Ectopic Maxillary Third Molar with a Large Odontogenic Keratocyst in Roof of Maxillary Sinus - A Case Report.

Odontogenic keratocysts (OKCs) are aggressive odontogenic cysts with a high recurrence potential. Maxillary sinus involvement is exceedingly rare, and association with an ectopic third molar located near the sinus roof is rarer still. A 26-year-old female presented with vague midfacial fullness and an unerupted maxillary third molar. Panoramic radiography and CBCT revealed an ectopic 18 near the superior sinus wall enveloped by a well-defined radiolucent lesion of higher soft-tissue density than typical dentigerous cysts. The lesion showed scalloped borders, cortical thinning, and anteroposter

Autotransplantation as a Therapeutic Approach for Canine Inclusion and Transmigration in Adolescent Patients: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Bony inclusion of permanent teeth refers to the failure of a tooth to erupt within the expected timeframe, commonly affecting upper and lower canines. The etiology remains debated, with genetic factors and eruption guidance disturbances being the primary hypotheses. CASE REPORT: This case report describes the management of a 13.6-year-old male patient presenting with impacted upper and lower canines (1.3, 2.3, 3.3) and transmigration of tooth 3.3. The patient exhibited a Class I malocclusion, midline deviations, and significant dento-dental discrepancies, mainly due to conoid late

Timing of primary maxillary tooth eruption in preterm compared to term infants: a retrospective longitudinal cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Reported eruption times of primary teeth in term and preterm infants are largely based on detection of visible tooth structure at the gingival level by parents, paediatricians, or dentists. Furthermore, there is a lack of quantitative data on primary tooth eruption velocity in the literature. This study aimed to compare eruption timing, eruption velocity, and maximum crown length by modelling longitudinal crown eruption trajectories in term and preterm infants. METHODS: This retrospective longitudinal cohort study included 100 infants (51 preterm, 49 full-term) who were followed f

Guided eruption of an impacted maxillary right canine: a multidisciplinary case report.

Maxillary canine impaction is a relatively common eruption disturbance that can compromise smile esthetics and functional occlusion. Successful management of impacted canines often requires a multidisciplinary approach combining surgical exposure, orthodontic traction, and radiographic monitoring. A 16-year-old girl presented with a chief concern of dissatisfaction with her smile esthetics. Clinical and radiographic evaluations revealed a palatally impacted maxillary right canine and a retained primary maxillary right canine, which was subsequently extracted. Orthodontic treatment was initiate

Evidence-Based Evaluation of Malocclusion Management in the Mixed Dentition: From Prevention to Clinical Controversy.

The management of malocclusion during the mixed dentition is a crucial time for preventive and interceptive orthodontic intervention, given the complex interactions among craniofacial growth, tooth eruption, and orofacial function. Despite widespread use of early orthodontic treatment, uncertainty still remains about the optimal timing, choice of appliance, and long-term stability. This review collates recent evidence and proposes a functional-preventive approach to managing malocclusion in the mixed dentition, emphasizing risk assessment, etiologic control, and individualized treatment planni

Management of a Severe Traumatic Intrusion of a Permanent Incisor With Spontaneous Re-Eruption After Maxillary Expansion: A Surgical-Orthodontic Case Report.

BACKGROUND Traumatic intrusion of permanent incisors is one of the most severe forms of dental injury and is frequently associated with complications such as pulp necrosis, root resorption, and ankylosis. Although IADT guidelines provide structured recommendations based on the stage of root development and degree of intrusion, some clinical situations remain borderline, particularly cases presenting an open apex in an otherwise nearly mature root, making classification and treatment planning challenging. CASE REPORT A 7-year-old girl presented with severe intrusive luxation (>10 mm) of the per

Radiographic indicators of favorable second permanent molar eruption are infrequently present at the time of first permanent molar extraction: a retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: First permanent molars (FPMs) erupt early and remain exposed to the oral environment for prolonged periods, making them particularly susceptible to dental caries, molar-incisor hypomineralization (MIH), restorative failure, and repeated restorative intervention. When long-term prognosis becomes unfavorable, extraction may represent a biologically appropriate treatment option. Favorable spontaneous eruptive adaptation of the second permanent molar (SPM) has been associated with several radiographic and developmental variables. This retrospective radiographic study evaluated demograp

Orthodontic Extrusion of a Traumatically Intruded and Subsequently Ankylosed Incisor Following Surgical Luxation: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: The self-healing process following intrusive luxation of a tooth is often associated with serious complications, such as ankylosis. Once traumatic ankylosis is confirmed, spontaneous re-eruption of the intruded tooth is unlikely, and timely intervention is crucial to facilitate its repositioning. CASE REPORT: This case report details the systematic management of an adolescent patient with a traumatically intruded incisor. Ankylosis was diagnosed after the tooth showed no spontaneous re-eruption during monitoring and failed to respond to orthodontic traction. Surgical luxation was

Multidisciplinary Orthodontic Management of Non-syndromic Delayed Tooth Eruption and Impacted Maxillary Canine Complicated by Traumatic Mandibular Fracture in a Healthy Adolescent: A Case Report.

Delayed eruption of multiple teeth in systemically healthy, non-syndromic adolescents represents a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. When combined with impacted maxillary canines and vertical discrepancies, management becomes more complex. A 14-year-old healthy male presented with delayed eruption (DE) of multiple permanent teeth. Clinical and radiographic examination revealed bilateral DE of mandibular canines and both premolars, a unilateral impacted maxillary canine, and a severe deep bite. The patient had no relevant medical history and showed normal physical development. Orthodontic t

A Rare Case of Hyperplastic Dental Follicle Presenting With an Unusually Large Radiolucent Area.

Hyperplastic dental follicle (HDF) is a rare odontogenic hamartomatous lesion typically associated with unerupted teeth in children and adolescents and is often found incidentally on radiographic imaging. HDF usually presents as a pericoronal radiolucency of 2-3 mm in diameter and is commonly difficult to distinguish from dentigerous cysts on radiographs. We report an unusual case of HDF in an 11-year-old male who was referred for evaluation of delayed eruption of the left maxillary canine. Panoramic radiography and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) revealed a remarkably large radiolucent a

The genetic basis of over-retained deciduous teeth and delayed permanent tooth eruption: A systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Tooth eruption is a complex biological process regulated by genetic and environmental factors. Deviations from the normal tooth eruption sequence, such as over-retained deciduous teeth (ORDT) and delayed permanent tooth eruption (DPTE), can lead to multiple complications. Although several local and systemic factors are well-established contributors, increasing evidence suggests a potential genetic contribution to tooth eruption disturbances. The aim of this systematic review was to identify genes and genetic traits potentially associated with ORDT or DPTE through systematically r
