Radiographic Evaluation of Impacted and Transmigrant Canines: Prevalence and Sex-Based Differences in an Orthodontic Cohort.

Background/Objectives: Impacted teeth are characterized by having more than three-quarters of root development completed, however failing to erupt or demonstrate imminent eruption, as evidenced both by clinical and radiographic evaluation. Canine impaction is an entity of clinical significance considering its potential to affect both oral function and facial aesthetics. If not appropriately managed, this condition may adversely impact functional occlusion and structural smile integrity. The purpose of the study was to investigate the prevalence of impacted and transmigrant canines in a Greek o

Orthodontic management of a patient with an impacted maxillary canine associated with severe palatal root dilaceration of the adjacent first premolar.

The incidence of maxillary canine impaction is estimated at approximately 1.7% of the population and is multifactorial in etiology. Several case reports suggest a potential relationship between canine impaction and root dilaceration of the adjacent premolar, indicating mechanical interference due to their proximity. In such cases, when avoiding tooth extractions is desired, it is crucial to consider specific clinical approaches to prevent contact with the dilacerated root during traction. This case report describes traction of an impacted maxillary canine in a female patient resulting from sev

Influence of linear and angular parameters on lower third molar retention: the role of space allocation and transpalatal width.

BACKGROUND: The mandibular third molars are the most frequently impacted teeth, followed by their maxillary counterparts and the upper canines. Their retention is influenced by several anatomical and developmental factors, including limited retromolar space, unfavorable angulation, and eruption trajectory-each critical for proper emergence. OBJECTIVE: This study examines the association between the eruption or impaction of mandibular third molars and variables such as eruption space, transpalatal width, and eruption angulation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Seventy-one mandibular third molars were

Force decay of orthodontic power chains during five weeks in artificial saliva: An in vitro study.

UNLABELLED: Orthodontists frequently use elastomeric chains for space closure and incisor retraction, though these chains are prone to force degradation and permanent deformation over time. Initially introduced in the early 20th century, elastic power chains became more widely adopted in orthodontic practice in the 1960s due to industrial advancements. There are three main types of elastomeric chains: closed (continuous), open (short), and long (broad), available in various colors such as clear and black. Elastomeric chains generate forces for several orthodontic applications, including tracti

Traumatic characteristics and trauma-specific management of the third molars involved in mandibular angle fractures.

BACKGROUND: There is a close relationship between the third molars and mandibular angle fractures. Previous studies focused more on the influence of third molars on the healing of mandibular angle fractures than on the damage condition of the third molars themselves. The aim of this study was to investigate and classify the traumatic characteristics of third molars involved in mandibular angle fractures, and to evaluate the prognostic impact of a stratified trauma-specific management strategy on postoperative outcomes. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the patients presenting
