[Adrenal ganglioneuroma as an incidentaloma in a patient with Sjögren's syndrome].

Ganglioneuroma is a benign, non-functional tumor, most of which are asymptomatic and discovered incidentally through imaging studies or at autopsy. We present the case of a 47-year-old woman with Sjögren's syndrome. Computed tomography scan of the abdomen showed an ovoid tumor with well-defined borders, measuring 11 x 8 cm, located in the left adrenal gland. Robotassisted adrenalectomy was performed, and microscopic examination revealed a mature ganglioneuroma. Although imaging studies such as computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging are effective in the diagnostic approach to adrena

Multimodal imaging features of nuclear protein in testis carcinoma of the submandibular gland: a case report.

RATIONALE: NUT carcinoma (NC) is a rare and highly aggressive malignancy defined by rearrangements of the NUTM1gene. Primary NC of the submandibular gland is exceptionally rare, with nonspecific imaging features that often lead to misdiagnosis as common salivary gland tumors and delayed treatment. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 32-year-old man presented with a painless mass in the left submandibular region that rapidly enlarged from 2 cm to approximately 4 cm within 1 month, accompanied by the development of ipsilateral pharyngeal and periauricular pain. DIAGNOSES: Preoperative multimodal imaging-compu

[Explore the potential diagnostic markers of primary Sjögren syndrome by bioinformatics combined with machine learning].

OBJECTIVE: To develop a diagnostic model for primary Sjögren syndrome (pSS) utilizing transcriptomics-based machine learning techniques, and to explore potential therapeutic targets. METHODS: We selected patients diagnosed with pSS and control subjects with salivary gland samples from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database for transcriptome sequencing. This was complemented by methylation sequencing data, followed by weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) in conjunction with clinical data to identify candidate diagnostic genes. Subsequently, we refined the gene list using le

The mystery of BMI in Sjögren's disease: unravelling complex relationships between BMI and multiple laboratory parameters.

The relationship between body mass index (BMI) and laboratory parameters in Sjögren's disease (SjD) remains unclear. We evaluated associations of BMI with selected serological and haematological parameters and explored its relationship with the EULAR Sjögren's Syndrome Disease Activity Index (ESSDAI). This single-centre retrospective cross-sectional study included 554 unique hospitalised patients with SjD. Multivariable linear regression models were adjusted for age, sex and disease duration. Effect estimates were expressed per 5 kg/m² higher BMI, and Benjamini-Hochberg false discovery rate co

A Secret Worth Telling: The Salivary Secret (Ory) Affair.

Secretory carcinoma (SC) of the salivary gland is a low-grade, slowly growing tumour. However, cytological diagnosis of SC is often challenging due to its morphological mimics. Characteristic cytoplasmic vacuolation seen in SC can be displayed in many tumours. However, careful evaluation of architecture, cytological content and background can assist in a definite diagnosis on FNAC. Application of immunocytochemistry on cell blocks can further aid in diagnosis.

Effect of high-sucrose intake on the salivary glands of growing rats: histological analysis and assessment of gene and protein expression.

Excessive sugar intake contributes to noncommunicable diseases, including dental caries. According to the Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD) theory, early-life nutrition influences organ development and future disease susceptibility. This study examined the impact of high-sucrose intake during the growth period on salivary gland development in rats and its potential influence on dental caries after growth. Male Wistar rats were divided into two groups: a high-sucrose group (HS), receiving a 15% sucrose solution, and a control group (C), receiving distilled water. Measurements

Parotid pleomorphic adenoma: can a biopsy be omitted in the setting of a characteristic MRI?

OBJECTIVE: Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is the most common benign parotid tumour. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) are routinely used during preoperative work up. However, there is insufficient evidence to support the use of MRI alone to diagnose a PA. This paper aims to evaluate the diagnostic performance of MRI and FNAC in the diagnosis of PA and develop an MRI assessment tool to potentially reduce an invasive biopsy. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted in 155 patients with histopathologically confirmed parotid tumours with preoperative

Pleomorphic adenoma: does the immunohistochemical profile direct the clinical profile: retrospective study and review of literature.

BACKGROUND: Pleomorphic adenoma is a benign salivary gland tumor that has a potentiality to recurrence and malignant transformation as well. The genetic alteration of this tumor is not completely studied yet. Investigating the growth factor receptors and tumor microenvironment may yield answers to the nature of this tumor. METHODS: Thirty-six formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded pleomorphic adenoma specimens were collected from Al-Mouassat University Hospital. EGFR, HER-2 and BCL-2 antibodies have been used in immunohistochemistry stains to investigate the most probable affected pathway in this

Accidental Bottle Cap Ingestion in an Adult in a Resource-Limited Setting: A Case Report.

Foreign body ingestion in adults may become life-threatening depending on the site of impaction and the nature of the object. We report a 53-year-old man who accidentally ingested a bottle top while opening a pressurized reused beverage bottle with his teeth. He presented with drooling of saliva, dysphagia, throat pain, and foreign body sensation. Plain radiographs failed to identify the radiolucent foreign body but excluded airway involvement. Direct laryngoscopy identified the foreign body impacted at the cricopharyngeal opening, and successful removal was achieved using Magill forceps under

SLC4A9 deficiency is involved in Sjögren's syndrome and enamel defects through RPS27-triggered ribosomal stress.

Xerostomia, a salivary gland disorder affecting up to 30% of adults, compromises oral homeostasis by reducing salivary flow and buffering capacity. Amelogenesis imperfecta is a hereditary condition characterized by defective enamel formation and mineralization, with a prevalence ranging from 1 in 700 to 1 in 14,000 children worldwide. Although xerostomia has been associated with increased susceptibility to dental caries and subsequent enamel damage, its relationship with amelogenesis imperfecta remains unclear, and no shared molecular pathway has been causally linked to both hyposalivation and
