Benign submandibular gland tumors are usually resected through a transcervical incision, which provides direct exposure but leaves visible cervical scarring. Remote-access endoscopic techniques improve scar concealment but can be limited by two-dimensional visualization, assistant-dependent camera control, and rigid instrument collision in the narrow submandibular gland space. This article presents a standardized video protocol for robot-assisted submandibular gland excision via a gasless trans-hairline approach for benign tumors. The procedure begins with postauricular trans-hairline incision

OBJECTIVE: Ultrasonography (US) is commonly used in the investigation of sialolithiasis, whereas Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) has recently emerged as a complementary imaging modality. This study aimed to characterize sialoliths detected exclusively on CBCT, and not documented in prior US reports.
STUDY DESIGN: CBCT scans of patients with suspected parotid or submandibular sialolithiasis with prior US were retrospectively analysed. Cases were stratified into three groups according to whether the same number, fewer, or none of the sialoliths detected on CBCT had been documented in prior

Secretory carcinoma (SC) of the salivary gland is a low-grade, slowly growing tumour. However, cytological diagnosis of SC is often challenging due to its morphological mimics. Characteristic cytoplasmic vacuolation seen in SC can be displayed in many tumours. However, careful evaluation of architecture, cytological content and background can assist in a definite diagnosis on FNAC. Application of immunocytochemistry on cell blocks can further aid in diagnosis.

OBJECTIVE: Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is the most common benign parotid tumour. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) are routinely used during preoperative work up. However, there is insufficient evidence to support the use of MRI alone to diagnose a PA. This paper aims to evaluate the diagnostic performance of MRI and FNAC in the diagnosis of PA and develop an MRI assessment tool to potentially reduce an invasive biopsy.
METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted in 155 patients with histopathologically confirmed parotid tumours with preoperative

BACKGROUND: Pleomorphic adenoma is a benign salivary gland tumor that has a potentiality to recurrence and malignant transformation as well. The genetic alteration of this tumor is not completely studied yet. Investigating the growth factor receptors and tumor microenvironment may yield answers to the nature of this tumor.
METHODS: Thirty-six formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded pleomorphic adenoma specimens were collected from Al-Mouassat University Hospital. EGFR, HER-2 and BCL-2 antibodies have been used in immunohistochemistry stains to investigate the most probable affected pathway in this

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to clarify the incidence and outcomes of distant metastasis (DM) in patients with major salivary gland cancer who received upfront surgery followed by adjuvant postoperative radiation therapy (PORT).
METHODS: We analyzed 214 patients from a multicenter study. The importance of histologic subtypes on distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS) was analyzed, along with other clinicopathologic prognostic factors. Median total doses and fractional doses were 61 (range, 26-70) Gy and 1.8 (range, 1.8-2.5) Gy, respectively.
RESULTS: With a median follow-up of 74 (range, 4-1

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The accurate preoperative classification of parotid tumors is crucial in selecting the appropriate treatment options. This study aimed to develop a machine learning model based on clinical, imaging, and laboratory test data to efficiently determine the preoperative nature of primary operable parotid tumors.
METHODS: A total of 779 patients with primary operable parotid tumors receiving surgical treatment from four independent clinical centers were enrolled. Standardized clinical, laboratory and multi-modality imaging indicators were extracted for model construction. We

Foreign body ingestion in adults may become life-threatening depending on the site of impaction and the nature of the object. We report a 53-year-old man who accidentally ingested a bottle top while opening a pressurized reused beverage bottle with his teeth. He presented with drooling of saliva, dysphagia, throat pain, and foreign body sensation. Plain radiographs failed to identify the radiolucent foreign body but excluded airway involvement. Direct laryngoscopy identified the foreign body impacted at the cricopharyngeal opening, and successful removal was achieved using Magill forceps under

BACKGROUND: Submandibular sialolithiasis is a common condition that can cause significant discomfort and complications if left untreated. Treatment strategies depend largely on the size and location of the sialolith, with various surgical and nonsurgical techniques available.
CASE PRESENTATION: This report describes the successful management of a large sialolith in the submandibular gland via sialadenectomy using an extraoral approach. The case highlights the importance of a comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic strategy for managing large sialoliths and demonstrates the efficacy of sialad

OBJECTIVES: Identifying immune features that distinguish asymptomatic autoantibody-positive at-risk individuals from patients with established autoimmune disease is key to understanding the evolution from autoreactivity to established autoimmune disease. This study investigated immune characteristics of anti-SSA-positive at-risk individuals, including pregnant women, compared with patients with Sjögren's disease (SjD) and healthy donors (HDs).
METHODS: Peripheral blood samples were obtained from asymptomatic anti-SSA-positive women (at-risk individuals; n = 7, including two ongoing pregnancie

Pediatric submandibular sialolithiasis with a salivary cutaneous fistula is exceptionally rare. A 15-year-old boy presented with a 4-month history of a persistent right submandibular inflammatory lesion with a central opening and hypergranulation despite previous incision and drainage. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography demonstrated a 10.8 mm distal Wharton duct stone, a 34 mm inflammatory lesion extending toward the skin, and marked atrophy of the right submandibular gland. Because of persistent inflammation, fistula formation, and severe glandular atrophy, the fistulous tract and affected

Multimodality imaging is essential for evaluating head and neck rheumatologic disease. Computed tomography (CT) can demonstrate osseous erosions, mineralization, and structural complications, including temporomandibular joint and cervical spine involvement in JIA/RA, crowned dens in pseudogout, and sinonasal or airway disease in giant cell arteritis (GCA) and relapsing polychondritis (RP). Ultrasound is useful for detecting synovitis in JIA/RA, auricular chondritis in RP, salivary gland abnormalities in Sjögren's syndrome, and vascular changes in GCA. FDG-PET/CT can identify metabolically acti

Xerostomia, a salivary gland disorder affecting up to 30% of adults, compromises oral homeostasis by reducing salivary flow and buffering capacity. Amelogenesis imperfecta is a hereditary condition characterized by defective enamel formation and mineralization, with a prevalence ranging from 1 in 700 to 1 in 14,000 children worldwide. Although xerostomia has been associated with increased susceptibility to dental caries and subsequent enamel damage, its relationship with amelogenesis imperfecta remains unclear, and no shared molecular pathway has been causally linked to both hyposalivation and

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are increasingly associated with a broad spectrum of immune-related adverse events (irAEs), including rheumatic manifestations. We report a case of ICI-associated sicca syndrome (ICI-S) mimicking Sjögren's disease, with a brief literature review. The patient was a 70-year-old man with BRAF-mutated metastatic melanoma who developed inflammatory arthralgias followed by parotid and submandibular enlargement, severe xerostomia, and xerophthalmia, during pembrolizumab therapy. Treatment was withheld and low-dose glucocorticoids (GC) initiated, with rapid improvem
