The effectiveness of novel remineralising agents in white spot lesion treatment after microabrasion.

BACKGROUND: In clinical practice, microabrasion and remineralising agents, or their combinations, could be effective for white spot lesions (WSL) treatment. This study evaluates the effectiveness of four treatments, including two novel remineralising agents, nanohydroxyapatite (nanoHAP) and calcium glycerophosphate (CaGP) in combination with/without microabrasion on WSL. METHODS: Artificially created WSL on human enamels were randomly divided into nine groups according to treatments: (1) Group FV/fluoride varnish (Bifluoride 10); (2) Group NanoHAP/nanohydroxyapatite gel (Biodent); (3) Group Ca

The smallest tetrapod from the Middle Triassic of South America: a new procolophonoid parareptile from the Ladinian of Southern Brazil.

The Middle Triassic fossil record of South American parareptiles is scarce, with only a few procolophonoid specimens known. Here, we describe Sauropia macrorhinus gen. et sp. nov., a procolophonoid from the Ladinian (Pinheiros-Chiniquá Sequence of the Santa Maria Supersequence) of southern Brazil. The holotype, a nearly complete skull measuring only 9.5 mm in length, represents the smallest tetrapod known from these deposits. Its unique combination of features includes a proportionally large external naris, slender dorsal ramus of the maxilla, broad interorbital space, and three premaxillary t

Effects of bleaching agents containing nano-hydroxyapatite on sound and demineralized enamel: an in vitro study.

This in vitro study aimed to evaluate the effects of office and home bleaching agents containing nano-hydroxyapatite (n-HAP) on the surface roughness, microhardness, and micromorphology of sound and demineralized enamel. A total of 120 enamel specimens were obtained from extracted human third molars, half of which underwent a demineralization cycle to simulate initial enamel demineralization. The specimens were divided into five subgroups (n = 12) based on the bleaching agent applied: no bleaching (control), 40% hydrogen peroxide (HP), 16% carbamide peroxide (CP), 40% HP + n-HAP, and 6% HP + n

Acetoacetate-preconditioned adipose stem cells promote burn wound healing through enhanced cellular retention and paracrine signaling.

BACKGROUND: In this study, we preconditioned human adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) with acetoacetate (AcAc) and explored whether it could improve cell survival and enhance the tissue regeneration of chemical burns in mice. METHODS: To evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of AcAc, human ADSCs were preconditioned with 10 mM AcAc (AcAc-hADSCs). Cell proliferation, migration, paracrine release of growth factors, and proangiogenic effects of AcAc-hADSCs were subsequently assessed. Subsequently, HCl acid burns were induced on the dorsal skin of ICR mice, and wound healing progression was monitored

The Enamel Matrix Protein Amelogenin is Essential for Enamel Mineral Transport and Deposition.

Amelogenin, the primary protein of the enamel matrix, has long been implicated in regulating crystal nucleation, growth, and spatial organization during tooth development. This study investigates how the absence of amelogenin affects enamel structure and mineralization. Using amelogenin knockout mice, we examine its role in maintaining enamel integrity, modulating ameloblast vesicle dynamics, and facilitating calcium ion transport through specific channels to the enamel surface. The goal is to uncover the mechanistic contributions of amelogenin to enamel biomineralization and its broader impli

3D-printed PCL scaffolds functionalized with GelMA for sustained delivery of human dental follicle stem cell-derived conditioned medium in bone regeneration.

Repairing large segmental bone defects remains a significant clinical challenge due to the limited self-healing capacity of bone tissue. Although autologous bone grafting is still the clinical standard, it is limited by donor-site complications and availability. Three-dimensional (3D) printed scaffolds offer customizable architectures but often lack bioactivity. Human dental follicle stem cell-derived conditioned medium (hDFSC-CM) is enriched in osteogenic factors but suffers from rapid clearance at defect sites. Here, we engineered a bioactive composite scaffold by integrating a 3D-printed po

Milling Parameters and Quality of Machined Surface of Wire Arc Additive Manufactured AISI 321 Steel.

Due to the unique microstructure and mechanical heterogeneity of austenitic stainless steel made via wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM), its machinability differs significantly from that of rolled material. Accordingly, this study systematically investigates the influence of milling strategies on key process responses (cutting forces, surface roughness, vibration displacement, and temperature) to reveal the mechanisms of machining parameters during the milling of WAAM-fabricated austenitic stainless steel. The material used in this study is ER321 austenitic stainless steel. During depositi

Estradiol replacement attenuates alendronate-associated adverse effects on alveolar bone repair in ovariectomized rats.

BACKGROUND: Sodium alendronate (ALN) is widely used to treat postmenopausal osteoporosis, but both estrogen deficiency and antiresorptive therapy may impair alveolar bone repair after tooth extraction. A clinically relevant but insufficiently explored scenario involves estrogen-deficient individuals receiving hormone replacement therapy (HRT) who subsequently initiate ALN treatment. This study investigated whether estradiol valerate (E) replacement attenuates ALN-associated disturbances in alveolar bone repair in ovariectomized (OVX) rats. METHODS: Sixty-three female Wistar rats were divided

Innovative synergy of bone xenograft and quercetin in the alveolar bone socket: Histological and immunohistochemical assessment of healing.

BACKGROUND: After an extraction, the alveolar bone may undergo shrinkage, making it more challenging to place dental implants and compromising the appearance of prosthetic rehabilitation. Studies show that alveolar bone resorption could reach 50% of the original ridge width within the first six months after extraction. Xenografts have shown promising outcomes because they are biocompatible, resemble human bone, and facilitate the growth of new bone. Xenografts, on the other hand, are mostly used as a scaffold for new bone to grow on and don't cause bone growth on their own. Because of this, th

Regulation of Biomineralization via Protein Assembling Scaffolds.

Biomineralization is a biological process through which organisms produce mineralized structures to improve their adaptation to environmental challenges. In nature, biomineralization primarily contributes to the formation of hard tissues such as teeth and bone. This process is remarkably complex and involves the self-assembly of proteins into scaffolds that play critical regulatory roles. For instance, collagen molecules self-assemble into fibrils, and their unique quarter-staggered arrangement provides both a spatial template and a defined chemical microenvironment for the nucleation and grow

Delayed endodontic management of traumatically exposed immature maxillary anterior teeth: a case series.

BACKGROUND: Traumatic dental injuries are a leading cause of pulpal exposure in immature permanent anterior teeth. Vital pulp therapy (VPT), particularly pulpotomy, has become the preferred treatment modality in such cases as it maintains pulp function, supports physiologic dentin deposition, and promotes long-term tooth retention. However, treatment delays may compromise clinical outcomes due to bacterial contamination and progressive pulpal inflammation. Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and Biodentine™, both hydraulic calcium silicate cements, have demonstrated favorable biological responses
