Numerical abnormalities of permanent dentition - a case report.

Tooth number abnormalities may occur under the influence of genetic or environmental factors which intervene in the tooth formation stages (induction and proliferation), most commonly the permanent dentition being affected. The result is the appearance of dental anomalies with numerical deficiency (hypodontia, anodontia), or with dental excess (hyperodontia, over-teeth). In this paper we report a case of a 15-year-old boy with associated abnormalities of permanent dentition: mesiodens and palatal impacted cuspid at the maxillary dental arch and incisor anodontia at the mandibular dental arch.

Prevalence and Manifestations of Dental Ankylosis in Primary Molars Using Panoramic X-rays: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Dental ankylosis is a serious condition defined as the process that causes the fusion between the dentin or the cementum of the root and the alveolar bone, with the obliteration of the periodontal ligament becoming progressively replaced by bone tissue. The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence, location, severity, and association of dental ankylosis in primary molars with other dental anomalies such as the agenesis of permanent buds. For this study 150 panoramic x-rays were selected from patients with temporary or mixed dentition, aged six to twelve years old, from a private dentis

Craniofacial Growth at Age 6-11 Years after One-Stage Cleft Lip and Palate Repair: A Retrospective Comparative Study with Historical Controls.

BACKGROUND: Primary alveolar bone grafting inhibits craniofacial growth. However, its effect on craniofacial growth in one-stage cleft lip and palate protocols is unknown. This study investigated whether primary alveolar bone grafting performed during one-stage unilateral cleft lip and palate repair negatively affects growth up to 6-11 years old. METHODS: The craniofacial growth, dental arch relationship and palatal morphology at 6-11 years old in children with unilateral cleft lip and palate were compared retrospectively. Two cohorts after a one-stage protocol without (Group A) and with (Gro

The Association of Tonsil Hypertrophy with Pediatric Dentofacial Development: Evidence from a Cross-Sectional Study of Young Children in Shanghai, China.

PURPOSE: The prevalence of dentofacial deformity was reportedly higher than decades ago, to which upper airway (UA) obstruction-induced sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) might contribute a lot. Tonsil hypertrophy appears relatively common in the population of young children. Given that the association between tonsil hypertrophy and pediatric dentofacial deformity remained controversial, this cross-sectional research was designed to explore the internal relationship of those among young children in Shanghai, China. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A stratified cluster sampling procedure was adopted, and a
