BACKGROUND: Periodontitis is becoming increasingly common in youth. However, a validated model for assessing the risk of periodontitis in youth is lacking. This study aimed to identify independent risk factors and develop a nomogram for assessing periodontitis risk in youth within a clinical setting. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, we recruited 807 participants aged 10–24 from the Periodontology Department of Qingdao Stomatological Hospital (Qingdao, Shandong, China). Data on 16 potential risk factors were collected. The participants were randomly allocated to the training and validati

Impacted canines are very frequent, and their management is fundamental in aesthetics and functional occlusion. The planning and choice of an adequate surgical-orthodontic treatment for the discovery of impacted teeth is essential. Four clinical cases are presented that show the clinical and imaging considerations for diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis, with the description of surgical approaches with open, closed techniques and a combination of both, for impacted maxillary and mandibular teeth in pediatric patients. The follow-up has allowed correct management in the orthodontic traction of

Background/Objectives: Pre-eruptive intracoronal resorption (PEIR) in impacted or unerupted teeth often remains undiagnosed. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of PEIR with the aid of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and propose a new three-dimensional (3D) classification for the analysis of the lesions. Methods: A total of 164 unerupted teeth diagnosed in CBCT scans, derived from an equivalent number of patients, were examined for the presence of PEIR, tooth type, angulation and position. A novel 3D classification system was proposed and all PEIR lesions were further

BACKGROUND: Maxillary canines are the most frequently impacted teeth after the third molars, with an incidence of 0.9%-2.2% where females are 2-3 times more affected. The various causes include local, systemic, and genetic factors. To prevent complications, early prediction and age-appropriate intervention are crucial for initiating timely interceptive orthodontic treatment, thereby reducing treatment duration and cost.
AIM: To validate the modified Erickson's and Kuroll's method in predicting the prevalence of canine impaction in children aged 14-18 years.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Children vi

BACKGROUND: Digital technology has been applied in the field of oral surgery. In this study, the efficacy of custom-made surgical guides for the removal of supernumerary impacted teeth in the maxilla was investigated. METHODS: The surgical guides were designed with access holes and rods that corresponded to the positions of the impacted teeth and the direction of the approach. The biocompatibility of the 3D-printed materials was first assessed in vitro. The efficacy of the printed surgical guides was evaluated in an in vitro experimental model study performed by 32 oral surgeons on 3D-printed

Dentigerous cysts are common odontogenic cysts associated with the crowns of unerupted teeth and are often detected incidentally due to their asymptomatic nature. This case series presents three patients with radiolucent lesions associated with impacted teeth, all of which were clinically silent yet demonstrated significant cystic expansion on radiographic examination. Surgical enucleation of the cysts along with the extraction of the associated impacted teeth was performed in all cases, and histopathological analysis confirmed the diagnosis of dentigerous cyst. Postoperative follow-up reveale

Impacted teeth represent a significant dental health concern with potential complications including infections, cysts, and crowding. While extensively studied globally, no prior research has examined prevalence patterns in Afghanistan's clinical population. This study aimed to determine the clinical prevalence and demographic patterns of impacted teeth among patients treated at Kabul National Curative and Specialized Stomatology Hospital. In this retrospective study, we analyzed 4000 patient records (2019-2022), identifying 298 cases with radiographically confirmed impacted teeth. Data on demo

Introduction Third molars are the most commonly impacted teeth in the oral cavity. Misconceptions among the general population regarding the complications associated with their removal have resulted in an aversion toward surgical extraction. To understand the current mindset among Indians, we aimed to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practices (KAP) of the Indian subpopulation toward third molar impactions, their associated complications, and management. Materials and methods A total of 716 participants from the outpatient department of a dental college completed a structured questionnaire-

INTRODUCTION: Impacted anterior teeth are common, with sequalae including root resorption of adjacent or nearby teeth. Management depends on patient- and tooth-specific factors; however, in cases of severe resorption, elective tooth loss may be favoured. This case discusses an aesthetic solution to disimpaction of an anterior tooth, involving multidisciplinary input.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A girl aged 13 years 10 months presented to an orthodontic department, complaining of missing teeth and poor dental aesthetics.
CLINICAL FINDINGS: Class II division 1 incisor relationship on a Class I skeletal

INTRODUCTION: Mandibular third molars are the most frequently impacted teeth. The proximity of impacted third molars to the inferior alveolar canal requires particular consideration during extraction. Hence, we aimed to compare the diagnostic accuracy of CBCT and OPG using radiographic signs of Rood and Shebab's and find out the risk of mandibular nerve injury.
METHODS: A prospective study was conducted in 50 subjects. All patients underwent digital OPG evaluation based on Winter's classification of impacted teeth and Rood and Shehab's classification of seven radiographic signs. Cases with an

CONTEXT: The molar-angle-ramus region of the mandible is a frequent site for a diverse spectrum of pathologies, ranging from benign cysts and tumours to aggressive malignancies, each exhibiting varying degrees of destructive potential. Majority of these pathologies are indistinguishable solely based on radiological features, posing a diagnostic challenge. A precise diagnosis necessitates an integrated approach combining radiographic assessment with histopathological correlation.
AIMS: This study aims to analyse the prevalence, radiographic characteristics, and histopathological correlation of
