Gastric Metastasis with Lobular Phenotype from a Primary Invasive Ductal Breast Carcinoma: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Breast cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related mortality in women, with common metastatic sites including bone, lung, liver, and brain. Metastasis to the gastrointestinal tract, particularly the stomach, is a rare occurrence, with a reported clinical incidence of 0.2-0.7%. Its nonspecific symptomatology and heterogeneous endoscopic presentation often lead to diagnostic confusion with primary gastric cancer or benign conditions. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 51-year-old woman with a history of stage IIIC invasive ductal breast cancer, treated 9 years prior with m

Heart rate variability in horses with naturally occurring gastric ulcers: Response to omeprazole and sucralfate treatment.

BACKGROUND: Equine gastric ulcer syndrome (EGUS) is the most common disease affecting the equine stomach. Heart rate variability (HRV) describes and quantifies the variability between consecutive heartbeats due to the neurohormonal regulation of the heart. It has been considered a non-invasive method to detect autonomic tone changes that can be influenced by pain and disease. AIM: This study aimed to assess the HRV indices in horses affected by EGUS submitted or not to treatment. METHODS: A cohort of 45 mares underwent baseline gastroscopy (T0); 24/45 mares diagnosed with Equine Squamous Gas

Sleep deprivation impairs gastric ulcer healing and induces anxiety-like behavior in rats.

OBJECTIVE: This study investigated the effects of total sleep deprivation (SD) on gastric ulcer (GU) healing, anxiety-like behavior, neuro-oxidative stress, antioxidant defenses, and prefrontal cortical histoarchitecture in male Wistar rats. RESULTS: SD exacerbated weight loss, elevated corticosterone levels, ulcer area, and delayed GU healing. Ulcer+sleep-deprived rats exhibited increased thigmotaxis, reduced center exploration, locomotion, and rearing. Biochemical analyses revealed sustained malondialdehyde elevation and decreased antioxidant activity. Histology demonstrated progressive pre

Silybin protects against ethanol-induced acute gastric ulcer in rats with PI3K/AKT-associated phosphorylation changes.

This study evaluated the effects of silybin in a rat model of ethanol-induced acute gastric ulcer (AGU) using network pharmacology-guided pathway prioritization, molecular docking, and in vivo validation. Network pharmacology identified 48 computational candidate targets. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment mapped these targets to 20 pathways, and PI3K/AKT signaling was selected for experimental assessment. Docking analysis indicated that silybin could be accommodated in the selected PI3K and AKT binding pockets. In rats, oral silybin pretreatment reduced macroscopic ulce

Combined radiofrequency electromagnetic and pulsed magnetic field exposure enhances gastric ulcer healing via eNOS-mediated angiogenesis in young rats.

BACKGROUND: This study examined whether combined exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic field (RF-EMF) and pulsed magnetic field (PMF)s confers gastroprotective and pro-healing effects in an acute ethanol-induced gastric ulcer model by modulating inflammatory, apoptotic, and regenerative pathways. METHODS: Thirty-two female Wistar albino rats were allocated into four groups (Control, RF-EMF+PMF, Ulcer, Ulcer+RF-EMF+PMF; n = 8 each). Gastric ulcers were induced by oral ethanol administration (0.5 ml/100 g). Our innovative exposure combination of 30-min active/90-min passive cycles of 27.12

Tissue repair and donor-dependent immune responses after allogeneic skeletal muscle-derived cell sheet transplantation in a rat gastric ulcer model.

Cell transplantation using cell sheet technology is a promising regenerative approach that enables the delivery of a large number of viable cells while preserving cell-cell interactions and extracellular matrix. However, the clinical application of autologous cell sheets is limited by donor-site invasiveness, prolonged preparation time, and high manufacturing costs. Allogeneic cell sheets may overcome these limitations, but their therapeutic effects and immunological profiles require further clarification. In this study, we investigated the tissue-repair effects and immune responses associated

Gastroscopic Evaluation of Gastric Mucosa in Horses Treated With Flunixin Meglumine or High-Dose Firocoxib: A Descriptive Pilot Study.

BACKGROUND: Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome (EGUS) is common in horses, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are a known risk factor for gastrointestinal ulceration. Although COX-2 selective NSAIDs such as firocoxib theoretically offer a better safety profile, endoscopic evidence for their mucosal safety at high off-label doses is lacking. OBJECTIVES: To compare the effects of label-dose flunixin meglumine and high-dose firocoxib on the gastric mucosa of a small selected group of horses using serial gastroscopy and histopathology in a descriptive pilot study. METHODS: Twenty mixed

Matrine pre-intervention protects against inflammatory responses and mucosal injury in rats with gastric ulcer by inhibiting mitochondrial ferroptosis through the PKC/NOX4 pathway.

OBJECTIVE: This study sought to investigate whether matrine (MAT) attenuates mitochondrial ferroptosis via the protein kinase C (PKC)/NADPH oxidase 4 (NOX4) pathway and to elucidate its role in inflammation and mucosal injury in the context of gastric ulcer (GU). METHODS: An ethanol/hydrochloric acid (EtOH/HCl)-induced GU rat model was established and pretreated with MAT, ferroptosis inducer Erastin, and PKC activator PMA, respectively. In vitro, EtOH-stimulated gastric mucosal epithelial cells (GES-1 and RGM-1) were pre-intervened with MAT in combination with Erastin or PKC modulators. Gastr

Gastroprotective Activity of Myrtenol Derivatives Obtained by Biocatalytic Esterification and Photooxidation.

Many naturally occurring substances exhibit anti-ulcer properties. One promising area of research is the identification of terpenoid compounds with enhanced therapeutic and gastroprotective properties. The present study aimed to synthesize new terpenoid derivatives of myrtenol via biotransformation using freeze-dried Cladosporium cladosporioides mycelium or via porphyrin-based biomimetic transformation, and to evaluate their gastroprotective activity in an ethanol-induced gastric lesion model. Five myrtenyl esters (acetate, butyrate, caprylate, pelargonate, and laurate) and two oxidative deriv

Lansoprazole incorporated β-chitin-lyophilised PRF composite hydrogel for treatment of gastric ulcer.

A gastric ulcer (GU) that leads to acute or persistent bleeding poses a considerable risk of fatalities. Despite their overall primacy, the current treatments for GU have major downsides of incomplete healing, antibiotic resistance, and secondary injury. To address these challenges, researchers have turned their attention to hydrogels to solve the therapeutic bottleneck of GU treatment. Based on this, we developed a β-chitin (β-ch) hydrogel incorporating Lyophilised Platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) with anti-ulcer drug Lansoprazole (Lns). The prepared hydrogel was characterized using FESEM and FT-

Effects of Low Methionine Intake on Gastric Ulcer in Patients and Mice: Role of the NNMT Pathway.

Excessive methionine intake exacerbates gastrointestinal toxicity in mice. Conversely, dietary methionine restriction (MR) suppressed the invasiveness and spread of gastric cancer cells. However, its effects on gastric ulcers (GU) remain unclear. This study aimed to reveal the relationship between methionine intake and GU risk and the role and regulatory mechanism of MR in mice with GU. Logistic regression analysis of the population data showed a significant positive correlation between higher methionine intake and elevated GU risk in adults aged 18-50 years (OR = 1.016, 95% Confidence Interva
