OBJECTIVE: Traumatic pneumothoraces (T-PTXs) are traditionally managed with an intercostal catheter (ICC), despite little evidence for this. Success with conservative management of primary spontaneous PTX has been demonstrated, and our ED has adopted a conservative approach where safe for all PTX.

We present a case of black pleural fluid following thoracic trauma. The unusual dark colour most strikingly resembled soy sauce as independently commented upon by multiple treating physicians. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) in the treatment of patients with complicated type B aortic intramural haematoma (IMH).

METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted at a major trauma in South Africa over a 15-year period from January 2004 to December 2018.

A 10-year-old male patient was admitted to the paediatric intensive care unit due to septic shock and oliguric acute renal failure. Herein, we report the case of a 35-year-old female with a trapped right lung secondary to catamenial haemothorax. Following surgical decortication, re-expansion of the lung was not observed until postoperative day 81. This delay represents a heretofore unencountered complication that should be considered in the surgical management of catamenial haemothorax due to thoracic endometriosis syndrome.
