Effects of a New Combination of Antibiofilm Enzymes, Antiadhesive Agents, and Liquorice Extracts on Plaque Accumulation in Dogs: An Unicenter, Controlled, and Randomized Study.

Dental home care of pets plays a critical role in preventing periodontal disease. Active methods of dental home care such as tooth brushing are recommended along with oral hygiene measures that can help reduce dental plaque. The study evaluated the effectiveness of a new topical oral gel (TOG) in controlling plaque accumulation in dogs. After scaling and polishing, 32 dogs were randomly assigned to either a control group with no further oral hygiene care or the TOG group that received an application of the oral gel once a day for 30 days. All dogs were fed the same diet during the trial. Five

Inositol-requiring enzyme 1 alpha is essential for dentinogenesis.

INTRODUCTION: Inositol-requiring enzyme 1 alpha (IRE1α), encoded by endoplasmic reticulum (ER) to nucleus signaling 1 (Ern1) gene, is the most conserved sensor of ER stress. IRE1α-initiated signaling pathways contribute to functional maturation of secretory cells and have been implicated in various human diseases. In this study, we examined the roles of IRE1α in odontoblast development and dentin formation in wild-type mice as well as in Dspp P19L mutant mice, which express a pathogenic variant of dentin sialophosphoprotein (P19L-DSPP) and exhibit a dentinogenesis imperfecta (DGI)-like phenoty

Probiotics and amelioration of periodontitis: significant roles of Lacticaseibacillus casei DS31.

BACKGROUND: Periodontitis, a chronic gum disease caused by Porphyromonas gingivalis infection, if left untreated, can result in tooth loss, alveolar bone loss, halitosis and other oral health complications. METHODS: To investigate the preventive and therapeutic effects of Lacticaseibacillus casei DS31 from the large yellow croaker (Larimichthys crocea) on periodontitis, three experimental models-biofilm, cellular, and animal models-were established to systematically evaluate its efficacy. First, we sought to clarify the effect of DS31 against P. gingivalis biofilm. Then, the investigation ent

Ectopic deciduous canine tooth inside the submandibular duct: A rare case report with literature review.

Obstructive sialadenitis is the most prevalent salivary gland disorder, with sialolithiasis, most commonly affecting the submandibular gland, being the leading cause. Rarely, other obstructive bodies can mimic sialoliths in clinical and radiographic presentations. This report presents a rare case of an ectopic tooth discovered accidentally within the submandibular duct. The tooth was successfully removed using a combined intraoral sialendoscopic approach, emphasizing the favorable outcome of such treatment option. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis we

Relationships of GDAP1 Mutations to Disease Phenotype and Mechanisms of Therapeutic Action of Oxidative Metabolism Activators in a Patient with Charcot-Marie-Tooth Neuropathy Type 2K.

The development of personalized medicine, including the treatment of hereditary diseases, requires translation of advances in biochemistry into medical practice. Our work is dedicated to solving this problem in a clinical case of hereditary Charcot-Marie-Tooth neuropathy type 2K (CMT2K), induced by the compound heterozygous mutations in the GDAP1 gene leading to the protein variants with the most common in Europe substitution L239F (inherited from the father) and previously uncharacterized substitution A175P (inherited from the mother). The ganglioside-induced differentiation-associated protei

The role of cellular lipid metabolism and lipid-lowering drugs in periodontitis.

Initiated by bacteria, periodontitis (PD) is a complex, chronic inflammatory disease of the supporting tissue of the gums and teeth. Also linked to PD include human papillomavirus (HPV), hepatitis B virus (HBV), Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), human cytomegalovirus (CMV), and Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV). PD also raises the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) because it triggers inflammatory reactions throughout the body. CVD and chronic PD were linked to significantly elevated levels of C-reactive protein and blood lipids. Furthermore, elevated lipid peroxidation (LPO) levels may influence PD-relate

PLAIN ENGLISH SUMMARY: Parents of children with physical disabilities do a lot to support their child in daily life. In doing this they are faced with many challenges. These parents have a wide range of unmet needs, especially for information, on different topics. It is sometimes hard for them to get the right information at the right moment, and to ask the right questions to physicians and other healthcare professionals. In order to develop a digital tool to help parents formulate questions and find information, we thought it would be crucial to work together in a process of co-creation with

Accumulation of extracellular elastin-derived peptides disturbed neuronal morphology and neuron-microglia crosstalk in aged brain.

Extracellular elastin-derived peptides (EDPs) accumulate in the aging brain and have been associated with vascular dementia and Alzheimer's disease (AD). The activation of inflammatory processes in glial cells with EDP treatment has received attention, but not in neurons. To properly understand EDPs' pathogenic significance, the impact on neuronal function and neuron-microglia crosstalk was explored further. Among the EDP molecules, Val-Gly-Val-Ala-Pro-Gly (VGVAPG) is a typical repeating hexapeptide. Here, we observed that EDPs-VGVAPG influenced neuronal survival and morphology in a dose-depen

Global, regional, and national burden and quality of care index (QCI) of oral disorders: a systematic analysis of the global burden of disease study 1990-2017.

BACKGROUND: Oral disorders are still a major global public health challenge, considering their perpetuating and chronic nature. Currently, there is no direct index to measure the quality of care on a population scale. Hence, we aim to propose a new index to measure the quality of care for oral disorders worldwide. METHODS: We generated our database using the data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study 2017. Among different variables such as prevalence, incidence, years lived with disability, and disability-adjusted life years, we utilised principal component analysis (PCA) to determine

Expert consensus on odontogenic maxillary sinusitis multi-disciplinary treatment.

Odontogenic maxillary sinusitis (OMS) is a subtype of maxillary sinusitis (MS). It is actually inflammation of the maxillary sinus that secondary to adjacent infectious maxillary dental lesion. Due to the lack of unique clinical features, OMS is difficult to distinguish from other types of rhinosinusitis. Besides, the characteristic infectious pathogeny of OMS makes it is resistant to conventional therapies of rhinosinusitis. Its current diagnosis and treatment are thus facing great difficulties. The multi-disciplinary cooperation between otolaryngologists and dentists is absolutely urgent to

Human saliva modifies growth, biofilm architecture, and competitive behaviors of oral streptococci.

UNLABELLED: The bacteria within supragingival biofilms participate in complex exchanges with other microbes inhabiting the same niche. One example is the mutans group streptococci (Streptococcus mutans), implicated in the development of tooth decay, and other health-associated commensal streptococci species. Previously, our group transcriptomically characterized intermicrobial interactions between S. mutans and several species of oral bacteria. However, these experiments were carried out in a medium without human saliva. To better mimic their natural environment, we first evaluated how inclusi

Genetic Association between the Risk of Dental Caries and MTR Gene Polymorphism in Chinese Children.

Early childhood caries (ECC) is common in children. Little is known about the genetic association of the methionine synthesis reductase (MTRR) gene rs1801394 and methionine synthetase (MTR) gene rs1805087 polymorphisms with ECC, which was examined in the Chinese Han population. Genotyping was performed using the buccal mucosa from 150 normal and 150 ECC children. For genotype and allele distribution comparison, Chi-square test and multiple logistic regression analysis were performed. The odd ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated. MTR gene rs1805087 AG genotype distributio
