BACKGROUND: Reports of adverse drug events (ADEs) involving aromatase inhibitors (AIs) and cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 (CDK4/6) inhibitors exist, but a comprehensive assessment of their combined safety in real-world practice has not been conducted.
METHODS: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) and the Japanese Adverse Drug Event Report (JADER) database were used to collect data from the first quarter of 2015 to the third quarter of 2025. Disproportionality analysis was performed to identify ADEs associated with combination therapy. Multivariate logistic

Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome (MRS) is a rare and often challenging condition of unknown etiology, typically defined by a clinical triad of peripheral facial nerve palsy, recurrent orofacial edema, and fissured tongue. Its variable presentation and overlap with allergic reactions, mast cell-mediated disorders, and drug hypersensitivity reactions can delay diagnosis and appropriate management. We report the case of a 43-year-old man with a personal long-standing history of recurrent hemifacial and lip swelling associated with facial nerve palsy and a plicated tongue, fulfilling the complete cli

Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome (MRS) is a neuromucocutaneous disease that manifests by the triad of recurrent orofacial edema (frequently as cheilitis granulomatosa), relapsing facial paralysis and plicated tongue. The cause of MRS remains unknown, but genetic predisposal and a relationship with inflammatory bowel disease are suspected. The objective of this research was to compare the frequency of class I and II HLA alleles in patients with a confirmed diagnosis of MRS with those of a healthy control group. We conduct a case-control study and typed of HLA A, B, C, DR, and DQ using molecular te

BACKGROUND: Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome (MRS) is a rare disease characterized by the triad of recurrent orofacial edema, relapsing facial paralysis and plicated tongue. Histopathological features of MRS have not been extensively analyzed.
METHODS: This study investigated the histopathological aspects of oral lesions from 47 MRS patients.
RESULTS: The most common biopsy site was the upper lip, followed by the lower lip, gingiva and palate. The most important findings were ill-defined and well-formed granulomas. Lymphoplasmacytic inflammatory infiltrate was seen in early and late stages of M

Cheilitis granulomatosa (CG) is a cosmetically disturbing and persistent idiopathic lip swelling. It is one manifestation of orofacial granulomatosis (OFG), which is a clinical entity describing facial and oral swelling in the setting of non-caseating granulomatous inflammation and in the absence of systemic disease such as Crohn's disease and sarcoidosis. CG can occur by itself or as part of the Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome, which includes facial palsy and a plicated tongue. Other proposed causes of OFG include dietary allergens such as cinnamon and benzoates. Similar orofacial swelling may

UNLABELLED: Melkerrson-Rosenthal syndrome is a rare disorder of unknown etiology. The classical triad of recurrent facial paralysis, swelling of the face, lips and deep furrowed tongue (Lingua Plicata) is seen in very few cases, majority of the patients often present with one or two symptoms only, which often leads to misdiagnosis and mismanagement. Clinically these symptoms vary from days to years, which further delay the definitive diagnosis and symptoms may eventually become permanent. The cause of this entity is not very well understood, but thought to be attributable to multiple entities

Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome (MRS) is an idiopathic, rare disorder manifested by facial swelling, congenital plicated tongue and recurrent peripheral facial nerve palsy. Labial involvement alone is referred to as cheilitis granulomatosa. Differential diagnosis of MRS includes allergic angioedema, bacterial, viral or filarial infections as well as autoimmunological inflammation in the course of systemic lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis, and others. We present 4 patients who experienced periodically painless edema of the face and/or lips. Lesions were diagnosed as recurrent Quincke's edema

The goal of this work is to report five cases of Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrom with a literature review. It is a rare entity and is characterized in its complete presentation, by the association of reccurent orofacial swelling, peripheral facial palsy and plicated tongue. Incomplete forms are more frequent and more difficult to establish its diagnosis. This latter is based on major and minor clinical and histological critieria sorted in three levels. There is four forms of MRS. The pathogenesis of this syndrome is still unknown; treatment remains random. It is based on topical or systemic stero

INTRODUCTION: Melkersson Rosenthal's syndrome is a rare disease that classically combines: orofacial edema, peripheral facial paralysis and a plicated tongue. Miescher's cheilitis represents the monosymptomatic form of the disease. Its etiopathogenesis is unknown. We report 2 cases of Miescher's cheilitis during which the discovery of a monoclonal lymphocyte expansion raised the question of an eventual link between these two diseases.
CASE REPORTS: CASE No 1. A 30 Year-old man, without medical past history, had been followed up for 3 Years for Miescher's cheilitis. The supplementary examinati

Long QT syndrome (LQTS) is the prototype of the cardiac ion channelopathies which cause syncope and sudden death. LQT1, due to mutations of KCNQ1 (KVLQT1), is the most common form. This study describes the genotype-phenotype characteristics in 10 families with mutations of KCNQ1, including 5 novel mutations. One hundred and two families with a history of lethal cardiac events, 55 LQTS, 9 Brugada syndrome, 18 idiopathic ventricular fibrillation (IVF), and 20 acquired LQTS, were studied by single-strand conformational polymorphism (SSCP) and DNA sequence analyzes. Families found to have KCNQ1 mu

Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome keeps on being a very unknown disease in our days in its etiology, prognosis and treatment. The limited prevalency of this entity makes in a great number of cases, diagnosis delates, specially when the disease doesn't manifestate in its complete presentation, characterized by the association of recurrent orofacial swelling, peripheral facial palsy and plicated tongue. In this article, we report a classic case of this neuro-muco-cutaneous disease, whose diagnosis delated, perhaps, because we loose the global dimention of the patient.

OBJECTIVES: To determine prevalence of oral mucosal lesions in a cross-sectional study among aging Germans.
METHODS: Three specially trained dental teams examined adults (35-44 yrs, Group 1) and senior individuals (65-74 yrs, Group 2) in 90 sample points of which 60 were located in the former West and 30 in the former East part of Germany. The spectrum comprised 28 different oral lesions with subforms.
RESULTS: 655 individuals in Group 1 (35-44 yrs) and 1367 individuals in Group 2 (65-74 yrs) were studied. 33.8% (Group 1) and 33.9% (Group 2) were without any pathology of the oral mucosa. Sev

Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome is a rare entity and is, in its complete presentation, characterized by the association of recurrent orofacial swelling, peripheral facial palsy and plicated tongue. Clinical diagnosis of incomplete forms, frequently described, is based on major and minor features, currently accepted by numerous clinicians. For most investigators, Miescher's granulomatous macrocheilitis is a monosymptomatic form of the affection. Histopathological findings reveal non-caseating epithelioid cell granulomas, with sometimes perivascular pathognomnic arrangement, which typically shows

Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome (MRS) is a neuro-muco-cutaneous disorder involving remittently both the oro-facial innervation and muco-cutaneous tissues in a pathosis of complex origin characterized by recurrent edema, facial or other palsies, and nerval dysfunctions frequently associated with plicated tongue. Biopsies taken from the edematous tissues often reveal a temporary pattern of moderate epitheloid granulomatous inflammation scattered scarcely within remarkable tissue edema. However, this histological pattern is not a prerequisite for the diagnosis of MRS. The disease usually runs an in

Atypical forms of Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome are difficult to diagnose, especially when occurring in uncommon facial locations. The clinical and histological characteristics of these forms are illustrated in a typical case. We report our experiences with a 59-year-old white male who had increasing swelling of his tongue for years and a recent onset of perioral swelling. A plicated tongue was present, while symptoms of facial and trigeminal nerve involvement were absent. Minor symptoms present were speech impediments, dysgeusia, episodes of hypersalivation and burning sensations on eating. B

The Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome (MRS) is a rare disease which includes a triad of orofacial swelling, recurrent facial nerve paralysis and plicated tongue. MRS can still be diagnosed when any two of the conditions are present. Because of its rarity, it is usually ignored and misdiagnosed. Herein, a diabetic female patient with this syndrome, previously diagnosed as Bell's palsy, is described. This case report is presented to encourage awareness of this entity among medical practitioners. In addition, the MRS literature is reviewed with respect to incidence, etiology, clinical features, patho

The author reviews recent data from the literature in the light of a case of Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome. It would appear that the triad (plicated tongue, macrocheilia and facial paralysis) forming the syndrome may be accompanied by other bucco-facial oedematous manifestations. The etiology remains unknown and treatment is symptomatic based upon the aesthetic and symptomatic requirements of each patient.

The Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome is a rare disease consisting of orofacial swellings, facial nerve palsy and plicated tongue. The etiology is unknown. On histopathological examination a characteristic granulomatous inflammation is found. A case of this syndrome in a young white female with seronegative oligoarthritis is described and the possible relationship between the two diseases is discussed on the basis of the literature.

Two- patients had Melkersson-Rosenthal' syndrome. One of them had all the 3 components of the syndrome-facial paralysis, plicated tongue and macrocheilia, while the other had only 2 components-macrocheilia and plicated tongue. Oral antihistamine therapy for 3 weeks was ineffective in. both cases. But appreciable clinical response occurred after clofazimine therapy in both cases.
