Glandular odontogenic cyst is an extremely rare lesion of the jaw. Its aggressive behavior and high recurrence rate makes it important while excising. Both clinical and radiographic features were nonspecific due to the similarities with other lesions therefore it can be misdiagnosed very easily. This article presents another case of Glandular odontogenic cyst in 17 year of male patient who was unaware of the lesion which was detected on routine examination.

OBJECTIVE: To report a patient with the hyperparathyroidism-jaw tumor syndrome (HPT-JT) who was found to have a rare ovarian tumor (granulosa cell tumor [GCT]). HPT-JT is caused by pathogenic variants in the CDC73 gene and results in primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT), benign fibro-osseous jaw tumors, benign or malignant renal tumors and cysts, and benign or malignant uterine tumors. We believe this is the first reported case of HPT-JT and GCT.
METHODS: The patient was a 31-year-old woman with abdominal pain who was found to have adult GCT. Her history was significant for a single gland parat

OBJECTIVE: Odontogenic keratocysts (OKCs) are jaw lesions with a tendency to recur. PTCH1 gene mutations are common events in most OKCs; however, other genetic alterations underlying OKC pathogenesis have not yet been elucidated. BRAF p.V600E mutations have recently been detected in some odontogenic tumors, such as ameloblastoma and ameloblastic fibroma, although their involvement in OKC is still unclear. In this study we aimed to clarify the presence and/or frequency of BRAF p.V600E mutations in OKCs.
STUDY DESIGN: Thirty-five cases of OKCs, 13 of which were associated with Gorlin syndrome,

A male patient about 45 years old came to my private clinic "The Dental Aid", Dhanmondi, Dhaka, Bangladesh last year (February 2016) with the complaint of pain at right palatal premolar region. On clinical examination we found the absence of upper left 2nd premolar from the series of dentition but on the right side premolars are present. The oral mucosa was intact and normal in color. There was no caries, dental pocket or any other pathology in the teeth of both jaws. On palpation we found soft area on the right palatal side at the premolar area. We took intraoral peri-apical radiograph and fo

The Stafne bone defect (SBD) classically presents as a well-defined, radiolucent lesion in the molar-mandibular angle region beneath the level of the mandibular canal. Due in large part to this prototypical appearance, most cases of SBDs are radiographically diagnostic without the need for tissue biopsy. A diagnostic challenge may arise, however, when the SBD occurs in other locations in the mandible. The authors report a case of a 57-year-old male who presented with a SBD of the left ascending ramus. The lesion was found incidentally on a panoramic radiograph. Additional imaging studies confi

The aim of the present study is to report the demographic and clinical characteristics of all jaw cysts diagnosed in a single Oral Pathology Department. 5294 cases of jaw cysts diagnosed during a 38-year period were retrospectively collected and classified according to the latest classification of Head and Neck Tumors of the World Health Organization. The patients' gender and age, as well as the main clinical features of the cysts were retrieved from biopsy report forms. Jaw cysts were more common in male patients, with a male to female ratio of 1.6:1. Most patients were in the 4th-6th decade

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) can be rarely found as a primarily intraosseous lesion and mistaken for other intraosseous or odontogenic pathology. A 65-year-old man had a poorly defined radiolucency distal to the left mandibular second molar root. Periapical radiographs demonstrated a minor radiolucency from 2.5 years prior. An oral and maxillofacial surgeon felt the radiolucency represented periodontal disease, extracting tooth #18. The differential diagnosis of mixed radiolucent/radio-opaque mandibular lesions includes: (1) fibro-osseous lesion, (2) odontogenic and non-odontogenic cyst, (3)

The aim of the present review was to integrate the available data published on gingival cyst of the adult (GCA), lateral periodontal cyst (LPC), and botryoid odontogenic cyst (BOC) into a comprehensive analysis of their clinical/radiological features. An electronic search was undertaken in July/2017. Eligibility criteria included publications having enough clinical/radiological/histological information to confirm the diagnosis. A total of 146 publications (157 GCAs, 213 LPCs, 96 BOCs) were included. GCA and LPC presented highest prevalence in the sixth/fifth decades; BOC in the sixth/seventh d

Most of the odontogenic keratocysts show an indolent behaviour like non-neoplastic lesions. For this reason, the odontogenic keratocyst was reclassified within the odontogenic cysts category in the WHO 2017 classification. Some odontogenic keratocysts may contain satellite cysts or solid squamoid islands within their wall. Recently, a solid form of odontogenic keratocyst has also been described which is composed entirely of multiple epithelial islands and small cysts in a collagenous stroma. The true nature of this variant is unclear yet. In this article, we present a series of 204 odontogenic

Primary intraosseous squamous cell carcinoma (PIOSCC) is a rare malignant neoplasm derived from odontogenic epithelial remnants in the central jaw bone. Most PIOSCCs originate from odontogenic cysts with a nonkeratinized epithelial lining, especially from radicular/residual and dentigerous cysts. There have been few reports of PIOSCCs derived from the odontogenic keratocyst (OKC), particularly those describing pathological features at the initial stage. The diagnosis of PIOSCC is difficult and based on exclusion of other carcinomas, including metastatic tumors from other primary sites. Here, w

Unicystic ameloblastoma is a less encountered variant of the ameloblastoma that usually presented as unicystic lesions of jaw occurring in 3rd and 4th decades of life. It shows a typical ameloblastomatous epithelium lining the cyst cavity, with or without variable tumor proliferations. The case presented here is of a 9 yr old boy who was referred to our center for the management of a large diffuse swelling on the right side of the face. Clinical and radiologic evaluation showed two interconnected cystic lesions in the right body and the symphyseal regions of the mandible associated with impact

OBJECTIVES: A keratocystic odontogenic tumor (KOT) is a type of odontogenic tumor that mainly occurs in the posterior mandible. Most KOTs appear as solitary lesions; however, they sometimes occur as multiple cysts. This study analyzed the clinical features of multiple KOTs.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The participants were diagnosed with KOT by biopsy with multiple surgical sites, and were patients at the Pusan National University Hospital and the Pusan National University Dental Hospital from January 1, 2005 to March 31, 2016. Charts, records, images and other findings were reviewed.

Cystic lesions of the jaws such as keratocysts (scientific community still continues to use the term 'odontogenic keratocyst' more favourably than 'keratocystic odontogenic tumour' although both terms remain acceptable synonyms), follicular cysts, radicular cysts, and residual cysts may reach large proportions, causing considerable bone destruction. Enucleation of cystic lesions in the jaw produces bone defects, which may recover spontaneously or with assisted healing with the use of autogenous bone graft or other bone substitute materials. This clinical study presents a spontaneous bone regen

Gorlin-Goltz syndrome (GGS) is an autosomal dominant disorder with a high degree of penetrance and variable expressivity. It is a rare phakomatosis characterized by multiple odontogenic keratocysts (OKCs), bifid ribs, and other abnormalities. The incidence of the GGS is estimated at 1 in 57,000-1 in 256,000 in the general population. The OKC is frequently the presenting manifestation of this syndrome. We report a case of a 25-year-old male patient, presenting with a swelling in the right side of the face which was diagnosed as GGS by correlating the clinical findings, histological findings, an

The purpose of the present study was to predict inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) exposure and associated neurosensory deficits after mandibular cyst surgery based on imaging findings. The study includes 193 sites in 184 consecutive patients who underwent enucleation of cystic lesions around a mandibular third molar (MM3) and extraction of the associated MM3. Absence/presence of white lines on panoramic radiographs (PR) and absence/presence of cortication surrounding the mandibular canal on computed tomography (CT) are evaluated as predictor variables. Outcome variables are operative IAN exposure
