INTRODUCTION: This study evaluated the remodeling patterns of point A (subspinale) and the maxillary alveolar bone after premolar-extraction decompensation in patients with skeletal Class III malocclusion.
METHODS: Cone-beam computed tomography data from 40 patients with skeletal Class III malocclusion were collected before and after presurgical decompensation (pre-DC and post-DC). A 3-dimensional cephalometric analysis was used to evaluate dentoskeletal changes. Surface-based registration and voxel-based analysis were used to assess anterior maxillary displacement. The root length, alveolar

Acanthomatous ameloblastoma is an uncommon histopathological variant of ameloblastoma characterised by extensive squamous metaplasia and keratin formation within odontogenic epithelial islands. It predominantly affects adults between 30 and 60 years of age and most commonly occurs in the posterior mandible; involvement of the anterior maxilla is rare. A 55-year-old man presented with a progressively enlarging swelling in the anterior maxilla accompanied by pain during mastication. Intraoral examination revealed a diffuse swelling that crossed the midline, involved the labial vestibule, and cau

BACKGROUND: Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is widely used for caries arrest in pediatric dentistry; however, histologic evidence with larger samples regarding its effects on the dentin-pulp complex in teeth remains limited.
METHODS: This ex vivo observational study included 35 carious primary teeth treated clinically with 38% SDF and extracted 6 months later. Histologic analysis was performed to assess silver penetration depth, dentinal tubule occlusion, tertiary dentin formation, pulpal response, and bacterial presence. Penetration depth was measured using digital image analysis software. Sta

BACKGROUND: Alveolar ridge resorption following tooth extraction can compromise subsequent implant placement. Socket preservation techniques aim to minimize dimensional changes and promote favorable bone healing. Chitosan nanoparticles combined with titanium-prepared platelet-rich fibrin represent a biologically active approach to ridge preservation.

Ridge resorption following tooth loss may limit ideal three-dimensional implant placement. The alveolar ridge split technique (ARST) is used for horizontal ridge augmentation and may permit simultaneous implant placement in selected narrow ridges. This case series aimed to assess horizontal bone gain following ARST with simultaneous implant placement and evaluate short-term ridge stability one year after loading. Three systemically healthy patients presenting with maxillary horizontal bone width of less than 6 mm were included. All underwent ARST using piezosurgery and chisels with simultaneou

BACKGROUND: Alveolar ridge resorption following tooth extraction is a common clinical challenge that can compromise esthetics, implant placement, and prosthetic rehabilitation. Digital customization of bone block allografts offers precise adaptation to the recipient site, improving graft stability and reducing surgical time. Enamel matrix derivative (EMD) has demonstrated potential to enhance osteogenic differentiation and cell adhesion; however, its application in combination with digitally customized bone block allografts (DCBBAs) remains scarcely reported. This study aimed to evaluate, bone

Severe luxative injuries not only put the dental pulp at peril, but also the periodontal ligament (PDL), often resulting in an inflammatory process on the external root surface. By losing the protection of the PDL, the tooth is prone to ankylosis and replacement resorption. In adults, such teeth might be monitored or replaced. Nevertheless, in growing individuals an un-aesthetic alveolar ridge deformity and tilting of adjacent teeth due to infraposition might be the sequelae of trauma. Hence, leaving such cases untreated in children and growing individuals is not an option. Nowadays, an arsena

Delayed tooth eruption is a hallmark of cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD) caused by RUNX2 haploinsufficiency, yet the underlying molecular mechanism remains undefined. Here, we show that RUNX2 regulates osteoclast-mediated alveolar bone remodeling, a process closely associated with tooth eruption. Runx2+/- mice exhibit impaired osteoclast differentiation and reduced alveolar bone resorption, resulting in delayed mandibular molar eruption-a phenotype that recapitulates human CCD. Mechanistically, RUNX2 transcriptionally activates LncRNA-ROD (Regulator of Osteoclast Differentiation), which promotes

Diphyodonty (the presence of two generations of teeth) characterizes extant mammals and has long been regarded as pivotal to the evolution of other mammalian traits, including precise occlusion and determinate growth. Nevertheless, our understanding of the pattern of dental replacement in Mesozoic mammals is incomplete. Here, we report a nearly complete skeleton of an Early Cretaceous eutriconodontan that is the only mammal to our knowledge that appears to have multiple generations (polyphyodonty) at some loci in the four tooth types. In the auditory apparatus, its ossified Meckel's cartilage

External cervical resorption is a disease entity with an idiopathic etiology by which osteoclastic invasion cavitates teeth near the cementoenamel junction. The lesion, if left untreated, has the potential to progress and compromise tooth maintainability. Treatment of these lesions requires access (often surgical), removal of the affected tissue, and placement of a restorative material. This case series documents 10 external cervical resorption lesions that were treated by surgical crown lengthening with concurrent placement of a resin-modified glass-ionomer restoration and followed up for a p

This study evaluated the efficacy of alveolar ridge preservation (ARP) for pontic site development following nonmolar maxillary tooth extraction vs unassisted socket healing (USH). CBCT was employed to measure preextraction facial bone thickness (FBT). An ideal pontic was digitally predesigned according to the characteristics of the site before tooth extraction (baseline), which was captured with a surface scanner. Postextraction pontic modifications were analyzed by superimposing baseline and final scans. Additionally, changes in alveolar ridge width, the presence of a buccal soft tissue conc

OBJECTIVES: External root resorption is a destructive process that usually develops without any symptoms and, when diagnosed, can lead to tooth extraction because it causes serious tooth tissue loss. Therefore, it is aimed to develop artificial intelligence algorithms that can assist in the diagnosis of external root resorption.
METHODS: Totally, 110 extracted teeth were demineralized by applying 40% nitric acid solution for 8 hours, 8% sodium hypochlorite for 10 minutes, and then a distilled water washing procedure. The prepared teeth were placed on a radioconjugate phantom model and imaged.

Orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) involves the application of mechanical forces, leading to bone remodeling through a coordinated immune response. This process comprises four stages-initial, lag, acceleration, and retention-each characterized by specific immune mechanisms involving cytokines, immune cells, and signaling pathways. Inflammatory mediators, such as interleukin (IL)-1β and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), initiate bone resorption, while regulatory cytokines like IL-10 promote tissue repair. The nuclear factor kappa-B ligand (RANKL)/osteoprotegerin (OPG) balance regulates osteocl

BACKGROUND: This study evaluated the stress distribution in maxillary incisors with internal resorption (IR) filled with various root canal filling materials using finite element analysis (FEA). METHODS: A three-dimensional model of the maxillary central incisor was generated by scanning. Twenty-seven models were created using different materials to fill the IR area in the apical, middle, and coronal third of the teeth. The root canals of the IR defect models were filled with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA), Biodentine, bioceramic sealer (BCS), gutta percha (GP), or their combinations. FEA wa

Osteocytes regulate bone remodeling by interacting with osteoblasts and osteoclasts. Hypoxia influences osteocyte function and has been linked to increased osteoclastogenesis in pathological conditions such as orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) and bone metabolic diseases; however, the molecular mechanisms underlying these effects remain unclear. This study aimed to identify hypoxia-responsive genes in osteocytes and investigate their effects on osteoclastogenesis. Transcriptome analysis of murine long bone osteocyte-Y4 (MLO-Y4) osteocytes cultured under hypoxia (2% O2) revealed that lipocalin-2

Orthodontically induced inflammatory root resorption (OIIRR) is one of the most severe and common complications associated with clinical orthodontic treatment. With the widespread application of new technologies such as cone-beam computed tomography in clinical dental practice, a significant number of root resorption cases have been detected. Therefore, it is particularly important to effectively avoid and control root resorption during clinical treatment. However, the specific molecular biological mechanisms underlying OIIRR have not been fully elucidated, and there are currently no effective
