A 75-kilodalton major protein (75K protein) was purified to homogeneity from the cell lysate fraction and the envelope of Bacteroides gingivalis 381. A case report of an extraosseous calcifying odontogenic cyst (COC) that appeared clinically to be a reactive lesion is presented. Review of the 28 previously published extraosseous COC cases and the current case report showed a mean age of 45.2 years at the time of diagnosis. The prevalence and distribution of the putative periodontal pathogen Eikenella corrodens in the human oral cavity was examined. A total of 508 oral bacterial samples were taken from 10 periodontally healthy adults (PH), 11 adult periodontitis patients (AP), and 6 localized juvenile periodontitis patients (LJP). From each subject, samples of supra- and subgingival plaque were obtained from six to eight teeth as well as samples from buccal mucosa, lateral and dorsal surfaces of tongue, tonsil, and saliva. E. corrodens was cultured from 70% of healthy subjects and 100% of periodontitis patients.

An immunoperoxidase method was used to detect involucrin in 47 odontogenic tumors and 35 radicular cysts. Dental infections are able to produce ocular diseases by direct metastatic reflex or allergic pathways. Generally, these diseases quickly heal after a symptomatic local treatment with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications associated to an etiologic therapy in order to eliminate the dental infection and the allergic hypersensitivity.
