Bone Trabecular Pattern Analysis in Odontogenic Cysts Using Cone Beam Computed Tomography: A Clinical Retrospective Study.

Introduction The cysts of the maxillofacial region account for one of the most common pathologies of the head and neck region after the mucosal pathologies. Radiography provides an essential clue in early diagnosis and triaging, but it continues further as it is used to evaluate the post-treatment outcome. However, manual analysis is prone to errors. In this scenario, fractal analysis (FA) in radiographs uses mathematical methods to analyse the changes in grey scales in a given radiographic image. FA in odontogenic cysts is used to characterise their complexity, uncover hidden patterns, monito

A Radicular Cyst in the Mandibular Anterior Region of Primary Teeth.

Radicular cysts are common among odontogenic cysts but are rare in primary teeth. They occur more frequently in the mandibular molar region and rarely in the mandibular anterior region. This is a case of a radicular cyst in the mandibular anterior teeth during the primary dentition stage. In addition, after the fenestration of cystic lesions, gauze is generally changed to prevent the extraction socket from closing. However, in this case, the patient was six years old. Therefore, to alleviate the burden of changing the dressing gauze, we practiced putting on and taking off the obturator before

Prevalence, Characteristics and Distribution of Odontogenic Cysts amongst the Indian Subpopulation of Southern Rajasthan: A 5-year Retrospective Study of 218 Cysts.

BACKGROUND: Odontogenic cysts (OCs) arise from the odontogenic epithelium and occur in the tooth-bearing regions of the jaws. Proliferation and/or degeneration of this epithelium lead to OC development. AIM AND OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence, characteristics, distribution and clinicopathological features of OCs and compare with other studies. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Records of OCs were retrieved, and patient's data, aetiology, clinical features, histopathological distribution, treatment, complications and recurrence were studied. RESULTS: A total of 218

Conservative Approach in Managing Complex Odontogenic Lesions: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Radicular cysts are among the most common odontogenic cystic lesions in the maxillofacial region. This case report details the management of a large radicular cyst in the anterior maxillary region of a 32-year-old female patient and includes a literature review on such cysts. The patient underwent cyst decompression, surgical enucleation, tooth extractions, root canal treatments, periapical curettage, and prosthetic rehabilitation. This study underscores the effectiveness of conservative approaches, such as decompression, in reducing cyst size and highlights the importance of individualized tr

PREVALENCE AND DISTRIBUTION OF ODONTOGENIC CYSTS: A 12-YEAR RETROSPECTIVE STUDY.

BACKGROUND: Odontogenic cysts, generally classified as inflammatory or developmental, in dental practice are usually identified incidentally, on routine exams and constitute an important aspect of oral and maxillofacial pathology. A few literature sources provide epidemiological data on odontogenic cysts and tumors. However, these findings may help us to better understand such lesions and improve the diagnosis of odontogenic cysts and tumors. The variability of data obtained with other studies can be attributed to various sociodemographic factors. THE AIM: This study was performed to evaluate

Postoperative Maxillary Cyst Following Maxillary Tooth Extraction: A Rare Surgical Predicament.

A postoperative maxillary cyst (POMC) is an epithelium-lined cyst that can develop following surgery or trauma in the maxillary antral region. This condition arises from the entrapment of the sinonasal mucosa in the maxilla, and rarely in the mandible, due to trauma or instrumentation near the maxillary sinus. Literature indicates that POMCs, or surgical ciliated cysts, can appear as delayed complications from five months to 56 years after trauma or surgical procedures in the sinus area. Despite its potential for aggressive local destruction, it often presents incidentally with minimal symptom

Epidermoid Cyst of the Maxillary Sinus: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Epidermoid cysts are rare benign lesions that can derive from abnormally situated ectodermal tissue during embryological development or from implanted epithelium after trauma or surgery. In the oral and maxillofacial regions, epidermoid cysts usually develop in the floor of the mouth and rarely in other sites. We describe a rare case of an epidermoid cyst arising in the right maxillary sinus. A 29-year-old man with a known diagnosis of Marfan syndrome presented with progressive swelling and tenderness in the right buccal region, mimicking facial cellulitis, and refractory to medical treatment.

Imaging Characteristics of Embedded Tooth-Associated Cemento-Osseous Dysplasia by Retrospective Study.

BACKGROUND: Since there are many differential diagnoses for cemento-osseous dysplasia (COD), it is very difficult for dentists to avoid misdiagnosis. In particular, if COD is related to an embedded tooth, differential diagnosis is difficult. However, there have been no reports on the characteristics of the imaging findings of COD associated with embedded teeth. The aim of the present study was to investigate the occurrence and imaging characteristics of cemento-osseous dysplasia (COD) associated with embedded teeth, in order to appropriately diagnose COD with embedded teeth. METHODS: The radi

Prognostic and therapeutic insights into colorectal carcinoma through immunogenic cell death gene profiling.

While the significance of immunogenic cell death (ICD) in oncology is acknowledged, its specific impact on colorectal carcinoma remains underexplored. In this study, we delved into the role of ICD in colorectal carcinoma, a topic not yet comprehensively explored. A novel ICD quantification system was developed to forecast patient outcomes and the effectiveness of immunotherapy. Utilizing single-cell sequencing, we constructed an ICD score within the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) and examined immunogenic cell death related genes (ICDRGs). Using data from TCGA and GEO, we discovered two s

Surgical Management and Denosumab for Aneurysmal Bone Cysts of the Spine in an Australian Tertiary Paediatric Centre.

Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABC) are rare osteolytic, benign but often locally aggressive tumours of the long bones or vertebrae. For spinal ABC, surgical management, embolisation or sclerotherapy alone often carry high morbidity and/or high recurrence rates. Interruption of receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappa B ligand (RANKL) signalling holds promise as an effective therapeutic strategy for these tumours. We aimed to review the approach to surgical management and evaluate the efficacy and safety of denosumab for ABC of the spine in children. Retrospective review of 7 patients treated with d

Factors affecting the distribution of serum anti-müllerian hormone levels among infertile Asian women: a multi-nation, multi-centre, and multi-ethnicity prospective cohort study.

STUDY QUESTION: How do age, ethnicity, and other characteristics affect serum anti-mullerian hormone (AMH) levels in Asian women undergoing fertility treatment? SUMMARY ANSWER: Age, ethnicity, obesity (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2), and polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) significantly impacted serum AMH levels, with the rate of decrease accelerating as age increased; a concentration of 4.0 ng/ml was the optimal cut-off for diagnosis of PCOS. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: There are significant differences in ovarian reserve among women from different races and ethnicities, and Asian women often have poorer reprod

An Unusual Case of Maxillary Sinus Odontogenic Keratocyst: An Insightful Report With Review of the Literature.

Maxillary sinus odontogenic keratocyst (OKC) is very rare and occupies less than 1% of the total OKC cases reported in the literature. OKCs have characteristic features that are unique compared to other cysts of the maxillofacial region. Considering their peculiar behaviour, varied origin, debated development, discourse treatment modalities, and high recurrence rate, OKCs have been a subject of interest for various oral surgeons and pathologists globally. This case report presents an unusual case of invasive maxillary sinus OKC into the orbital floor, pterygoid plates, and hard palate in a 30-

Lung Cancer Cells Infiltration into a Mandibular Follicular Cyst.

INTRODUCTION: The oral cavity is a rare site for other organs' tumor metastases. The incidence rate ranges from 1% to 3% of all oral malignancies. Metastases more frequently localize in the mandible, especially in the molar area. Metastases within odontogenic cysts are extremely rare, thus in the literature, only a few cases have been reported. The follicular cyst is one of the most frequent cysts of the jaws. Radiologically it shows as a unilocular lesion with a sclerotic border, characterized by a homogenous radiolucency that incorporates the crown of the unerupted tooth. METHODS: A 76-year

A Unique Case of Plunging Dermoid Cyst in an Elderly Male: A Case Report.

Dermoid cysts are the least commonly occurring developmental cysts in the oral and maxillofacial region. They may be congenital or acquired and are seen as asymptomatic swellings that are slow and progressive. It is very difficult to differentiate plunging ranulas from plunging dermoid cysts as both of them have very similar clinical features. However, since both entities have different treatment strategies, it is important to differentiate one from the other. A 57-year-old male patient reported to the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology with a large swelling in the submental region. To
