Glandular odontogenic cyst: Comprehensive clinicopathological and immunohistochemical characterization.

BACKGROUND: The glandular odontogenic cyst (GOC) is a rare aggressive odontogenic lesion, whose diagnosis can be challenging due to the overlap of microscopic findings with other lesions of the jaws. However, the main histopathological and immunohistochemical criteria for establishing the proper diagnosis have not yet been universally accepted. This study aimed to report a series of seven cases of Glandular Odontogenic Cyst, with emphasis on the comprehensive clinicopathological and immunohistochemical characterization. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Clinicopathologic data were gathered from medical r

Adenosquamous Cell Carcinoma Associated With Giant Lung Cyst: A Case Report.

Emphysematous lung cysts are considered to be a risk factor for the development of lung cancer, and there have been several reports of lung cancer cases that have developed in conjunction with large lung cysts. Emphysematous lung cysts are more common in heavy smokers, and it has been pointed out that early detection is difficult because the lung mass shadow overlaps with the lung cyst, so they are often detected in an advanced state. We report a case of this disease that was discovered incidentally. The patient was a 51-year-old man. During a health checkup, he was found to have a right lung

Acute pancreatitis caused by oral contraceptives.

Acute pancreatitis manifests as an inflammatory condition, starting with the acinar cells in the pancreas and gradually escalating to widespread inflammation. Hypertriglyceridemia ranks as the third leading reason for acute pancreatitis, following gallstones and alcohol use, making up 2-14% of instances [1]. Numerous research findings indicate that acute pancreatitis triggered by hypertriglyceridemia (HTG-AP, hypertriglyceridemic acute pancreatitis) may lead to increased death rates compared to other acute pancreatitis causes hypertriglyceridemia, characterized by fasting serum triglycerides e

Lingual Bronchogenic Cyst: A Case Report and Literature Review of a Rare Pathology.

Choristomas are rare, benign embryonic tumors characterized by normal tissue appearing in abnormal sites. When lined with respiratory epithelium, they are classified as bronchogenic cysts. While these cysts most commonly occur in the mediastinum or other thoracic regions, their occurrence on the tongue is exceedingly rare. Here, we present the case of a four-year-old boy diagnosed with a bronchogenic cyst of the tongue, highlighting its clinical and histological features, diagnosis, and management, along with a review of the literature.

From Innocuous to Aggressive: A Case of Odontogenic Keratocyst Transforming to Unicystic Ameloblastoma.

Odontogenic keratocysts are known for their aggressive and recurrent nature. Clinically and radiographically distinguishing between ameloblastoma and odontogenic keratocysts can be challenging due to their similar locations, age of affected patients, and multilocular appearance. Ameloblastomas co-occurring with odontogenic cysts or other odontogenic lesions have been documented as combined lesions. However, unique incidences of odontogenic keratocysts showing changes of unicystic ameloblastomas are scarce, especially a large aggressive lesion occurring in the mandible extending from the molar-

BRAF p.V600E-Negative Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis Associated with a Periapical Cyst: A Case Presentation with Broad Review of the Differential Diagnosis and Disease Pathophysiology.

BACKGROUND: Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) rarely presents in the oral and maxillofacial region, and while isolated and small collections of Langerhans-type cells have been found in periapical cysts, there have been no reported cases of LCH arising in periapical cysts. METHODS: A 58-year-old female presented with isolated erythematous dry skin lesions and a radiolucent lesion of the anterior maxilla. Microscopic examination of the enucleation specimen revealed a periapical cyst with large collections of atypical cells with grooved folded nuclei with eosinophils consistent with LCH. Immun

Gene-Confirmed Primary Aneurysmal Bone Cysts of the Jaws: A Qualitative Systematic Review of Clinical, Radiologic, and Histopathological Features.

Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is rarely a clinical diagnosis on first take; hence, data pertaining to primary ABC assists in differentiating lesions from related pathologies. The cases of primary ABCs were managed by curettage even with extensive cortical plate expansion, whereas secondary ABCs were managed according to primary pathology. The present review retrospectively studies the case reports of primary ABCs affecting the jaws, reported from the year 2000 (the time when USP6 to CDH 11 gene translocation was detected) to date, to identify cases that were diagnostically confirmed with gene ana

ESR Essentials: Gynaecological causes of acute pelvic pain in women: a primer for emergent evaluation-practice recommendations by the European Society of Emergency Radiology.

Acute pelvic pain (APP) is a common presentation in women of all ages and has both gynaecological and non-gynaecological causes. In the emergency department, the suspected differential diagnosis dictates the chosen imaging modality. For premenopausal patients with APP, transabdominal ultrasound (TAUS) and transvaginal ultrasound (TVUS) are first-line investigations with high sensitivity and specificity for ectopic pregnancy, adnexal torsion, and ovarian cysts and their complications. US may also be valuable in pelvic inflammatory disease. When a non-gynaecological cause is suspected, contrast-

Sublingual Dermoid Cyst: A Diagnostic Challenge During Clinical Examination.

Introduction: Epidermoid cysts are benign lesions that may occur in many different sites of the body. They are classified into 3 types: epidermoid cysts when the lining presents only epithelium, dermoid cysts when skin adnexa are found, and teratoid cysts when mesodermal elements are present. Case Presentation: A 13-year-old boy presented with a gradually enlarging sublingual mass over a period of 4 years. The mass was painless at start but in the last 3 months, it was associated with pain and difficulties during eating and dysarthria. The general examination was unremarkable and examination o

Minimally Invasive Surgery for Giant Epidermoid Cysts of the Head and Neck Region: A Case Series.

Two distinct cases of giant epidermoid cysts in rare head and neck anatomical locations - one in the sublingual space and the other in the infratemporal fossa - are reported, highlighting the variability in presentation, imaging characteristics, and surgical management. Transoral excision of the cyst was selected for case 1 to minimize cosmetic concerns. For case 2, given the benign nature of the lesion and the patient's preference for a less invasive procedure, endoscopic marsupialization via a transnasal-transmaxillary approach was chosen. This method relieved symptoms, minimized surgical ri

The application of EPSiT in pilonidal sinus disease: an international Delphi consensus study endorsed by the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ALSGBI).

BACKGROUND: Endoscopic pilonidal sinus treatment (EPSiT) is a novel, minimally invasive surgical technique that has shown promise in the treatment of pilonidal sinus disease. Despite the apparent benefits and call for increased use, widespread uptake has been slow. This study aims to gather and understand expert international opinions on EPSiT and develop recommendations for its application in the surgical community. METHODS: Expert international panellists were identified and recruited to participate. A three-round modified Delphi consensus consisting of 43 questions regarding the applicatio

Nonodontogenic cysts and pseudocysts of the oral cavity: a retrospective study of 218 cases.

Nonodontogenic cysts and pseudocysts pose diagnostic challenges due to their similarity to other maxillofacial lesions in clinical and radiographic appearance. However, these lesions are studied less frequently than odontogenic lesions. This retrospective cross-sectional study aimed to evaluate the frequencies and characteristics of nonodontogenic lesions in an Iranian population over a 20-year period. Archived records of 7036 patients referred to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, Shahid Beheshti University Faculty of Dentistry, Tehran, were reviewed. Data on the age and sex

Oral glucose tolerance test-induced increases in femoral blood flow are absent in nonobese females with polycystic ovary syndrome.

The oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) promotes transient increases in peripheral blood flow via humoral mechanisms, including insulin. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is associated with insulin resistance and vascular dysfunction, even in nonobese females. We therefore tested the hypothesis that OGTT-stimulated increases in femoral blood flow (FBF) would be impaired in females with PCOS. In the overnight postabsorptive state, plasma glucose, insulin, and FBF (duplex ultrasound and superficial femoral artery) were measured pre-OGTT and at 0, 15, 30, 60, 90, and 120 min following a 75-g glucos
