Haemophilus influenzae is an aerobic pleomorphic gram-negative coccobacillus that requires both X and V factors for growth. It grows poorly, if at all, on ordinary blood agar unless streaked with Staph. aureus. It grows well on chocolate agar. 44 inferior meatal antrostomies in 32 patients with chronic maxillary sinusitis were followed at two month intervals over a period of two years. Closure of the antrostomy occurred in 29.4% of the cases reported. Allergy was unimportant for the operative result, nor was an increased frequency of infections demonstrated following surgery. Subsequently, improvement of sinusitis was noticable, even after closure of the fenestration. In contrast to other reports in the literature, mucociliary drainage from the maxillary sinus to the nose occurs through the operatively placed fenestra.

Over 700 cases of anaerobic osteomyelitis have been reported in the literature. Nonetheless, most reviews of osteomyelitis have paid little attention to the potential role of anaerobes in bone infections. There have, as yet, been no prospective studies of osteomyelitis utlizing optimal anaerobic transport and culture techniques. In 14 cases of hairy cell leukemia unique vascular lesions not previously reported were observed in surgically resected spleens and hepatic biopsies. Effect of dietary indole on the urinary bladder tumorigenesis by chronic dibutylnitrosamine (DBN) treatment was evaluated in hamsters. The second documented case of prolidase deficiency is presented. Clinical manifestations include chronic otitis media and sinusitis, dermatitis, and splenomegaly. Prolidase is undetectable in the white blood cells of the patient and near or less than the lower range of normal in each parent. Sinusitis in children is a frequent problem in pediatric otorhinolaryngology. Medical treatment is often incomplete or inadequate, creating the need for proper surgical therapy. A new operative technique is described in which the lacrimal sac is drained into the maxillary sinus. The advantages of the procedure, especially of avoiding a facial incision, are emphasized. On the grounds of clinical data, pathohistologic and pathoimmunomorphologic investigations the author developed a new clinico-immunologic classification of sinusites. For this purpose the author examined 203 patients with highmoritis and observed a group of 93 patients with allergic and vasomotor rhinosinusopathies. Pathohistologic and patho-immunomorphologic investigation of the changed mucous membrane and polyps were conducted in 43 patients operated on because of acute (necrotic) and other forms of chronic highmoritis.

Chronic hypertrophic polypoid rhinosinusitis is a condition in which the mucous membrane lining the nose and paranasal sinuses becomes markedly hypertrophied, and nasal polyps become evident. Superimposed infection is common. Bony erosion, sometimes marked, may also result. Because of the alterations in bone, the condition may be mistaken for other more serious lesions.

This paper deals with further experiences in endoscopy of the maxillary sinus and in possibilities of endoscopy of frontal and sphenoidal sinuses. Some coloured photographs taken during endoscopy are shown. As the result of 301 sinuscopies of maxillary sinus performed, it could be shown that in 36% of the cases x-ray findings didn't exactly correspond with the endoscopy findings.
