatient visits due to chronic rhinitis. A two-stage generalized meth

Exhaled Volatile Organic Compounds Identify Allergic Patients Among Individuals With Chronic Rhinitis.

BACKGROUND: The nasal allergen challenge (NAC) is the gold standard to diagnose allergic rhinitis (AR) and local allergic rhinitis (LAR), but its clinical use remains limited. We investigated whether volatile organic compounds (VOC) in exhaled breath could identify allergic individuals among patients with chronic rhinitis. METHODS: Exhaled breath samples were collected before and 24 h after NAC in participants with AR, LAR, non-allergic rhinitis (NAR), and healthy control (HC). Samples were analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, focusing on saturated hydrocarbons. Associations w
