The incidence of radicular cysts in 125 chronic periapical lesions was studied in 36 cases of periapical surgery (28.8%), and to 89 tooth extractions (71.2%). Histopathology revealed 18 radicular cysts (14.4%) and 107 lesions corresponding to chronic apical periodontitis (C.A.P.) or granulomas (85.6%). Cholesterol clefts, a fibrous capsule and presence of a cavity were more common in the cysts, significant differences being observed with respect to chronic apical periodontitis.

The efficacy of conservative treatment of chronic apical periodontitis is compared is somatic patients and somatically healthy subjects. Twenty-seven patients with chronic obstructive bronchitis and secondary immune insufficiency and 31 patients without underlying diseases were treated. Conservative treatment of chronic apical periodontitis was insufficient in the patients with secondary immunodeficiency.

The objective of the present study was to investigate the incidence, clinical findings, diagnosis and treatment of evaginated teeth with pulpal involvement. Five hundred and three cases requiring endodontically treated premolars were studied at Kaohsiung Medical College Hospital. Roots with and without preoperative chronic apical periodontitis were root canal treated and followed clinically and radiographically yearly for up to 4 years. Root canal samples, taken from periapical tissue exudates during routine root canal treatment procedures, were processed for identification of tumor necrosis factor using a mouse anti-human monoclonal antibody and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The results of one year control-examination of the single visit endodontic therapy of chronic apical lesions are presented. Clinical and radiographic control examinations were performed on 40 of 58 treated single and double root canal teeth from both jaws. Eighty percent of treated teeth was found to be successful. An apexification procedure is performed on a maxillary left central incisor tooth of a fourteen years old girl who has chronic apical periodontitis and undergoing active orthodontic treatment. After a one-year clinical and radiological follow-up, formation of apical closure is observed. As a result, apexification can be suggested as a successful treatment procedure in such cases.
