Comparative Analysis of the Proteomic Profile of the Dental Pulp in Different Conditions. A Pilot Study.

This study aimed to quantitatively compare the difference in protein expression in the progression of pulp pathogenesis, as well as to describe the biological functions of proteins identified in pulp tissue. Samples were obtained from six patients treated at the Araçatuba School of Dentistry and were divided into three groups: normal pulp - from teeth extracted for orthodontic indication; inflamed pulp and necrotic pulp - from patients diagnosed with irreversible pulpitis and chronic apical periodontitis, respectively. After previous proteomic preparation, dental pulp samples were processed fo

Non-surgical management of an extraoral cutaneous sinus tract of odontogenic origin.

Chronic apical periodontitis associated with dental pulp necrosis is the main cause of odontogenic extraoral cutaneous sinus openings. These tracts are often initially misdiagnosed unless the treating clinician considers a dental aetiology. This case report of a 19-year-old woman describes the diagnosis and treatment of an extraoral cutaneous sinus tract of odontogenic origin. Non-surgical conservative endodontic therapy was opted as the involved teeth were restorable. One month after the completion of obturation, there was closure of the sinus tract. One year follow-up showed complete resolut

miR-200a contributes to the migration of BMSCs induced by the secretions of E. faecalis via FOXJ1/NFκB/MMPs axis.

BACKGROUND: Upon migrating to the injured sites, bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) play critical roles in the repair of bone lesion caused by chronic apical periodontitis. Emerging evidences have shown that Enterococcus faecalis is always associated with apical periodontitis, especially refractory apical periodontitis. But the mechanism underlying how Enterococcus faecalis affects the migration of BMSCs remains unclear. METHODS: The effects of Enterococcus faecalis supernatants on the migration of BMSCs were determined by transwell migration assays. miRNA sequencing was performed to

Endodontic approach in a replanted tooth with an immature root apex and chronic apical periodontitis: a case report.

This study describes the clinical steps taken in the treatment of a patient who had an avulsed right upper central incisor that presented with incomplete root development and chronic apical periodontitis. A 7-year-old boy was referred from a private dentist to a dental office specializing in endodontics. The tooth had remained in a dry environment for 20 minutes, and tooth replantation was performed at an emergency appointment. After clinical and radiographic examinations, root canal decontamination was performed, followed by several changes in intracanal calcium hydroxide medication. Blood cl

Idiopathic Bone Cavity: Clinicopathologic Features from a Case Series with Emphasis on Differential Diagnosis of Chronic Apical Periodontitis.

INTRODUCTION: Idiopathic bone cavity (IBC) is an uncommon bone lesion that usually affects youngsters as an unilocular radiolucency with predilection for the posterior mandible. Because the lesion is frequently located in proximity to the adjacent teeth, chronic apical periodontitis is commonly included as a differential diagnosis. The aim of the present study was to analyze the clinical and radiologic features of a series of IBCs diagnosed in a single service. METHODS: All cases diagnosed as IBC were retrieved from the files of an oral pathology laboratory, and the clinical and radiologic ch

The influence of apical periodontitis on the concentration of inflammatory mediators in peripheral blood plasma and the metagenomic profiling of endodontic infections: Study design and protocol.

UNLABELLED: Increased systemic inflammation has been identified in presence of oral disease, specifically endodontic disease. It is important to investigate whether treatment of the oral disease ameliorates systemic inflammation. Furthermore, there is no information about the extent to which different microorganisms may trigger inflammatory response. OBJECTIVES: Primarily (i) to compare the plasma concentrations of inflammatory mediators of apical periodontitis (AP) subjects to controls, (ii) to evaluate whether elimination of the endodontic infection reduces systemic inflammation (iii) to in

Endothelial Dysfunction Marker Variation in Young Adults with Chronic Apical Periodontitis before and after Endodontic Treatment.

INTRODUCTION: Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of mortality worldwide. Apical periodontitis (AP) has been associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. A correlation has been shown between chronic AP and endothelial dysfunction (ED), but there is no evidence to indicate ED improves after endodontic treatment in patients with periapical lesions. The aim of this study was to investigate vascular and molecular markers of early ED before and after root canal treatment in young adults with chronic AP. METHODS: Twenty control subjects and 21 patients with AP were assess

Endodontic Retreatment of Maxillary Second Molar with Four Roots.

The present communication describes the endodontic retreatment of a rare four-rooted maxillary second molar. A 25-year-old patient was referred to our dental practice requesting an apicoectomy because of continuous and permanent pain reaction six months after the first endodontic treatment. The sent radiograph demonstrated three filled root canals (one mesial, two distal) and four radiographically superimposing roots (two mesial, two distal). Due to the diagnosed chronic apical periodontitis and based on the visible untreated root canal, we decided to endodontically re-treat the quadrangular t

East java extract propolis as potential intracanal medicament in experimentally induced chronic apical periodontitis.

INTRODUCTION: A persistent infection after cleaning and shaping root canal is the main etiology of root canal treatment failure. Enterococcus faecalis has been considered as one of the most resistant species in root canal treatment. E. faecalis can stimulate receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappa B ligand (RANKL) which can increase nuclear factor of activated T-cell (NFATc1) in chronic apical periodontitis. East Java propolis has antibacterial effects and is biocompatible with in vitro effects. AIM: This study is aimed to analyze the East Java propolis extract as potential intracanal medi

Role of the Btk-PLCγ2 Signaling Pathway in the Bone Destruction of Apical Periodontitis.

Chronic apical periodontitis is characterized by alveolar bone absorption in the apical region and is the result of the participation of various inflammatory mediators. Studies have shown that the Bruton tyrosine kinase- (Btk-) phospholipase Cγ2 (PLCγ2) signaling pathway plays an important role in bone absorption, but it is unknown whether it plays a role in apical periodontitis bone destruction. Therefore, this study verified the role of Btk and PLCγ2 in bone resorption of apical periodontitis by in vivo and in vitro experiments. In the in vivo experiment, a mice model of apical periodontitis
