Site-stratified global oral Helicobacter pylori prevalence: an updated meta-analysis of dental plaque and saliva studies (1989-2026).

BACKGROUND: The oral cavity is a proposed extra-gastric reservoir of Helicobacter pylori, but site-stratified oral prevalence has not been updated since the 2025 dental-plaque synthesis of Anand et al., and 2024-2026 evidence remains unincorporated. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We pooled oral H. pylori prevalence by site from 53 site-observations (49 unique study cohorts; 6,247 participants; 24 countries; 1989-2026): 33 plaque site-observations from Anand et al. (2025) plus 20 site-observations from our independent update, each verified at the abstract or full-text level. Random-effects (DerSimonia

AI-Driven Feedback on Bitewing Radiographic Technique: A Comparative Study of Large Language Models.

INTRODUCTION: Large language models (LLMs) can enhance learning engagement and accessibility, though their performance in dentistry is inconsistent. Bitewing radiographs are critical for caries detection but prone to diagnostic errors from operator positioning. This study compared the performance of four LLMs with reasoning capabilities, GPT o1, GPT o3-mini, Gemini 2.0 Flash and Grok 3, in generating scenario-specific educational feedback from a structured textual format of bitewing radiographs. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ten positioning error scenarios were created by DMFR specialists. LLMs were

SLC4A9 deficiency is involved in Sjögren's syndrome and enamel defects through RPS27-triggered ribosomal stress.

Xerostomia, a salivary gland disorder affecting up to 30% of adults, compromises oral homeostasis by reducing salivary flow and buffering capacity. Amelogenesis imperfecta is a hereditary condition characterized by defective enamel formation and mineralization, with a prevalence ranging from 1 in 700 to 1 in 14,000 children worldwide. Although xerostomia has been associated with increased susceptibility to dental caries and subsequent enamel damage, its relationship with amelogenesis imperfecta remains unclear, and no shared molecular pathway has been causally linked to both hyposalivation and

Dens invaginatus: a review and case series.

Dens invaginatus is a dental anomaly resulting in an abnormal tooth morphology, most commonly affecting the permanent dentition. An associated infolding of the outer enamel organ results in structural pocketing and increased susceptibility to dental disease. Clinical sequalae of affected teeth may include dental caries, pulpal pathology, devitalisation, discolouration, localised periodontal pocketing or increased tooth mobility. Early diagnosis is therefore essential in the delivery of effective prevention and informed treatment planning. Clinicians should be aware of the diverse clinical and

Oral Health and Drug Use Among People Experiencing Homelessness: A Community-Based Cross-Sectional Study.

INTRODUCTION: The health vulnerability that homeless individuals encounter, in which poor nutrition, irregular hygiene behaviours, social exclusion, and limited access to preventive dental care converge with high rates of substance use, is a major factor in the acceleration of oral disease progression. Xerostomia, bruxism, poor diet, delayed care-seeking, and trauma are other ways that drug use exacerbates oral health issues, but the extent to which these interactions occur in the homeless population is not well quantified in low- and middle-income countries. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study

Comparison of treatment time and patient-reported outcomes between erythritol powder air-polishing and rubber cup polishing: a randomized crossover clinical trial.

Professional mechanical plaque removal (PMPR) is essential for the prevention of dental caries and periodontal diseases. Erythritol powder air polishing (EPAP) has recently gained attention as an alternative to conventional rubber cup polishing (RC); however, evidence regarding patient-reported outcomes (PROs), particularly using the cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC)-containing erythritol formulation available in Japan, remains limited. This randomized, single-center, two-period crossover clinical trial compared EPAP with RC in systemically healthy adults. Twenty-one participants received both in

Leviathan: fast, memory-efficient, and scalable taxonomic and pathway profiling for (pan)genome-resolved metagenomics and metatranscriptomics.

Functional profiling of meta-omics is essential for understanding microbial communities, yet support for custom genome-resolved reference databases is limited. We introduce Leviathan for integrated taxonomic and functional profiling at both genome and pangenome resolution. Leviathan combines Sylph for ultrafast alignment-free taxonomic profiling with Salmon for pseudo-alignment-based read quantification in DNA space against (pan)genome-resolved gene catalogs, producing dual metrics per (pan)genome: pathway abundance and graph-based pathway coverage. Benchmarking alignment backends on synthetic
