Age-Associated Radiological Characteristics of the Gubernaculum Tract in Unerupted Maxillary Canines: A Retrospective, Computed Tomography Study.

BACKGROUND: The gubernaculum tract (GT) is thought to play a key role in tooth eruption, but its age-associated radiological characteristics in unerupted permanent teeth remain unclear. AIM: To evaluate age-associated radiological characteristics of the GT on computed tomography (CT) in unerupted maxillary canines in patients aged ≥ 9 years. DESIGN: This retrospective study analyzed 314 unerupted maxillary canines from 219 patients. GT status was classified as present, remnant, or non-visualized. GT luminal diameters were measured in GT-present teeth. Associations with age, sex, and unerupte

Guided Eruption of Bilateral Palatally Impacted Maxillary Canines Using a Ballista Spring: A Case Report.

Palatally impacted maxillary canines are a relatively frequent developmental defect that can cause functional, aesthetic, and periodontal issues in cases of inaction. To reposition the impacted teeth into the dental arch and avoid complications related to them, early detection and proper orthodontic treatment are necessary. This case report presents the orthodontic management of a patient with bilateral palatally impacted maxillary canines. After detailed clinical and radiographic assessment, it was decided to apply the treatment plan that included surgical exposure of the impacted canines and

Dose-effect analysis of late dental adverse effects following radiation therapy in survivors of paediatric head and neck rhabdomyosarcoma.

INTRODUCTION: Paediatric head and neck rhabdomyosarcomas (HNRMS) often require radiotherapy, causing dental complications during critical development. Limited literature suggests dose-dependent risks, but clear thresholds for late dental adverse effects are lacking. This study aims to characterize dose effects on developing dentition in paediatric HNRMS patients to identify dose-response relationships informing evidence-based treatment planning. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Orthopantomograms from survivors of HNRMS were evaluated using the validated DENTALE scoring system. Radiation doses from brac

Mesiodens: Clinical Variability, CBCT Evaluation, and Surgical Management, A Three-Case Series.

Mesiodens are the most common supernumerary teeth, typically located in the premaxillary region. They may remain asymptomatic or cause complications such as delayed eruption or displacement of permanent incisors. This case series describes three pediatric male patients with mesiodens. One with single and two cases with double mesiodens. Clinical and radiographic evaluations, including cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), were performed for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. Findings included delayed eruption, midline diastema, and functional discomfort. All supernumerary teeth were su

Subclinical Radiographic Alterations in Maxillary Central Incisors Adjacent to Impacted Mesiodens Without Clinical or Radiographic Complications: A Cone-Beam Computed Tomography Study.

BACKGROUND: The subclinical effects of impacted mesiodens without clinical or radiographic complications on adjacent permanent incisors remain unclear. AIM: This study aimed to assess whether impacted mesiodens without clinical or radiographic complications are associated with quantitative radiographic changes in adjacent maxillary central incisors (MCIs). DESIGN: This cross-sectional study analyzed cone-beam computed tomography images of 53 patients aged 10-15 years with a unilateral impacted mesiodens using an intraindividual contralateral control design. A Case of CHARGE Syndrome With Tooth Eruption Disturbance Caused by Severe Calculus Accumulation.

Individuals with disabilities who are unable to maintain oral intake are at high risk of inadequate oral hygiene because of reduced masticatory stimulation and impaired self-cleansing, leading to excessive dental calculus accumulation. However, the effects of this on tooth eruption are poorly understood. Herein, we report the case of an 18-year-old boy with CHARGE syndrome managed with gastrostomy feeding since childhood. Following prolonged inadequate oral care, severe dental calculus accumulated throughout the dentition. Thick calculi encased the mandibular right first and second deciduous m

Bilateral Maxillary Fourth and Fifth Molars in a 17-Year-Old Female.

Supernumerary teeth are relatively common in clinical practice; however, the occurrence of multiple supernumerary teeth in a bilaterally symmetrical pattern is rare. A 17-year-old female was referred to our department for extraction of impacted third molars. Panoramic radiography revealed two bilaterally symmetrical tooth-like structures adjacent to each maxillary third molar. Computed tomography confirmed that these were independent structures, leading to a diagnosis of bilateral maxillary fourth and fifth molars. In July 2023, the bilateral maxillary and mandibular third molars, together wit

Molecular insights into the role of Wnt signaling in supernumerary maxillary incisor formation.

BACKGROUND: Sclerostin domain-containing 1 (SOSTDC1) deficiency enhances BMP and Wnt signaling, causing supernumerary teeth formation. Competing hypotheses of this formation at different sites have been proposed, and the underlying molecular mechanisms and cell types remain poorly understood. RESULTS: We examined Sostdc1 knockout effects on spatiotemporal expression of Wnt pathway genes in developing maxillary incisors. In wild type mice, we observed an inverse spatiotemporal expression of Sostdc1 and Wnt10a. The knockout caused ectopic expression of Wnt10a, Wnt6, Lrp4, Dkk1, and Sost and pro

RUNX2 promotes osteoclast differentiation and bone resorption via the newly identified LncRNA-ROD: implications for alveolar remodeling.

Delayed tooth eruption is a hallmark of cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD) caused by RUNX2 haploinsufficiency, yet the underlying molecular mechanism remains undefined. Here, we show that RUNX2 regulates osteoclast-mediated alveolar bone remodeling, a process closely associated with tooth eruption. Runx2+/- mice exhibit impaired osteoclast differentiation and reduced alveolar bone resorption, resulting in delayed mandibular molar eruption-a phenotype that recapitulates human CCD. Mechanistically, RUNX2 transcriptionally activates LncRNA-ROD (Regulator of Osteoclast Differentiation), which promotes

Temporal dynamics of N2O emissions from pasture urine patches: drivers and source processes.

Nitrous oxide fluxes from urine patches (F(N2O)urine) of grazing livestock are variable over time due to fluctuations in driving parameters, such as soil temperature, water-filled pore space (WFPS), and availability of the source substrates ammonium and nitrate. Therefore, the frequency and timing of flux measurements after urine application are important when determining cumulative F(N2O)urine. In this study, F(N2O)urine was measured in eight experiments at high temporal frequency using an automatic chamber system in a pasture located in Switzerland. A driver analysis using random forest iden

Appliance-Supported Decompression for Radicular Cysts Associated With Primary Molars: A Pediatric Case Series.

INTRODUCTION: Radicular cysts associated with primary teeth are uncommon in pediatric patients but may cause extensive bone destruction and displacement of developing permanent tooth germs. Conventional surgical enucleation may increase the risk of damage to adjacent structures; therefore, conservative treatment approaches such as marsupialization and decompression are preferred. Appliance-supported decompression systems have been increasingly used to maintain continuous drainage while preserving the eruption potential of permanent teeth. CASE SERIES: This case series presents three pediatric

Assessment of Bone Bridging of a Novel Wet-Field Regenerative Bone Adhesive for Lumbar Spine Fusion in an Ovine Model at 12, 26, and 52 Weeks.

BACKGROUND: Current techniques for instrumented posterolateral lumbar fusion include the use of titanium rods and pedicle screws to provide mechanical fixation, while autograft and/or allograft bone is used to promote osseous union across the fusion site. Although bone graft substitutes may be used for this purpose, they can resorb before a solid fusion is established, leading to nonunion. Tetracalcium phosphate-phosphoserine (TTCP-PS) is a novel, bioresorbable, osteoconductive, wet-field mineral-organic bone adhesive and bone graft substitute that has been previously shown to promote bone hea

Spontaneous regression of dentigerous cyst in a impacted mandibular first permanent molar with eruptive potential: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Surgery is the main treatment for dentigerous cysts. Although the treatment concept has shifted from radical lesion removal to function‑preserving strategies, surgical trauma and related risks are still hard to avoid completely. The strategy of spontaneous fenestration may be preferred in a few dentigerous cysts in children. CASE PRESENTATION: A 6-year-old boy was referred because of the delayed eruption of a left mandibular posterior tooth. Panoramic radiographic examination revealed a well-defined radiolucent area measuring approximately 22 × 18 mm around the crown of the left m

A novel brachydactyly type E syndrome caused by variants in helix 8 of the PTH1R.

The parathyroid hormone receptor 1 (PTH1R) transmits stimuli provided by PTH and PTH-related protein (PTHrP) and thus plays key roles in calcium and phosphate homeostasis as well as skeletal development. Variants in PTH1R have been linked to several conditions, including Jansen metaphyseal chondrodysplasia, Blomstrand chondrodysplasia, primary failure of tooth eruption, and Eiken syndrome. Here, we report a novel skeletal phenotype identified in two unrelated families associated with PTH1R variants. The clinical features include brachydactyly type E, mild short stature, and dental anomalies. A
