The aim was to apply diagnostic criteria, as published by the International Headache Society (IHS), to the diagnosis of orofacial pain. A total of 328 consecutive patients with orofacial pain were collected over a period of 2 years. The orofacial pain clinic routinely employs criteria published by the IHS, the American Academy of Orofacial Pain (AAOP) and the Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (RDCTMD). OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to investigate the difference of neck fat tissue distribution by sex and its correlation with retropalatal and retroglossal airway.
STUDY DESIGN: A total of 38 consecutive patients (male: 19; female: 19) who received a CT scan were compared in the retroglossal region and at the narrowest cross section of the airway. Retroglossal fat tissue volume (FV) was segmented with Amira software and separated into subcutaneous and internal fat volume (SFV, IFV). These volumes were normalized by retroglossal neck volume (NV).

AIMS: To systematically compare clinical findings and psychosocial factors between patients suffering from atypical odontalgia (AO) and an age- and gender-matched group of patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMD).
METHODS: Forty-six AO patients (7 men and 39 women; mean age, 56 years) were compared with 41 TMD patients (8 men and 33 women; mean age, 58 years).
RESULTS: Mean pain intensity at the time of inclusion in the study was similar between the groups (TMD: 5.3 +/- 0.4, AO: 5.0 +/- 0.3), but pain duration was longer in AO patients (AO: 7.7 +/- 1.1 years, TMD: 4.5 +/- 0.1 years).

Epidemiologic studies have shown that migraine headaches are a common finding in the general population, often associated with a high degree of disability. Total replacement of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) has been done in the UK since 1987. The three currently available systems are the Christensen system, the TMJ Concepts system and the Lorenz (BMF) system. Data from surgeons who replace TMJ were collated up to May 2007.
