Localized cystic kidney disease (LCKD) is a distinct renal disorder characterized by the presence of cysts within specific regions of the kidneys. We present a rare case of a 41-year-old African American man, who presented to our medical center with lower urinary tract symptoms and gross hematuria. The initial assessment culminated in the identification of an uncomplicated urinary tract infection, prompting the prescription of appropriate oral antibiotic therapy. On follow-up after 5 months, the patient presented with gross hematuria. Imaging studies revealed a mixed-density cystic lesion of 2

This article is a discussion of two cases of young adults with lesions in similar locations in the anterior maxilla, i.e., the canine-to-canine region, similar history, and comparable radiology. Both cases were histologically diagnosed as calcifying odontogenic cysts. Case 1 was a male aged 28 years with diffuse, firm left malar area facial swelling with pain in associated teeth for a month. Intraorally, he had a gingivo-vestibular swelling also extending palatally in the anterior left maxillary region extending from the distal surface of the left maxillary central incisor to the mesial surfac

Orofacial masses or swellings are a common presenting complaint in lagomorphs. Similar gross appearances of the masses can complicate clinical interpretation, and histologic review often provides the final diagnosis. Underlying causes vary from infectious to neoplastic. Although inflammatory changes are most commonly reported, various neoplasms occur, although the prevalence of specific tumor types is relatively unknown. We reviewed retrospectively 120 cases (87.5% biopsy, 12.5% autopsy) of neoplastic and non-neoplastic orofacial masses received from January 2000-February 2023 at 2 institution

Odontogenic keratocyst (OKC) is a common jaw cyst with a high recurrence rate. OKC combined with basal cell carcinoma as well as skeletal and other developmental abnormalities is thought to be associated with Gorlin syndrome. Moreover, OKC needs to be differentiated from orthokeratinized odontogenic cyst and other jaw cysts. Because of the different prognosis, differential diagnosis of several cysts can contribute to clinical management. We collected 519 cases, comprising a total of 2 157 hematoxylin and eosin-stained images, to develop digital pathology-based artificial intelligence (AI) mode

Florid cemento-osseous dysplasia (FCOD) can rarely be associated with bone lesions, including simple bone cysts (SBCs). Only a few cases showing the co-occurrence of these two distinct entities have been reported in the literature. This article reports two new cases of SBCs within FCOD. The first case involves a 37-year-old Black female with a large radiolucent lesion around the apex of the right third mandibular molar, accompanied by multiple cemento-osseous lesions around the mandibular teeth. Surgical exploration revealed an empty bone cavity, confirming the diagnosis of an SBC. Curettage o

BACKGROUND: The use of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) for dentomaxillofacial diagnostics in pediatric dentistry is expanding and concerns have been raised about the radiation risks associated with this imaging modality, especially for children. Dentomaxillofacial paediatric imaging: an investigation towards low-dose radiation induced risks (DIMITRA) is a multidisciplinary project focused on optimizing CBCT exposure for children and adolescents. This study aims to clarify the indications behind CBCT scans in children aligned with DIMITRA's recommendations.
METHODS: For each CBCT examinat

The head and neck regions are rather uncommon for dermoid cysts. Dermoid cysts are among the rarest types of oral cysts, accounting for a very small proportion of cases in the oral cavity. They are thought to be caused by defective development along the embryonic lines of fusion, involving both ectodermal and endodermal elements. This case study details a 16-year-old girl who complained of a smooth, globular swelling that had been present for two months over the floor of the mouth and extending to her left submandibular region. Following ultrasonography (USG) confirmation, the patient underwen

STUDY QUESTION: Are 24-h movement composition and time reallocations between the movement behaviours (moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA), light physical activity (LPA), sedentary behaviour (SB), and sleep) differentially associated with cardiometabolic markers in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) relative to women without PCOS?
SUMMARY ANSWER: There was no difference in 24-h movement composition between the groups, although among women without PCOS, reducing SB time while increasing either MVPA or LPA time was associated with beneficial differences in cardiometabolic mark

Benign epidermal cysts, also called epidermoid cysts, can sometimes develop in the orofacial region from trapped epidermal components without skin adnexal appendages. Congenital or acquired conditions could be the case. Epidermoid cysts have been found to occur in 6.9-7% of facial regions. Though these cysts normally grow slowly and present with no symptoms, occasionally a subsequent infection makes them problematic. It's more common in the third and fourth decades of life. It is an uncommon illness among children. This report describes a mass that was seen in the right postauricular region of

In this case report, we present the treatment of a 39-year-old male patient with a bilateral maxilla cyst diagnosed as an additional finding ont he X-ray. Both conservative dentistry treatments and oral surgical procedures were carried out using state-of-the-art materials and equipment, and in close collaboration with the other dental specialists. Endodontic treatment of the remaining teeth was performed before the oral surgery treatment. The root canal fillings were made using bioceramic-based root canal sealer. Cystectomy was then performed on both sides and the bone cavities were filled wit

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to evaluate whether degenerative bone changes in the mandibular condyle on cone beam computed tomography images are associated with the Eichner index.
METHODOLOGY: 336 cone beam computed tomography images condyle images of 168 patients were analyzed for degenerative bone changes. These changes were named as condyle flattening, osteophytes, erosions, subchondral sclerosis, generalized sclerosis and subchondral cysts. The edentulous status of the patients was classified as group A-B-C and subtypes according to the Eichner index. Categorical variables were

Odontogenic keratocyst (OKC), a type of epithelial developmental cyst, is frequently found in the jaw region. It has invasive characteristics such as satellite cysts, rapid progression, and tissue expansion. The OKC often favors the mandibular angle and ascending ramus. OKC symptoms include pain, swelling, displacement or malpositioning of adjacent teeth, and erosion or thinning of the limited or no bucco-lingual cortical expansion. There is radiographic evidence of a distinct, often scalloped, radiolucent lesion with a characteristic "soap bubble" or "honeycomb" appearance. This article repor

Inflammatory paradental cysts (IPC) are frequently under-reported due to insufficient clinical details. Our case report describes a 45-year-old male with a complaint of discomfort in the right lower posterior region. Intra-oral examination revealed a partially erupted, mesioangularly impacted 48 without any dental caries. The radiograph revealed a well-circumscribed radiolucency around the distal root of the impacted mandibular third molar. Histopathology revealed odontogenic epithelium with an inflamed connective tissue wall. It was diagnosed as an IPC correlating the clinical and radiologica

Epidermoid cysts represent a common benign cutaneous neoplasm resulting from the invagination and subsequent proliferation of epidermal cells within the dermal layer. They exhibit a predilection for the face, cervical region, upper torso, and scalp, manifesting as firm, mobile nodules with a characteristic central punctum. Surgical excision is the recommended therapeutic approach for sizeable or recurrent cysts, particularly when they elicit discomfort or aesthetic concerns. Although recurrence is possible, especially in cases of incomplete excision, adherence to proper scalp hygiene and gentl

INTRODUCTION: For women of reproductive age, oral contraceptives (OCs) are a well-liked and practical way to control pregnancy. OCs are also used to treat acne, irregular uterine bleeding, and premenstrual syndrome. However, there are false beliefs regarding their benefits and risks. The primary health benefits of OCs are the reduction of acne, the risk of colon, ovarian, and endometrial cancer, and the risk of osteoporosis. Other benefits include the reduction of the risk of endometriosis, fibroid tumors, menorrhagia, dysmenorrhea, benign breast illness, and ovarian cysts. The objective of th

A dentigerous cyst (DC) is the most common developmental cystic lesion of the jaws. Histologically, these cysts derive from the odontogenic epithelium that includes the reduced enamel epithelium, epithelial cell rests of Serres, and epithelial cell rests of Malassez. Radiographically, DCs are usually presented as well-defined radiolucencies associated with the crown of an unerupted tooth at the level of the cementoenamel junction (CEJ). Glandular odontogenic cysts (GOCs) are classified under the same category as DCs. Radiographically, glandular odontogenic cysts (GOCs) may appear as unilocular
