Noonan syndrome (NS) is a common congenital syndrome characterized by multiple anomalies commonly observed in children. In this article, we describe a case of a patient with congenital heart disease, severe mitral regurgitation, and Nonaan syndrome presented with left maxillary swelling and pain, which was treated by complete surgical excision of the left maxillary odontoma. Based on this case, we conclude that numerous oral abnormalities may be related to NS and thus necessitate interdisciplinary treatment planning and prompt therapy. The importance of including oral manifestations as a scori

Supernumerary molars are an uncommon anomaly that can occur in the maxillofacial complex, referring to the presence of additional teeth in the dental arch. This condition is often associated with several rare disorders such as Gardner's syndrome, Cleidocranial dysplasia, Ehler-Danlos syndrome, and Down syndrome However, it is seldom observed in non-syndromic associations. They occur more frequently in the maxilla than in the mandible. This research represents a unique case study that explores unerupted paramolar and parapremolar follicles coexisting in both the maxillary and mandibular arches

Diprosopus is a congenital anomaly in which partial or complete duplication of craniofacial structures occurs. Because it is rare, the mortality rate is high, and information concerning this anomaly is scarce. This study describes a case of human diprosopus in a 9-year-old male individual, who has severe complications associated with the central nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory, and digestive systems. Since birth, he has been monitored in a specialized hospital environment, where he has undergone several surgeries and multidisciplinary treatments. Regarding the craniofacial aspects, he had

This article presents the rare case of a patient with gemination and fusion involving conical supernumerary teeth and the second mandibular molar, along with its treatment. The 13-year-old girl, without any associated syndromes and currently undergoing orthodontic treatment, was referred for evaluation due to the presence of a supernumerary tooth. Following a clinical examination and analysis of a panoramic radiograph, a cone beam computed tomography was requested for a more detailed assessment of the supernumerary tooth and its relationship with adjacent structures. The sagittal sections reve

The presence of double mesiodens or mesiodentes, i.e., two supernumerary teeth in the maxillary midline, presents unique challenges in mixed dentition. Common clinical manifestations include delayed eruption, midline diastema, and occlusal disturbances, leading to complications such as root resorption, pathological migration of tooth, crowding, cyst formation, and malocclusion. Mesiodens can be associated with several syndromes, like cleidocranial dysplasia, familial adenomatous polyposis, trichorhinophalangeal syndrome, type I, Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome, and Nance-Horan syndrome, among others

The aim of this case series was to illustrate the development of late-forming supernumerary teeth (LFST) and highlight the implications for orthodontic treatment. There are limited studies relating to the aetiology, prevalence and treatment of LFST and the cases presented here demonstrate the management of LFST within a tertiary care centre. Five cases are presented, which show various presentations and chronological ages in the development of LFST. This case series emphasises the significance of maintaining a low threshold for suspecting LFST in patients where supernumerary teeth have previou

Impacted supernumerary teeth are defined as the presence of one or more teeth in a patient's upper and lower jaws in addition to the normal number of teeth in the dental arch. It has an incidence rate of approximately 1%-14% and more frequently occurs in males than females, may be single or multiple, unilateral or bilateral, erupted or impacted. In this article, we describe the case of a patient with two supernumerary teeth between the roots of the mandibular second premolar and the first molar, which influenced the effectiveness of the first orthodontic treatment. Supernumerary teeth are presented in any region of the dental arches as additional teeth to the standard set of teeth and may present in either the primary or secondary dentition. They can be found as single or multiple teeth on one or both sides of the dental arches, with a preference for the premaxilla. The supernumerary teeth might cause aesthetic and/or functional problems, mainly if situated in the maxillary anterior region. Multiple supernumerary teeth are often related to specific conditions or in syndromic patients, i.e., cleft palate, cleft lip, cleidocranial dysplasia, and Gardner's

Cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD) is a developmental anomaly of the skeleton and teeth which may be inherited, be transmitted as dominant characteristics in either male or female or even appear spontaneously. A case was reported in the department of oral medicine and radiology of two sisters age 17 and 19 years old with a chief complaint of milk teeth not falling since childhood. They presented specific physical and oral findings in common which suggested the idea of an undiagnosed syndrome. The sisters showed CCD characteristics including short stature (4 feet) and frontal bone resorption indicat

Tooth formation is a process tightly regulated by reciprocal interactions between epithelial and mesenchymal tissues. These epithelial-mesenchyme interactions regulate the expression of target genes via transcription factors. Among the regulatory elements governing this process, Epiprofin/Sp6 is a zinc finger transcription factor which is expressed in the embryonic dental epithelium and in differentiating pre-odontoblasts. Epiprofin knockout (Epfn-/-) mice present severe dental abnormalities, such as supernumerary teeth and enamel hypoplasia. Here, we describe dentin defects in molars and inci

Tessier No. 7 cleft, known as lateral facial cleft, is a rare and understudied entity with an incidence of 1/80,000-1/300,000 live births. Besides perioral tissue abnormalities manifesting as macrostomia, Tessier 7 cleft also involves anomalies of the underlying bony structures. It can appear as part of a syndrome, such as Treacher-Collins syndrome or Goldenhar/Orbito-Auriculo-Vestibular Spectrum, or as an isolated form (unilateral or bilateral) with variable expressions. Bilateral maxillary duplication in Tessier 7 cleft is considered extremely rare, accounting for only two previously present

The presence of impacted and/or supernumerary teeth in the maxillary anterior region can cause complications when attempting to perform restorations with implants. Extracting these structures can lead to adverse issues related to the adjacent dentition and require osseous grafting to provide a base to house the planned implant, but such an approach increases treatment time and cost. In this case report, a patient presented with an impacted permanent canine oriented on the horizontal plane with several supernumerary teeth coronal to the impacted canine. CBCT analysis revealed a very thin buccal

Mesiodens are common supernumerary teeth that prominently erupt in the midline between the maxillary central incisors. If two or more mesiodens are present, they are termed mesiodentes, indicating the presence of multiple supernumerary teeth in the midline. These often cause aesthetic disharmony in the anterior teeth due to their abnormal position, leading to extraction in most cases and resulting in midline diastema when impacted or partially erupted. This case is uncommon, as the patient expressed a desire to preserve their mesiodens as a distinctive feature, considering them a familial trai

OBJECTIVES: To explore the association between third molar agenesis and supernumerary tooth formation in a white-European population.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A record review in various orthodontic clinics identified 380 eligible white-European individuals, half of whom had non-syndromic permanent supernumerary teeth (122 males and 68 females, totalling 244 supernumerary teeth; median age: 13.1, iqr: 1.5 years), and the other half were age- and sex-matched controls with full dentition, excluding the third molars. Tooth sequences were identified in panoramic radiographs.
RESULTS: In the supernu
