Nano-encapsulated Melissa officinalis Essential Oil and Its Antibacterial Effects Against Multi Drug Resistant E. coli and K. pneumonia.

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are common bacterial infections in children, frequently caused by E. coli and K. pneumoniae, whose biofilm-forming ability makes them resistant to antibiotics. In order to investigate an alternate drug delivery system to combat the microbial resistance, M. officinalis essential oil with its inherent antimicrobial properties was loaded in solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN) to properly enhance its antibacterial effects. Physico-chemical evaluations along with antibacterial assessment were conducted. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) results revealed that SLNs had an ave

Essential Oil-Antibiotics Synergistic Delivery Strategy via Phenylboronic-Acid-Functionalized Liposomes for Targeted Treatment of MRSA Pneumonia.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)-induced pneumonia has become a major global public health challenge due to its high mortality and drug resistance. Essential oils, derived from plants, offer a promising solution to combat resistance owing to their low cytotoxicity and multitarget antimicrobial properties. This study designed a phenylboronic acid (PBA)-functionalized liposomal codelivery system (P-Lip@CE) to reverse MRSA resistance by synergistically delivering cefazolin sodium (Cefas) and Alpinia zerumbet essential oil (EOFAZ). The dual-drug system exhibited good storage stab

Wet wipes from Citrus limon sanitizer and banana fiber nonwovens.

Whereas sanitizing wipes are among the strategies for combatting COVID-19, there are growing concerns concerning their disposal, due to majority of them being made of non-biodegradable fibres. Additionally, majority of the sanitizing solutions used are associated with irritations and some are carcinogenic. In this study, banana wipes, impregnated with an organic antimicrobial formulation were developed to counter the unbiodegradable wipes made of synthetic fibres and impregnated with toxic antimicrobial formulations. A spunlaced non-woven fabric made from 100% banana fibres was impregnated wit

Potential Dysphagia Following COVID-19 Infection Due to Cervical Osteophytes: A Case Report.

The epiglottis separates the pharynx from the larynx by flipping upward to prevent swallowed material from entering the airway. Cervical vertebral osteophytes can interfere with this movement, potentially leading to dysphagia. Videofluoroscopic (VF) and videoendoscopic (VE) examinations of swallowing are valuable tools for understanding the pathophysiology of dysphagia and for formulating appropriate rehabilitation plans. A 77-year-old man with pre-existing dysphagia for solid foods was hospitalized for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). He stabilized with antiviral and supportive therapy bu
