UNLABELLED: Ovarian metastasis from breast cancer has been reported in a substantial number of cases; however, reports that specifically document ovarian metastasis in the setting of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome remain limited. We describe a woman in her forties with hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome caused by a germline BRCA1 mutation (c.117_118del) and a history of left-sided triple-negative breast cancer, invasive ductal carcinoma, clinical stage T1cN1M0, treated with mastectomy, adjuvant dose-dense epirubicin/cyclophosphamide and paclitaxel, followed by one yea

The reason for the destruction of the attachment apparatus in patients with periodontal disease is the supra- and the subgingival microflora. Hence, the treatment of this inflammatory gingival disease is primarily focused on eliminating the cause. The present case report assessed the therapeutic benefit of adjunctive use of a commercially available topical agent containing 1% hyaluronic acid gel combined with nonsurgical periodontal therapy. A patient aged 64 years with type 2 diabetes mellitus reported to the Department of Periodontology. He complained of gum enlargement and frequent bleeding

Idiopathic gingival fibromatosis (IGF) is a rare, benign, slow-growing proliferation of the gingival tissues involving both maxillary and mandibular gingiva. It is exacerbated during the eruptive phase of both primary and permanent dentitions. The purpose of this article is to report the case of a 10-year-old boy who presented with IGF whose gingival enlargement covered the occlusal surfaces of many teeth and displaced the erupting dentition, compromising the patient's cosmetics, function, speech and development. The treatment involved gingivectomy and gingivoplasty, combining both surgical an

Introduction and objective: Gingival overgrowth is an adverse drug reaction in patients on long-term calcium channel blocker therapy. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of non-surgical pocket therapy in patients suffering from Grade III drug-related gingival overgrowth. Method: 10 (7 female and 3 male) patients (age between 50–69 years) diagnosed with severe, Grade III gingival overgrowth were treated in our department. Non-surgical periodontal therapy consists of improving of individual oral hygiene, scaling, polishing and subgingival mechanical debridement instrumentation. The

Hereditary gingival fibromatosis (HGF) is an uncommon condition characterized by a benign, local, or diffuse gingival overgrowth. It may cover the teeth partially or totally, causing essential aesthetic, phonetic, and masticatory disorders. In this report, we discuss a case of an 11-year-old boy who presented with severe gingival enlargement. The diagnosis of HGF was made based on clinical examination and family history, with two of the patient's brothers and his paternal aunt being affected with the same disease. The patient was managed with electrosurgery under general anesthesia.

Drug-induced gingival enlargement (DIGE) is a biofilm-mediated gingival inflammatory condition associated with pharmacological agents. Specifically, calcium channel blockers, immunosuppressants, and anticonvulsants are among the primary medications associated with DIGE. Modifiable risk factors for DIGE include drug dose and dental biofilm, and the use of concomitant inducing medications. Although the clinical presentation of DIGE depends on these and patient-specific variables, its classical appearance is described as fibrotic, pink, bulbous, or mulberry-shaped overgrowths of the attached ging

The use of calcium channel blockers (CCBs) is associated with gingival enlargement, which adversely affects oral function, hygiene and aesthetics. Although CCB-induced gingival enlargement is a known adverse effect, it is rarely or never caused by some CCBs. In this paper, we report the case of a late 80's female patient with hypertension who experienced amlodipine-induced gingival enlargement. The patient's antihypertensive medication was changed from amlodipine to another CCB of the same class, benidipine, which has not been reported to cause gingival enlargement. The patient also received p

Gingival enlargement may be a result of multifactorial etiology which includes local factors such as calculus, food lodgement, overhanging restorations, and overextended dentures as well as systemic conditions such as hormonal disturbances and blood dyscrasias. Acquired immune deficiency is a manifestation of immune disorder caused by a retrovirus Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). The association of Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome or HIV with oral and periodontal lesions is highly significant. Seropositive patients usually present with periodontal diseases and atypical periodontal lesions

Gingival enlargement may manifest as a side effect of medications (calcium channel blockers, anticonvulsants, or immunosuppressants) and may be associated with inflammation, malignancy, or genetic inheritance. This condition has a significant impact on a patient's quality of life and affects their oral health status. This case report describes the management of a 68-year-old gentleman who presented with generalized gingival enlargement and chronic periapical abscess originating from tooth 34, which served as an abutment for a fixed partial prosthesis. The patient's medical history revealed tha

Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) is a rare autoimmune disease characterized by necrotising granulomatous inflammation of upper and lower respiratory tract, vasculitis and glomerulonephritis. This ailment may present with cough, haemoptysis, sinusitis, nasal deformity, skin lesions, malaise, fever, anorexia, and weight loss. Oral manifestation includes strawberry gingivitis, which is a pathognomonic clinical presentation. Here, we present a case of GPA in gingiva as the first manifestation. Clinical examination of the oral cavity revealed granular, erythematous gingival enlargement in the

Drug-influenced gingival enlargement (DIGE) or overgrowth manifests as abnormal enlargement of the gingiva due to an adverse effect of certain drug reactions in patients treated with anticonvulsants, immunosuppressants, or calcium channel blockers (CCBs). As the gingival enlargement became significant, it may interfere with the normal oral hygiene measures, aesthetics, as well as masticatory functions of the patients. The exact mechanism of how this undesirable condition develops is yet unknown, and complicated, with non-inflammatory and inflammatory pathways involved. This review illuminates

Plasma cell gingivitis (PCG) is a diagnostic dilemma for clinicians. It is also referred to as atypical gingivostomatitis, idiopathic gingivostomatitis, allergic gingivostomatitis, and plasma cell gingivostomatitis which are characterized by bright fiery red gingiva with spontaneous bleeding on slight provocation. It is often confused with inflammatory gingival enlargement, erythematosus lichen planus, and other lesions. One such rare and benign entity is discussed in this article and managed after thorough clinical, radiological, histopathology, immunohistochemistry analysis.

Periodontal pathology is often represented by increases in gingival volume, with pronounced inflammatory phenomena. These manifestations require a more accurate diagnosis and knowledge of the etiopathogenic factors involved. The periodontal treatment applied must be related with the etiopathogenic circumstances. Periodontal disease sometimes has a complex appearance, with intertwined local and systemic favorable factors that make it difficult to include it in a certain taxonomic form. Also, in general, the adult patients have associated chronic diseases that involve the administration of sever

Hyaline fibromatosis syndrome (HFS) is a rare, autosomally-recesfvsive disease characterized by papulonodular skin lesions, soft tissue masses, joint contractures, gingival overgrowth, and osteolytic bone lesions. Mutations in capillary morphogenesis gene 2 are responsible for both these conditions. Generally, an autosomal recessive pattern is assumed to be the most common mode of inheritance. Here, we report an unusual case of a twenty-three-year-old female patient with HFS who reported with a chief complaint of growing nasal mass for three months. There was no history of pain or bleeding ass

BACKGROUND: Metastatic cancers in the oral cavity are usually very rare and are usually an indication of widespread malignancy. In some cases, oral metastasis was found to be the first presentation of distant site tumours. Even though oral metastatic lesions may be found anywhere in the oral cavity, they commonly present in the posterior areas of the jaw bones. Among the soft tissues, the gingiva is the most common site. The presence of inflammation in the gingiva and the role of periodontal microbiota are suggested to play a role in the attraction of metastatic cells. The purpose of this case

BACKGROUND: Cyclosporine is an immunosuppressive agent used effectively for treatment of a rare haematological disorder known as medullary aplasia. This drug prevents several side effects, including gingival enlargement (GE) which compromises aesthetics, phonetics and chewing, and also predisposes patients to periodontitis.
CASE SUMMARY: This clinical case reports a 41-year-old woman who presented with cyclosporine-induced GE with underlying periodontitis and medullary aplasia. The management of the disease was approached through multidisciplinary strategy which allowed for accurate diagnosis

Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) is a rare multisystem disease characterized by a triad of necrotizing granulomas affecting the upper and lower respiratory tract, vasculitis and glomerulonephritis. Oral lesions are seen in 6-13% of cases, although not life threatening but might be the first symptoms reported by the patient. Here we present a case of gingival growth, later diagnosed as GPA owing to the timely recognition by the dentist. A 33-year-old female reported for evaluation of soft tissue growth in her lower left back tooth region present for past 3 months. She had no relevant medi
