Traumatic Dental Injuries as a Potential Predisposing Factor for Invasive Cervical Resorption: A Systematic Review.

Invasive cervical resorption is a clinically challenging and often silent form of external root resorption that may remain undetected until substantial structural damage has occurred. Although traumatic dental injuries are repeatedly cited as potential predisposing factors, the strength, consistency, and clinical meaning of this association have not been critically established. This systematic review synthesized the available clinical evidence on the relationship between traumatic dental injuries and invasive cervical resorption, with emphasis on trauma history, diagnostic methods, associated

Selective Dual Apical Surgery for Adjacent Immature and Mature Upper Incisors With a Large Periapical Lesion: A 4-Year Follow-Up Case Report.

Conservative dual apical surgery without conventional orthograde root canal treatment, as well as root-end resection/preparation/filing/sealing, can successfully manage large periapical lesions involving adjacent immature and mature teeth. This hypothesis-generating observation suggests bioactive root-end filling may reduce treatment burden in carefully selected cases, but further studies are needed.

Effectiveness of platelet concentrates, corticotomy, and piezocision as adjuncts for accelerating maxillary canine retraction: a systematic review of randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND: Maxillary canine retraction following premolar extraction is a time-consuming phase of orthodontic treatment. Various adjunctive methods, including platelet concentrates, corticotomy, and piezocision, have been proposed to accelerate tooth movement; however, their relative effectiveness and safety remain unclear. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of platelet concentrates, corticotomy, and piezocision as adjuncts to maxillary canine retraction after premolar extraction. METHODS: PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, and Cochrane CENTRAL were searched from inception to April 30

Photobiomodulation therapy and Wnt/β-catenin signaling in periodontal ligament stem cells during orthodontic tooth movement: A hypothesis and literature review.

Orthodontic treatment usually takes 18 to 36 months that can lead to time-dependent side effects (like caries and root resorption). Hence, there is growing interest in safely accelerating orthodontic tooth movement (OTM). Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) has been proposed as a non-invasive approach to accelerate OTM, but clinical findings are inconsistent. Discrepancies may be due to irradiation protocols (light source, wavelength, energy density, exposure time), the orthodontic stage at which PBMT is applied, and the appliance used. A common component across these settings is the periodontal

Columbianadin promotes osteoblast differentiation by modulating the SIRT1/β-catenin pathway in periodontitis and orthodontic tooth movement-induced rats.

Periodontitis (PD), a common inflammatory disorder causing irreversible periodontal degradation, is linked to systemic issues. Orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) in the context of PD worsens bone loss, which severely compromises orthodontic treatment stability and increases the risk of treatment failure. This study aims to thoroughly investigate the protective effects of Columbianadin (CBN) against PD/OTM-induced alveolar bone injury and dissect its underlying molecular mechanisms. To induce osteogenic differentiation, MC3T3-E1 cells were maintained in a specialized osteogenic induction medium s

Association between root resorption severity and alveolar bone loss after fixed orthodontic treatment: A tooth-based radiographic study.

INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to assess whether the severity of orthodontically induced inflammatory root resorption (OIIRR) and alveolar bone loss follows a parallel pattern during orthodontic treatment. METHODS: This retrospective study included 62 patients treated with standardized 0.022-in McLaughlin, Bennett, and Trevisi fixed appliances and nonextraction protocols. Patients were divided into 2 groups based on the presence (group 1, n = 31) or absence (group 2, n = 31) of posttreatment root resorption. In both groups, mesial and distal alveolar bone levels were measured on panoramic rad

CBCT features of florid cemento-osseous dysplasia with coexisting lesions at different maturation stages: a case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Florid cemento-osseous dysplasia (FLCOD) is a begin fibro-osseous lesion occurring in the tooth-bearing regions of the jaws and is characterized by replacement of normal bone with fibrous connective tissue and cementum-like mineralized material. Most patients are asymptomatic and are diagnosed incidentally during radiographic examinations, and the condition may be misdiagnosed because of overlapping imaging features with other jaw lesions. Because the disease is usually asymptomatic and exhibits imaging features that overlap with those of several odontogenic and inflammatory lesion

External Root Resorption: Unique Cone Beam Computed Tomography Findings of a Rare Radiographic Entity.

External root resorption occurs as a physiological or pathological process following pulpal necrosis. It ensues due to a traumatic insult to the pulp from underlying mechanical and chemical stimuli. The mechanical stimuli that favour external resorption include excessive orthodontic forces generated during orthodontic tooth movement, abnormal occlusal forces of mastication caused by traumatic occlusion, pressure effects caused by underlying impacted teeth, and odontogenic cysts and tumours. External resorption can also result from chemical stimuli such as bleaching, extruded filling materials,

Effect of FMOD on Orthodontic Tooth Movement and Associated Root Resorption.

BACKGROUND: Orthodontic tooth movement is a complex biologically driven process of asynchronous bone remodeling. Fibromodulin (FMOD), a small leucine-rich proteoglycan, participates in periodontal tissue remodeling and root resorption. This study aimed to determine the effects of FMOD on orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) and orthodontically induced root resorption (OIRR) in rats. METHODS: Male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomized into three groups: control, model, and model + FMOD. OTM was induced in the model and FMOD treatment groups by applying 100 g of orthodontic force to the maxillar

[Autotransplantation of incompletely formed molars in young patients].

Autotransplantation of molars is a valuable treatment option for tooth replacement in adolescents. In a retrospective analysis of 13 young patients, 17 molars were transplanted, with an average follow-up of 16 months. Root formation was 60-90% at the time of transplantation, and the apex was not yet fully formed. Primarily, (3rd) maxillary molars were transplanted into the mandible. All transplanted molars integrated physiologically, without ankylosis or need for endodontic treatment. One case of limited, non-progressive resorption was observed. None of the teeth showed deepened pockets or per

Biomechanical behavior of endocrowns in primary molars at different root resorption stages: A 3D finite element analysis.

This study investigated stress distribution in endocrown-restored primary molars during physiological root resorption using three-dimensional finite element analysis. Mandibular first primary molars were modeled at three resorption stages: no resorption, one-third resorption, and one-half resorption. Each model was restored with resin nanoceramic or lithium disilicate endocrowns. Vertical and oblique loads were applied. Von Mises stress and maximum principal stress were analyzed in the endocrown, adhesive layer, and residual tooth structure. The stress distribution was influenced by the materi

Successful Nonsurgical Resolution of a Large Periapical Lesion With Pre-Existing Sealer Extrusion and Adjacent External Inflammatory Root Resorption: A Case Report.

The primary aim of root canal treatment is to eliminate intracanal infection, achieve an apical and coronal seal, and create conditions that allow repair of the periapical tissues. In root-filled teeth, persistent apical periodontitis may be associated with extensive periapical lesions, external inflammatory root resorption affecting the treated or adjacent teeth, and extrusion of endodontic materials. These complications may lead clinicians to consider surgical approaches. However, when canals are adequately cleaned, disinfected, and hermetically obturated, favorable healing may occur followi
