OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to clarify the perceptibility of periapical foreign materials in imaging compared with histopathology. We hypothesized that dentoalveolar imaging is sufficient to detect periapical foreign bodies.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Radiological and histopathological records of patients diagnosed with periapical granuloma or radicular cyst from 2000 to 2013 were evaluated retrospectively. Patients with histologically verified foreign bodies were included in the study and their pathological samples and radiological images were reviewed. The outcome variable was radiologically det

OBJECTIVES: There is little knowledge about oxidative stress-induced senescence involvement in apical periodontitis. Here, we explored its molecular mechanism in periapical lesions.
METHODS: Ten cases of radicular cysts and five cases of periapical granulomas were randomly selected. Immunohistochemical analysis was performed to detect the expression and correlation between Senescence-associated factor polymerase I and transcript release factor (PTRF) and Akt/FoxO1 signaling. Human periodontal ligament cells (hPDLCs) pretreated with LY294002 were exposed to H2O2-induced oxidative stress condit

Paradental cyst is an odontogenic cyst associated with pericoronitis in partly erupted mandibular third molars. It is an inflammatory cyst common among the mandibular molars. The cyst is most commonly seen on the distal or distobuccal aspect of the third molars. The angle of tooth and food impaction has been postulated to be responsible for the development of the cyst in third molars. The source of the epithelium has been reported as reduced enamel epithelium. The paradental cyst is frequently misdiagnosed as a radicular cyst or dentigerous cyst. We report a case of paradental cyst in a patien

Osteomyelitis of the jaws presents a clinical challenge to conventional treatment, often requiring multiple surgical interventions resulting in significant deformity and presenting significant problems to satisfactory rehabilitation. While benign odontogenic cysts, such as the radicular cyst, are generally predictably treated, they can cause significant localized bone destruction and thus can present significant problems in satisfactory rehabilitation. In this case report, patients were treated combining conventionally appropriate surgical debridement and oral antibiotics with adjunctive plasm

Radicular cysts are the most common cystic lesions in the oral cavity, and have a rare occurrence in the primary dentition. We report a case of radicular cyst of mandible in child by multimodal imaging including panoramic radiography, CT, and MR imaging. A 7-year-old girl presented with swelling and without pain, and hypoesthesia on the right side of the mandible. On clinical examination, an expansive lesion with undulation was found to the buccal cortex of the right side of the mandible. Panoramic radiograph showed a unilocular radiolucency with well-defined margin, displaced tooth, and root

Dental trauma often has tooth discoloration and periapical lesion as its sequelae. Intracoronal bleaching restores the aesthetics, while a retrograde approach is required for non-healing lesions. A patient with discolored teeth, draining sinus, tenderness and a periapical lesion on the radiograph was treated initially with conventional root canal therapy and walking bleach technique. After four months, the sinus tract reappeared and on cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) examination, a large periapical lesion with loss of buccal cortical plate was seen. A minimally invasive retrograde cystic

A radicular cyst, also known as a periapical cyst or root end cyst, is usually associated with permanent dentition and its association with deciduous teeth is an infrequent phenomenon. Radicular cyst typically arises from inflammation of the pulp and periapical tissues of a non-vital tooth. This article presents a case report of a six-year-old female with an apical periodontal cyst associated with deciduous and permanent teeth in the maxillary posterior region of the jaw. Early diagnosis of the lesion might have resulted in a conservative treatment plan. This text's purpose is to emphasize the

This case report presents a novel non-surgical approach for managing a substantial periapical lesion associated with tooth 12 using a combination of injectable platelet-rich fibrin (i-PRF) and mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA). A 28-year-old male patient presented with pus discharge and intermittent swelling following a history of dental trauma. Clinical and radiographic assessments confirmed a large periapical cyst associated with tooth 12. The treatment involved root canal therapy with calcium hydroxide medication, leading to symptom relief. Subsequently, i-PRF combined with MTA was used as a

OBJECTIVE: Odontogenic cysts may be of developmental or inflammatory origin. They are frequently observed in brachycephalic dogs. Due to their expansive growth, cysts in the maxilla may extend into the nasal cavity, obstruct the nasal airway and cause nasal discharge. Epithelial cysts may lead to a comparable clinical picture. A new endonasal endoscopic intervention for the removal of these cysts is described.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Four brachycephalic dogs (Boxer, Chihuahua, French bulldog, Pug) with unilateral cysts obstructing the nasal cavity were included in the study. The animals underwe

A radicular cyst, also known as a periapical cyst or root end cyst, is a type of odontogenic cyst that is typically associated with permanent teeth. The radicular cyst usually is associated with maxillary central incisors followed by mandibular first molars. It occurs as a result of bacterial infection and pulpal necrosis which leads to inflammatory stimulation of the epithelial cell rests of Malassez along the periodontal ligament area of the tooth. Most cases of the radicular cyst are asymptomatic and they are diagnosed accidentally during routine radiographic examination. This article prese

Periapical diseases ranges from mild granulomatous lesions to large cystic ones, with the treatments corresponding to their respective pre-operative diagnoses. However, the determination of cause of periapical radiolucency is impossible on pre-operative clinical and radiographic examinations. We present a case highlighting the difficulties encountered in treating a periapical cyst using the current evidence in literature. It demonstrates the uncertainty involved in treating such lesions, owing to the impossible nature of determining the histopathological nature of the cyst, i.e., being either

Radicular cysts are the most common cystic lesions that affect the jaws, which, though mostly asymptomatic, can be seen radiographically as an oval or pear-shaped unilocular radiolucency in the periapical region. Nonsurgical root canal procedures and periapical surgery followed by placement of bone substitute and bioceramic root-end filling material is generally the treatment of choice. This case report highlights the endosurgical management of long-standing trauma that led to a radicular cyst with respect to three maxillary anterior teeth in a young adult. The clinical and radiographic examin

Osteomyelitis is an inflammatory condition of the bones that often starts with an infection of the medullary cavity and swiftly extends to the haversian system and periosteum. If drainage and antimicrobials are ineffective, acute osteomyelitis may progress to chronic osteomyelitis. Here, we offer a unique case that analyzes the radiographic and clinical characteristics of osteomyelitis with underlying disease. Cysts and cyst-like lesions of the jaws must be diagnosed and evaluated using radiographic findings in conjunction with clinical complaints. This case study examines the circumstances th
