Particulate matter extracted from human anthracotic tissues induces inflammatory markers in co-culture of lung cells and macrophages.

Anthracosis, characterized by black pigmentation in the lungs and tracheobronchial tree due to inhaled carbon particles, has been linked to urban air pollution. This study analyzed the chemical composition of particulate matter extracted from anthracotic tissue (APE) and its effects on human bronchial cells (BEAS-2B) and lung adenocarcinoma cells (A549) in co-culture with M1 or M2 macrophages. Diesel exhaust particles (DEP) served as a positive control. APE was extracted from lung and lymph nodes at Capital Death Verification Service (SVO) and chemically characterized for polycyclic aromatic h

Quantitative lung particulate analysis links increased anthracotic pigment burden to burn pit exposure in post-9/11 veterans with distal lung disease.

Military deployment to Southwest Asia and Afghanistan is linked to complex hazardous airborne exposures, but ascertaining the contributions of specific environmental toxicants in causing or contributing to deployment-related distal lung diseases (DDLD) remains challenging. We applied a quantitative microscopy for particulate matter (QM-PM) technique to measure the in situ burden of pigmented and birefringent lung particulates in 24 veterans with DDLD, 10 smokers with respiratory bronchiolitis (RB), and 10 healthy controls. Veterans were more likely to be male (88%) and were significantly young

Vitamin D3 reverses immune tolerance and enhances the cytotoxicity of effector T cells in coal pneumoconiosis.

Coal worker's pneumoconiosis (CWP) is a common occupational disease that coal miners are highly susceptible due to long-term exposure to coal dust particles (CDP). CWP can induce the accumulation of immune cells surrounding the bronchioles and alveoli in the lungs, resulting in pulmonary fibrosis and compromised immune function. Using single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-Seq), our previous studies disclose that CDP exposure triggers heterogeneity of transcriptional profiles in mouse pneumoconiosis, while Vitamin D3 (VitD3) supplementation reduces CDP-induced cytotoxicity; however, the mechanism b

A 73-year-old woman with poorly differentiated gastric adenocarcinoma was referred to 18 F-FDG PET/CT for evaluation of the disease. FDG PET/CT showed intense uptake in the disseminated lymph nodes. However, there was no uptake in the primary tumoral lesion. Subsequently, 68 Ga-FAPI-04 PET/CT was performed with the decision of the tumor board and demonstrated intense uptake in the tumoral lesion. However, there was low or no uptake in disseminated lymph nodes. Tru-cut biopsy results revealed that all the lymph nodes were associated with anthracosis.

Urine LMs quantitative analysis strategy development and LMs CWP biomarkers discovery.

Coal workers' pneumoconiosis (CWP) is one of the most common inhalation occupational diseases. It is no effective treatment methods. Early diagnosis of CWP could reduce mortality. Lipid mediators (LMs) as key mediators in the generation and resolution of inflammation, are natural biomarkers for diagnosis inflammatory disease, such as CWP. The UHPLC-MRM technique was used to detect LMs in urine. The metabolic network of LMs in CWP and CT group samples was comprehensively analyzed. Screening for major difference compounds between the two groups. Aimed to contribute to the early diagnosis and tre

Predicting coal workers' pneumoconiosis trends: Leveraging historical data with the GARCH model in a Chinese Miner Cohort.

Coal workers' pneumoconiosis (CWP) is one of the most common and severe occupational diseases worldwide. The main risk factor of CWP is exposure to respirable mine dust. Prediction theory was widely applied in the prediction of the epidemic. Here, it was used to identify the characteristics of CWP today and the incidence trends of CWP in the future. Eight thousand nine hundred twenty-eight coal workers from a state-owned coal mine were included during the observation period from 1963 to 2014. In observations, the dust concentration gradually decreased over time, and the incidence of tunnels an

Advantages and rational application of indocyanine green fluorescence in pulmonary nodule surgery: a narrative review.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The early detection and early treatment of high-risk pulmonary nodules directly affect the long-term survival rate of patients. However, conventional nodule localization methods, such as hook-wire, technetium-99m, and methylene blue are associated with issues such as a high-frequency of complications, low patient tolerance, serious side effects, and inability to identify pigmented lungs. For patients who require segmentectomy, there is often a lack of effective path planning, resulting in insufficient resection margins or excessive loss of lung function. Therefore, ef
