Telangiectatic osteosarcoma (TO) is an uncommon variant of osteosarcoma that primarily afflicts young adults. In this case report, we describe a unique instance of TO occurring in a young child's maxilla. Under microscopic examination, it reveals abundant blood-filled spaces, extensive hemorrhagic regions, alongside atypical pleomorphic tumor cells and osteoid. It is crucial to conduct a meticulous histopathological examination to distinguish TO from other lesions, such as aneurysmal bone cysts and Ewing sarcoma.

The Odontogenic Keratocyst (OKC) is characterized by pathognomonic histomorphological features and rarely exhibits significant deviations. We present a case of OKC of mandibular posterior region in a 25-year-old female patient. In addition to the classical histopathological characteristics of OKC, the connective tissue near the juxta-epithelial area displayed numerous small round basophilic calcifications resembling psammomatoid ossicles. These calcifications displayed a focal distribution pattern, with round calcifications evenly spaced from each other. Some of these round calcified bodies bo

We evaluated the usefulness of simple diffusion kurtosis (SD) imaging, which was developed to generate diffusion kurtosis images simultaneously with an apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) map for 27 cystic disease lesions in the head and neck region. The mean kurtosis (MK) and ADC values were calculated for the cystic space. The MK values were dentigerous cyst (DC): 0.74, odontogenic keratocyst (OKC): 0.86, ranula (R): 0.13, and mucous cyst (M): 0, and the ADC values were DC: 1364 × 10-6 mm2/s, OKC: 925 × 10-6 mm2/s, R: 2718 × 10-6 mm2/s, and M: 2686 × 10-6 mm2/s. The MK values of DC and OKC

AIM: The aim of this article is to report a case of multiple radicular cysts in an 8-year-old.
BACKGROUND: Multiple radicular cysts are an uncommon and rare entity in mixed dentition. Management of these cysts needs careful examination of the present deciduous and erupting permanent dentition. Here, we present a case of multiple radicular cysts in an 8-year-old with no other significant medical history. The treatment approach included removal of the involved deciduous teeth and enucleation of cysts, followed by curettage and the use of Whitehead's varnish.
CASE DESCRIPTION: The patient repor

OBJECTIVES: the aim of this study was to analyze the prevalence of histopathological diagnoses in oral biopsied tissues obtained from a Brazilian pediatric population.
METHODS: an analytical, cross-sectional retrospective study was performed with biopsy files of patients ≤14 years of age from a Brazilian oral pathology laboratory over a 43-year period. Data included sex, age, location, and diagnoses. The prevalence was calculated by means of relative frequency. Associations between sex, age groups and diagnoses were verified with Pearson's chi-square test.
RESULTS: from 19,456 oral biopsies,

Dermoid and epidermoid cysts are congenital or acquired benign developmental cysts that uncommonly occur in the head and neck region. These cysts represent less than 0.01% of all cysts of the oral cavity and can be found on the tongue, lips and other oral mucosa locations. The palate is less frequently affected with most reported cysts being limited to the soft palate. In this study, we report a case of a dermoid cyst of the hard palate, and discuss its management with a review of the literature.

Background: Branchial cleft cysts or fistulae are common in pediatric surgical pathology and are cured by surgery. Lesions in this area may not show the classical features of a cyst or duct lined by squamous or respiratory epithelium and other differential diagnoses should be considered. Case report: A seven-year-old otherwise healthy boy presented with bilateral swelling of the lower neck and reported intermittent secretion of clear fluid on the right side. Excision of the right sided lesion revealed an ectopic salivary gland, the excision of the left showed only subtle fibrosis. Conclusion:

Eruption of tooth into place other than tooth-bearing region is defined as ectopic eruption. Although ectopic eruption of tooth is rare, there have been cases in the maxillary sinus, mandibular condyle, nasal cavity, chin, palate, and orbital floor. Due to ectopic teeth's rarity and lack of consensus for ıts treatment, incidence was entitled to be added to literature and discussed. It was reported that odontogenic tumors and cysts can develop around the ectopic tooth. Thus, ectopic teeth can be followed up regularly in case of no signs and symptoms. BACKGROUND: Diagnosis of parotid gland tumors is sometimes challenging due to their diversity and pleomorphic histological appearance. B-scan sonography along with color-coded duplex sonography is the gold standard in the diagnostic workup of these lesions, whereas histopathology is to date the gold standard for the final diagnosis. To date no single imaging technique provides the chance for an art-diagnosis with highly diagnostic accuracy. Contrast enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) on the other hand provides information of the perfusion down to the capillary level. Currently there are only a fe

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the dose-area product (DAP) of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) examinations for different scan settings and imaging indications, and to establish institutional diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) for dose optimisation.
METHODS: A retrospective analysis of the DAP values of 3568 CBCT examinations taken from two different devices at the Prince Philip Dental Hospital, Hong Kong between 2016 and 2021 was performed. Patient- (age, gender, and imaging indication) and imaging-related (CBCT device, field-of-view (FOV), and voxel size) were correlated with the DAPs. The

The aim of this clinical report is to document a rare and unusual case of calcifying odontogenic cyst (COC) in the maxillary anterior region in a 13-year-old girl. A COC is an extremely uncommon developmental, odontogenic entity and accounts for 0.3%-0.8% of odontogenic cysts. The lesion presents as an array of varied radiographic and clinicopathological characteristics and biological attributes and exists in three histomorphologic patterns - benign cystic, solid (neoplastic) and aggressive (malignant) forms. Thus, several nomenclatures and classifications have been put forth to explain the na

BACKGROUND: Lingual microcystic lymphatic malformations (LMLMs) are rare congenital vascular malformations presenting as clusters of cysts filled with lymph fluid or blood. Even small well-limited lesions can be responsible for a heavy burden, inducing pain, aesthetic prejudice, or oozing, bleeding, infections. The natural history of LMLMs is progressive worsening punctuated by acute flares. Therapeutic options include surgery, laser excision, and radiofrequency ablation but all are potentially detrimental and expose to local relapse. Therefore, the management frequently relies on a "watchful

Pilomatrixoma is a follicular benign tumor of unknown etiology that originates in the matrix of a hair follicle. It develops more frequently in children and young adults, with a slight predominance in female patients. It is a slow-growing tumor that presents as a mobile nodule, firm, and with well-defined borders. The present study aimed to report the clinical, histopathologic, and radiographic aspects of pilomatrixoma in the cheek area of a 20-year-old female patient as the established treatment at an oral maxillofacial department. Pilomatrixoma is rarely included in the differential diagnosi

BACKGROUND: Orthokeratinized odontogenic cyst (OOC) is a rare developmental odontogenic cyst of the jaw. It was originally believed to be a variant of odontogenic keratocyst (OKC) but is now considered to be a distinct entity. OOC usually presents as a single lesion and recurs infrequently. On the other hand, OKC often presents with multiple lesions and displays locally aggressive behavior and a high recurrence rate associated with the protein patched homolog 1 (PTCH1) gene mutation. Multiple OOC cases are extremely rare and seem to be aggressive, but their pathogenesis is not fully understood

BACKGROUND: SILS (single incision laparoscopic surgery) and NOTES (natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery) are considered breakthroughs in minimally invasive surgery, the first consisting in the surgeon working via a single entrance site and the second via a natural orifice (e.g., oral cavity).
METHODS: Since 2000 until 2022, the original articles published in the online databases were analyzed. Eligible studies included information about the current therapy of patients with liver surgical pathology and how the two new techniques improve the surgical approach.

BACKGROUND: The term "peripheral fibro-osseous lesion (PFOL)" is used relatively for common gingival lesions characterized histologically by hypercellular connective tissue showing either new bone-like formations or cementum-like substance and rarely dystrophic calcifications. These lesions are closely related to the other fibro-osseous lesions such as cemental periapical dysplasia, fibrous dysplasia, and other calcifying odontogenic cysts and tumors. The etiology is unknown, but certain authors suggest plaque, dental calculus, and ill-fitting dentures which might be the irritating agents caus

Submandibular gland mucoceles, which are very rare cystic lesions, make differentiation from other cystic neck masses such as plunging ranula and cystic lymphatic malformation difficult. The authors report a rare huge submandibular gland mucocele with diagnostic difficulties. A 39-year-old woman with painless swelling in the left submandibular region underwent OK-432 injection therapy with a diagnosis of plunging ranula at another hospital. However, she was referred to our department for recurrent swelling. Computed tomography showed a well-circumscribed, multilocular, low-density lesion in th
