A bio-based superhydrophobic pit and fissure sealant for enhanced stability and anticaries application.

Dental caries is one of the most prevalent chronic diseases worldwide, with most lesions occurring in occlusal pits and fissures. To prevent occlusal caries, pit and fissure sealants are considered one of the most effective measures. However, their anticaries effect are often compromised by secondary caries resulting from biofilm accumulation. Furthermore, traditional sealants based on bisphenol A glycidyl methacrylate (Bis-GMA) may release bisphenol A (BPA), raising concerns about potential endocrine disruption. In this study, we developed a bio-based superhydrophobic pit and fissure sealant

Synergistic pairing of Lactobacillus helveticus Stellar Lh-170 and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum Stellar Lp-199 suppresses Streptococcus mutans and disrupts cariogenic biofilms.

BACKGROUND: Streptococcus mutans exists within a biofilm ecosystem where neighboring microbes influence each other's viability. Probiotic strains with complementary antagonistic properties may enhance suppression beyond individual strains. An evaluation of probiotic combinations assessed synergistic biofilm and pathogen suppression. METHODS: Nineteen probiotic strains were screened for hydrogen peroxide production and antagonism of Streptococcus mutans; five candidates were further tested in two-strain combinations for synergistic antagonism of S. mutans and hydroxyapatite adhesion. Comprehensive dental management of odontogenic infection and ankyloglossia under general anaesthesia in a medically complex child with intellectual disability.

Children with intellectual disability often experience difficulties in accessing routine dental care because behavioural limitations and associated medical conditions make treatment challenging. Untreated dental infections in such patients may pose significant health risks, particularly when systemic conditions are present. A child in middle childhood with moderate intellectual disability presented with pain and progressive swelling in the right posterior mandibular region. The patient was non-verbal and had underlying cardiac dysfunction and encephalopathy, which further complicated clinical

A white-light endoscopy-based mixed-effects nomogram for predicting small colorectal polyp neoplasia in resource-limited settings.

BACKGROUND: Carbonic anhydrase VI (CA VI) is crucial in regulating oral pH and predicting susceptibility to dental caries. The hypothesis posits that caries activity may alter the CA VI function, diminishing its capacity to regulate pH effectively and potentially exacerbating cariogenic challenges. This 1-year cohort study sought to investigate the enzymatic activity of salivary CA VI and buffering capacity following a 20% sucrose rinse in 4 to 6.5-year-old children. METHOD: This research involved 46 volunteers categorized into three groups based on their caries status after follow-up: caries
