Incidental Finding of Gastric Lesions During Pancreatobiliary Endoscopic Ultrasonography.

BACKGROUND: Gastric lesions may be incidentally detected during pancreatobiliary endoscopic ultrasonography (PB-EUS). We aimed to clarify the detection rate of gastric lesions and the impact of awareness on the detection of gastric lesions during PB-EUS. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed consecutive patients who underwent PB-EUS (1932 procedures, 1220 patients). We compared the detection rate of incidental gastric lesions and documentation of gastric findings between the groups without and with gastric screening during PB-EUS: former group (2009-2014: 505 procedures, 409 patients) and latt

Chemical constituents and anti-ulcer effects of a wild pear (Pyrus syriaca Boiss.): Phytochemical, histopathological and apoptotic approaches.

Gastric ulcers are a major health concern that can cause severe complications such as bleeding (perforation), digestive blockage, or even stomach cancer if not treated properly. In this study, we evaluated the phytoconstituents, acute toxicity, and gastroprotective potential of the unexplored Pyrus syriaca Boiss. in ethanol-mediated gastric ulcer in rats. Experimental rats were housed in different cages and fasted before receiving pretreatments (250 and 500 mg/kg) and absolute ethanol (5 mL/kg, i.g.) administration. Phytochemical investigations unveiled increased phenolic (142.55 GAE/100 g), f

Preclinical evidence of the therapeutic effect of Moringa oleifera in peptic ulcer disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Peptic ulcer disease (PUD) remains a global health burden, with current therapies limited by recurrence, adverse effects, and high costs. Moringa oleifera, a medicinal plant traditionally used for gastrointestinal disorders, has shown anti-ulcer potential in several experimental models. However, no systematic synthesis has consolidated the available preclinical evidence. This review evaluated the therapeutic efficacy of M. oleifera in PUD using evidence from preclinical (rodent) studies. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We searched PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Li

Exploring the mechanism of Cinnamomum migao H.W. Li on gastric ulcer based on untargeted and targeted metabolomics.

Cinnamomum Migao oil (CMO), derived from Cinnamomum migao H.W. Li, is commonly used to alleviate stomachache in China, but its mechanism remains unclear. This research evaluated the protective influence of CMO against gastric ulcer (GU) in ethanol-treated rat models, using untargeted/targeted metabolomics combined with molecular biology experimental techniques to determine its mechanism. The data revealed that CMO significantly ameliorated gastric mucosal damage, reduced the ulcer index, decreased the contents of TNF-α, MDA, and IL-6, and elevated SOD and GSH levels in gastric tissues. Untarge

Mathematical modeling of the effects of screening and treatment of gastric ulcers as a control strategy for gastric cancer.

Gastric cancer is among the most common cancers in the world, and it has a significant negative impact on the health and economies of different countries, led by those that are developing. This study formulates a deterministic model for the transmission dynamics of gastric cancer through gastric ulcers, incorporating screening and treatment strategies. The model is thoroughly analyzed both quantitatively, qualitatively, and numerically. The key properties considered in the model analysis are positivity, invariant region, equilibria, stabilities, and bifurcation analysis. We compute the control

Pulmonary-Intestinal Axis: Shared Genetic Basis and Mediating Factors Identified Through Multi-Omics Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a systemic condition with comorbidities beyond the lung (eg, cardiovascular and metabolic disorders), and gastrointestinal (GI) disorders are also common. The shared genetic basis of COPD-GI comorbidity and its mediating factors remain unclear. We hypothesized that COPD and GI diseases share pleiotropic genetic architecture implicating lipid-metabolic pathways, with smoking mediating part of the association. METHODS: We analyzed publicly available European-ancestry GWAS summary statistics for COPD (Global Biobank Meta-analysis Initia

Protective effect of magnesium on indomethacin-induced gastric ulcer in mice.

Gastric ulcer disease is a common problem of the gastrointestinal tract, with increasing incidence and prevalence attributed to a loss of balance between aggressive and protective factors. Gastric ulcer is a chronic condition characterized by damage to the mucosal, submucosal, and muscular layers of the stomach, primarily caused by excessive secretion of gastric acid, pepsin, and other digestive enzymes. The role of antioxidants in promoting ulcer healing is well established. Magnesium (Mg), being a main macro element, exhibits various beneficial effects, including antioxidant, analgesic, anti

Gender Differences in the Effects of Esomeprazole on Ethanol-Induced Acute Gastric Injury in Mice.

BACKGROUND: A gastric ulcer is a common gastrointestinal disorder, particularly associated with alcohol abuse, leading to acute ulcers. Proton pump inhibitors, such as esomeprazole, are effective for treating acute alcoholic ulcers. However, their therapeutic effects vary, and the underlying reasons for these differences remain unclear. In this study, we investigated gender differences in the effects of esomeprazole on ethanol-induced acute gastric injury in mice. We evaluated the potential different gastroprotective effects of esomeprazole by modulating the receptor-interacting protein kinase

Gas Beyond the Lumen: Gastric Pneumatosis With Portal Venous Gas Following Blunt Abdominal Trauma.

Gastric pneumatosis with portal venous gas (PVG) is an unusual finding after blunt trauma, often regarded as an ominous sign of ischemia or perforation. We report the case of a 54-year-old man who sustained a fall and presented with mild abdominal pain. CT revealed gastric pneumatosis and PVG along with a liver injury, while endoscopy showed a 3 × 3 cm fundic ulcer (Forrest IIc). He remained hemodynamically stable, without peritonitis or biochemical evidence of ischemia, and was managed nonoperatively with proton pump inhibitors, antibiotics, and supportive care. He recovered uneventfully, wit

Endoscopically Deliverable Polymer Adhesives with pH-Triggered Multiple Molecular Evolution for Gastric Ulcer Repair.

Hydrogel adhesives show promise for gastric ulcer treatment, while facing challenges in endoscopic delivery, wet adhesion, and long-term gastric retention. Here, we engineered a sequential pH-responsive adhesive (PNMH) by polymerizing β-carboxylic-amide-functionalized N-acryloyl phenylalanine and hydroxyethyl acrylamide. Acid-induced protonation followed by hydrolysis of the β-carboxylic amide drives a pH-triggered quadruple evolution of intermolecular interactions from electrostatic repulsion to hydrophobicity-assisted hydrogen bonding, then to hydrophobicity-assisted electrostatic interactio
