OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study is to evaluate long-term facial growth in adults previously treated for an isolated unilateral complete cleft lip, alveolus and palate by two-stage palatoplasty.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) patients of 17 years and older treated by two-stage palatoplasty were invited for long-term follow-up. During follow-up, lateral cephalograms were obtained (n = 52). Medical history was acquired from their medical files. Outcome was compared to previously published normal values and the Eurocleft study.

BACKGROUND: Unilateral cleft lip is a profoundly asymmetrical condition affecting all hard and soft tissue layers from the nose to the upper lip. Although the asymmetry is minimized through cleft lip repair, a degree of asymmetry inevitably persists. INTRODUCTION: Macrocheilia is a rare presentation for acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL).
CASE REPORT: A 18 year-old man was referred to our department for an acute swollen lower lip, multiple swollen cervical lymph nodes and spontaneous gum bleeding. The diagnosis of APL was made and the treatment was rapidly started in an intensive care unit.
DISCUSSION: APL is often found because of stomatologic symptoms but macrocheilia is rarely reported. APL is a vital emergency.

METHODS: 325 women who had children (0-3y) with clefts were interviewed. Data regarding type of diabetes, use of legal/illegal drugs during pregnancy, waist girth and fasting blood sugar at the first prenatal consult were collected.

A six-year-old castrated male Maltese dog presented to a private animal clinic with a mass on the dog's lower lip without any other clinical signs. The mass (3 × 2 × 2 cm) was whitish and grossly well circumscribed, and a histopathological examination revealed that the mass was composed of normal cartilage tissue surrounded by fibrous connective tissues. Based on the gross findings, histopathology and anatomical location of the mass, the first diagnosis of a cartilaginous choristoma in a dog was made.

Monocytes as cells of the innate immunity are prominently involved in the development of atherosclerotic lesions. The heterogeneity of blood monocytes has widely been acknowledged by accumulating experimental and clinical data suggesting a differential, subset-specific contribution of the corresponding subpopulations to the pathology of cardiovascular and other diseases. This document re-evaluates current nomenclature and summarises key findings on monocyte subset biology to propose a consensus statement about phenotype, separation and quantification of the individual subsets.
