BACKGROUND: Behçet's disease (BD) is a persistent inflammatory vasculitis affecting various vessel types across multiple organ systems. It clinically presents recurrent oral and genital ulcers, ocular inflammation, and various skin manifestations. Etiology remains multifactorial, involving genetic susceptibility, immune system dysregulation, and environmental triggers such as infections. Intestinal involvement represents a rare but particularly severe form of BD, whose clinical features frequently resemble those of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), complicating differential diagnosis and mana

INTRODUCTION: The main way that the skin produces Vitamin D, which is necessary for calcium metabolism and skeletal health, is through exposure to ultraviolet B rays. Long-term skin disorders such as ichthyosis can prevent the skin from producing enough Vitamin D, leading to deficiencies and issues with bone health. This report highlights the need to take Vitamin D insufficiency and its sequelae into account in clinical care by presenting a case of genu valgum in a patient with lamellar ichthyosis. Similar correlations have also been shown in earlier research, underscoring the necessity of con

The incidence of recurrent oral aphthae (ROA) is on the rise. Its etiology is unknown, particularly its relationship with the FODMAP diet. This investigation delved into their genetic correlation and elucidated the role of ferroptosis. Two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was performed, and mediation MR analysis to investigate the relationship between the FODMAP Diet, Ferroptosis, and ROA using GWAS data from Finngen for ROA, deCODE for ferroptosis, and UKB for the FODMAP Diet. Subsequently, a two-step mediation analysis was conducted to examine the mediating role of Ferroptosis in

The contribution of circulating micronutrients to ulcer susceptibility remains poorly defined across anatomical sites. In this study, we constructed a systematic trace element-ulcer map by integrating genetic-instrumented inference, pleiotropy-aware modeling, and heterogeneity-sensitive clustering. Summary-level data were obtained from large-scale genome-wide association studies (GWAS) encompassing 10 circulating micronutrients (calcium, iron, zinc, copper, magnesium, selenium, carotene, vitamin B12, vitamin C, and vitamin D) and nine ulcer phenotypes (corneal ulcer, recurrent oral aphthae, es

UNLABELLED: Behçet's disease (BD) is a systemic vasculitis characterized by recurrent orogenital ulceration and several systemic manifestations (such as gastrointestinal involvement, vascular disease or arthritis). The pathogenesis is still unknown but the trigger role of certain pathogens such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis is well documented. Furthermore, patients with BD are more susceptible to tuberculosis due to immunity defects. Here, we describe the case of a 70-year-old woman with a history of recurrent oral aphthae and inflammatory arthritis presenting with extensive thrombosis of left

INTRODUCTION: Behçet's disease (BD) is a chronic systemic condition characterized by recurrent oral and genital ulcers, neurological and vascular manifestations, ocular and skin lesions, and a positive pathergy test. Mouth and genital ulcers with inflamed cartilage (MAGIC) syndrome is rare and consists of features of BD together with relapsing polychondritis. The treatment of this syndrome is similar that of BD and depends on disease expression and symptoms.
CASE REPORT: We report the case of a 50-year-old man diagnosed with BD with relapsing polychondritis (MAGIC syndrome) which had evolved

BACKGROUND: Few studies have evaluated the risk of oral cavity cancer (OC) in patients with recurrent oral aphthae (ROA) and dry eye syndrome (DES). This study assessed the risk of OC in patients who had received diagnoses of ROA and DES in Taiwan.
METHODS: A population-based frequency-matched case-control study was conducted in which data were analyzed from the National Health Insurance Research Database of Taiwan. Patients with ROA and DES were identified as the case cohort. Patients and controls without ROA and DES were frequency matched (1:4) on the basis of age, sex, monthly income, geog

Behçet's disease (BD) is a multisystemic vasculitis disorder of almost unknown etiology, which involves small and large vessels and affects both veins and arteries. BD is characterized by recurrent oral aphthae (the main and most recurrent symptoms), genital ulcers, variable skin lesions, arthritis, uveitis, and thrombophlebitis. Other reported symptoms concern the involvement of the gastrointestinal and the central nervous system. Neuro-Behçet's disease (NBD) is one of the main causes of long-term morbidity and mortality, making its prompt recognition and treatment fundamental to attaining a

Objective. The aim of this review is to provide the available evidence on the external use of propolis (EUP) for oral, skin, and genital diseases. Method. We searched twelve electronic databases for relevant studies up to June 2016. Randomized clinical trials (RCTs) were included and analysed. Results. Of the 286 articles identified, twelve potentially relevant studies met our inclusion criteria. A meta-analysis of two studies on recurrent oral aphthae (ROA) indicated that there were no significant differences in total effective rate (TER) for pain disappearance between EUP and placebo groups

Pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) is rarely reported in Behçet's disease (BD) due to its distinctive thrombus-forming mechanism. In BD, the inflammation on vessel walls causes venous thrombosis. The thrombi are considered to be tethered to the inflamed walls making embolization less frequent. Thus, immunosuppressive agents are the mainstay of treatment. However, the necessity of anticoagulation therapy is controversial because of its uncertain efficacy of resolving thrombi and the possibility of fatal side effects of hemorrhage. A 25-year-old man with recurrent oral aphthae visited with abrupt o

Triggered by the ingestion of gluten in genetically predisposed individuals, celiac disease is the most common genetically based food intolerance in the world, with a prevalence among approximately 1% of the general population. This enteropathy may appear at any age and is characterized by a wide variety of clinical signs and symptoms that go well beyond the gastrointestinal tract. In young children, gastrointestinal presentations are common and include chronic diarrhea, failure to thrive, and abdominal distention; however, extraintestinal manifestations are becoming increasingly more common.

Behçet's disease (BD) is a systemic vasculopathy, characterized by recurrent oral aphthae, genital ulcers, uveitis, and skin lesions. Although vascular involvement, including venous and arteries of any size, is a usual manifestation, cases with pulmonary thrombosis as the initial symptom are not common in the absence of pulmonary artery aneurysm (PAA). This report describes a 36-year-old man with recurrent fever, nonmassive hemoptysis, and persistent cough with lung nodules in CT scan who had undergone open lung biopsy. On the basis of morphological findings, BD was suggested and more precise

Behçet's syndrome is a systemic vasculitis of small and large vessels affecting both veins and arteries. Almost all patients with Behçet's syndrome have recurrent oral aphthae, followed by genital ulcers, variable skin lesions, such as erythema nodosum and papulopustuler lesions, arthritis, uveitis, thrombophlebitis, and gastrointestinal and central nervous system involvement. Recent epidemiologic works suggest that genetic factors are more important than environmental factors in its pathogenesis. European League Against Rheumatism guidelines were recently published for the treatment of Behçet
