Odontogenic keratocyst (OKC), a type of epithelial developmental cyst, is frequently found in the jaw region. It has invasive characteristics such as satellite cysts, rapid progression, and tissue expansion. The OKC often favors the mandibular angle and ascending ramus. OKC symptoms include pain, swelling, displacement or malpositioning of adjacent teeth, and erosion or thinning of the limited or no bucco-lingual cortical expansion. There is radiographic evidence of a distinct, often scalloped, radiolucent lesion with a characteristic "soap bubble" or "honeycomb" appearance. This article repor

Background: Gardner syndrome is a rare genetic cancer predisposition disorder characterized by intestinal polyposis, multiple osteomas, and soft and hard tissue tumors. Dental anomalies are present in approximately 30%-70% of patients with Gardner syndrome and can be discovered during routine dental examinations. However, sometimes the diagnosis is challenging due to the high clinical variability and incomplete clinical picture. Herein, we report a family with various dental and bone anomalies, in which the definitive diagnosis was established with the help of a comprehensive genetic analysis

INTRODUCTION: A postsurgical ciliated cyst (PSCC) is an epithelial cyst that usually develops in the maxilla, although in rare cases, it can affect the mandible or other facial bones. The typical age of diagnosis is 40-50 years, with no gender prevalence, and the mean cyst development occurs approximately 10-15 years following a surgical or traumatic event. Some epithelial respiratory cells can be trapped into the bone tissue during maxillary surgical procedures or maxillary fractures. The pathogenetic mechanism can be attributed to an inflammatory process that stimulates epithelial proliferat

This case report discusses the surgical management of an apical periodontal cyst in a 14-year-old male patient presenting with pain in the upper anterior jaw. The patient had a history of trauma to the upper anterior teeth, leading to the development of a radicular cyst involving teeth 11 and 12. The treatment plan included initial root canal therapy followed by surgical enucleation of the cyst, apicoectomy, and retrograde filling of the affected teeth. Titanium-activated platelet-rich fibrin (T-PRF) membranes were utilized along with an osseo-bone graft to promote healing and bone regeneratio

Calcifying odontogenic cyst, also known as Gorlin cyst is a rare benign cystic lesion primarily found in the jawbones, accounting less than 1% of odontogenic cysts. It can be associated with odontogenic tumors such as odontomas. We report a rare case of COC associated with complex odontoma in a young patient and discuss its clinical features, diagnosis, and treatment options. An 18-year-old female patient presented with a painless radiopaque lesion of the right mandibular bone at Oral Medicine and Oral Surgery department. Radiographs revealed irregular tooth-like structures in the canine-premo

Odontogenic keratocysts (OKCs) in the maxilla are rare. Although destructive, their clinical presentation can mimic inflammatory conditions like radicular cysts and osteomyelitis. OKCs originate primarily from odontogenic sources. On radiography, they present a unilocular to multilocular radiolucency and may involve the maxillary sinus. Enucleation with chemical cauterization is the best treatment for limiting cyst recurrence. However, superaided infections, such as fungal sinusitis, can adversely affect the condition and require a more comprehensive treatment plan. The present case report des

In dentistry, over-retained deciduous teeth pose a distinct issue due to their endurance during the expected exfoliation period. This case study describes a clinical situation with a male patient who is seven years old and complaining of painful swelling over the maxillary anterior region of the jaw and clinically showing dark red-colored, firm, non-tender, purulent swelling extending from alveolar mucosa of the upper anterior to the gingival margin of the 51, 52, 53 region. The treatment plan includes the extraction of the primary teeth. This case report also highlights the importance of mini

BACKGROUND: Calcifying odontogenic cysts (Gorlin cysts) most commonly present centrally and have only rarely been reported in peripheral locations. The purpose of this report is to describe a new case of peripheral calcifying odontogenic cyst (PCOC) occurring in the anterior maxillary gingiva and to review the management and differential diagnosis of such a lesion.
METHODS: A 37-year-old female presented with a long-standing submucosal nodule on the gingiva between the maxillary central incisors, with asymptomatic growth over the last three years. Following an initial incisional biopsy, a dia

The term "unicystic ameloblastoma" describes cystic lesions that exhibit radiographic, clinical, or gross characteristics of a jaw cyst. However, histologic examination reveals a typical ameloblastomatous epithelium lining the cyst cavity, with or without luminal and/or mural tumor proliferation. Unicystic ameloblastoma is a less prevalent kind of ameloblastoma. Among the odontogenic cysts, neoplastic transformation is highest in odontogenic keratocysts (OKCs) and dentigerous cysts (DCs). Calretinin is considered a specific immunohistochemical marker for neoplastic ameloblastic epithelium and

The aim of this study was to evaluate the histopathologic diagnoses and radiographic characteristics of lesions associated with impacted teeth. In this retrospective study, 2624 biopsy reports were assessed. If the report was a record of a pericoronal lesion, the age and sex of the patient and the location, microscopic diagnosis, radiographic features, and size of the lesion were recorded. The Pearson chi-square, Kruskal-Wallis, and Fisher exact tests were used for statistical analysis. In total, 189 patients (7.2%) had lesions associated with impacted teeth. The mean (SD) age of affected pati

Ameloblastoma is a true benign odontogenic epithelial tumor, primarily arising in the jaw, and ranks as the second most prevalent odontogenic neoplasm following odontoma. Known for its diverse clinical, radiographic, and histological manifestations, ameloblastoma encompasses a wide spectrum of presentations. Unicystic ameloblastomas (UAs), a less common and generally less aggressive variant, appear as cystic lesions that can mimic ordinary jaw cysts in their clinical and radiologic features. However, histological examination reveals a distinctive odontogenic epithelium lining the cyst cavities

Primary bone tumours of the jaw are rare tumoral entities and do substantially differ from other bone tumours of the human body with respect of their frequently encountered unusual radiological appearances. The reason for that may be confined to the co-existence of two closely neighbored but different anatomical structures (i.e., tooth-forming apparatus and jaw bones with adjacent gingiva) and some tumour pathologies which are nearly excusively encountered in the jaw bones only (e.g., ameloblastoma, ossifying fibroma, ghost cell carcinoma). This paper would like to highlight some basic principl

There are plenty of benign lesions that can result in swelling of the mandible, and these can be classified as odontogenic and non-odontogenic lesions. Among the categories of odontogenic lesion, ameloblastoma is the most occurring lesion that takes origin from the epithelial cellular elements and dental tissues in their different stages of development. Ameloblastoma is the most serious odontogenic neoplasm due to its prevalence and clinical characteristics. Ameloblastoma is a broad class which encompasses 80% of solid multicystic type of ameloblastoma with unicystic ameloblastoma (UA) variant

BACKGROUND: Odontogenic cysts, generally classified as inflammatory or developmental, in dental practice are usually identified incidentally, on routine exams and constitute an important aspect of oral and maxillofacial pathology. A few literature sources provide epidemiological data on odontogenic cysts and tumors. However, these findings may help us to better understand such lesions and improve the diagnosis of odontogenic cysts and tumors. The variability of data obtained with other studies can be attributed to various sociodemographic factors.
THE AIM: This study was performed to evaluate

BACKGROUND: One of the most common injuries in the jaw and face area is cleft lip and palate, which causes an increase in the size, shape and time of formation and growth of teeth. Early detection of the number of missing teeth and paying attention to the size, shape and number of the remaining teeth is one of the goals of this study.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The present study investigated the issue by reviewing 45 articles with keywords including "Supernumerary teeth", "Cleft lip", "Palate", "Orthopantomo graphic" and "Hospital Infection" in 2012 to 2024.
RESULTS: The most common abnormality

KEY CLINICAL MESSAGE: Cemento-osseous dysplasia (COD) belongs to a group of fibrous osseous disorders that can masquerade as periapical inflammatory conditions in the jawbones. We present a rare case of COD occurring in a patient who also had periapical periodontitis concurrently. When faced with a patient exhibiting no symptoms, diagnosis may be challenging.
ABSTRACT: COD is a fibrous osseous disorder similar to periapical chronic inflammatory conditions and other cysts in the jaw bones on the radiograph. There is a rare case of COD occurring in a 49-year-old Chinese woman who also had chron

While the significance of immunogenic cell death (ICD) in oncology is acknowledged, its specific impact on colorectal carcinoma remains underexplored. In this study, we delved into the role of ICD in colorectal carcinoma, a topic not yet comprehensively explored. A novel ICD quantification system was developed to forecast patient outcomes and the effectiveness of immunotherapy. Utilizing single-cell sequencing, we constructed an ICD score within the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) and examined immunogenic cell death related genes (ICDRGs). Using data from TCGA and GEO, we discovered two s
