Sella turcica bridging as a potential diagnostic tool for dental anomalies: A retrospective cross-sectional study at university dental hospital.

BACKGROUND: A lateral cephalogram is an essential diagnostic record for an orthodontist. It is used for diagnosis and treatment planning. This can be a prediction tool as well for developing anomalies of the skeletal, dental, and soft tissues of the head and neck. The sella turcica (ST), being a central landmark for cephalometric assessment, has great importance in itself as a diagnostic parameter to predict certain dental problems related to its bridging. AIM OF THE STUDY: 1. To assess and compare the shape, size, and bridging of ST in subjects of Taif with different skeletal classifications

Treatment and genetic analysis of multiple supernumerary and impacted teeth in an adolescent patient.

BACKGROUND: Multiple supernumerary teeth, combined with numerous impacted teeth, can lead to various malocclusions, posing significant treatment challenges. While certain genes associated with syndromic cases of multiple supernumerary and impacted teeth have been identified, the etiologies of non-syndromic cases still largely remain elusive. CASE PRESENTATION: Here, we report a treatment of a 12-year-old boy who presented with 10 supernumerary teeth and 6 impacted teeth, accompanied by a genetic analysis to explore the underlying etiology. During the treatment, fifteen teeth were extracted, a

RadImageNet and ImageNet as Datasets for Transfer Learning in the Assessment of Dental Radiographs: A Comparative Study.

Transfer learning (TL) is an alternative approach to the full training of deep learning (DL) models from scratch and can transfer knowledge gained from large-scale data to solve different problems. ImageNet, which is a publicly available large-scale dataset, is a commonly used dataset for TL-based image analysis; many studies have applied pre-trained models from ImageNet to clinical prediction tasks and have reported promising results. However, some have questioned the effectiveness of using ImageNet, which consists solely of natural images, for medical image analysis. The aim of this study wa

A Unique Case of Supernumerary Teeth Erupting Inside a Maxillary Sinus Osteoma.

Introduction: Ectopic foreign bodies in the maxillary sinus occur rarely. Ectopic tooth eruption rarely occurs in the orbit, nasal cavity, maxillary sinus, and elsewhere. Ectopic eruption of teeth in the maxillary sinus is most commonly associated with wisdom teeth and is rarely associated with supernumerary teeth. This rare phenomenon may be accompanied by chronic recurrent sinusitis with headaches and facial pain. However, fibro-osseous lesions in the paranasal sinuses are discovered incidentally on X-ray images and are often asymptomatic. Osteoma is the most common fibro-osseous lesion that

Pediatric High Labial Frenum Management: Utilizing a Diode Laser for the Transformation of the Smile of an Eight-Year-Old Child.

Median diastema is a physiological occurrence that is frequently seen in the maxillary jaw. Therefore, a median diastema has been associated with a wide range of etiological variables, including thumb sucking, supernumerary teeth, tongue thrusting, some dentoalveolar discrepancy, and hypodontia. Patient esthetic and function demands are both negated by the labial frenum's abnormal location in relation to the maxillary anterior teeth, which results in diastema and gingival recession. Lasers are now being used in several fields of dentistry as an alternative to conventional scalpel operations. F

Extraction of an ectopic supernumerary tooth through nasal cavity with piezosurgery under local anesthesia: A case report.

KEY CLINICAL MESSAGE: The ectopic supernumerary teeth (ST) commonly occur in the oral cavity. Ectopic ST in the maxilla can be extracted not only through an intraoral approach but also through a nasal approach. ABSTRACT: The ectopic supernumerary teeth (ST) commonly occur in the oral cavity. We are reporting a case of a 23-year-old female patient with one ectopic ST in the anterior midmaxillary region. We extracted the ectopic ST under local tissue anesthesia through the nasal cavity using piezosurgery and minimally invasive extraction tools. During the operation, the adjacent structures rema

Rare Germline Variants in the Adenomatous Polyposis Coli Gene Associated with Dental and Osseous Anomalies.

APC is a tumor suppressor gene that exerts its effect through the regulation of the Wnt signaling pathway. Loss of function mutations of the gene are associated with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP). Early diagnosis in FAP patients is essential to prevent the development of colorectal cancer. Extraintestinal manifestations often precede the formation of the polyposis; therefore, these manifestations may serve as a clinical indicator for the condition. The aim of this study was to assess genotype-phenotype associations between the location of APC mutations and various extraintestinal featur

Anterior Maxillary Mesiodens Extraction in a Young Adult Male: A Case Report.

Mesiodens are classified as supernumerary teeth located in the maxilla, specifically in the palatal region between the central incisors. The prevalence of this condition varies between 0.15% and 1.9% among individuals. The presence of mesiodens can potentially affect the normal growth and development of teeth, leading to delayed eruption of permanent teeth, displacement or rotation of adjacent teeth, root resorption, and infectious pulpitis. This report discusses the case of a 14-year-old male patient who presented with a palatally placed mesiodens, which was completely erupted in the oral cav

A Rare Case of Peripheral Exophytic Osteoma of the Mandible Arising From an Extraction Site: Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) Findings.

A benign osteogenic tumor made up of mature, well-differentiated bone tissue is called an osteoma. Jaw solitary peripheral osteomas are an uncommon occurrence. The mandible is affected more frequently than the maxilla, and the lingual side of the body, the angle, and the inferior border of the jaw are the sites of highest preference. Males are more likely than females to be impacted by osteomas, which can strike at any age. Patients with osteomas should be considered to have Gardner syndrome. This condition includes many embedded or supernumerary teeth, skeletal abnormalities such as osteoma a

Maxillary Central Incisor Eruption Failure Due to Supernumerary Teeth and Pericoronal Hamartoma: A Report of a Rare Case.

Impaction of permanent teeth during the replacement period is a relatively common occurrence in clinical practice. Tooth impaction occurs in the presence of factors that inhibit tooth eruption, such as supernumerary teeth or tumors. This is a report of permanent tooth impaction due to supernumerary teeth and pericoronal myxofibrous hyperplasia (PMH), a type of pericoronal hamartomatous lesion. An eight-year-old girl was diagnosed with an unerupted right maxillary central incisor. An inverted supernumerary tooth was present on the palatal side of the impacted central incisor, and PMH developed
