Administrative databases are useful tool to perform epidemiological and drug utilization studies, but they need a validation process based on a comparison with the original data contained in the medical charts. Variants in the prostate stem cell antigen (PSCA) gene have been linked with risk of multiple cancers and other diseases. But results have been inconclusive and no systematic research synopsis has been available. We did a comprehensive meta-analysis to investigate associations between variants in this gene and risk of nine cancers and four nonneoplastic diseases based on data from 55 publications including 81 961 cases and 442 932 controls. We graded levels of cumulative epidemiological evidence of a significant association using the Venice criteria and false-positive report probability tests.

Even in the era of Helicobacter pylori eradication and proton pump inhibitors, peptic ulcer remains an important disease. Stricture due to a duodenal ulcer in the healing stage is a well-known etiology of benign gastric outlet obstruction. However, a duodenal ulcer-induced submucosal tumor-like change with gastric outlet obstruction is a very rare manifestation. We herein present a rare case of a patient with deteriorating symptoms of gastric outlet obstruction caused by an unusual manifestation of a lumen-occupying protruding duodenal ulcer mimicking a submucosal tumor.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to identify the common H. pylori virulence genes among dyspeptic Southwestern Saudi patients and their association with clinical outcomes and histopathological findings to help practitioners and researchers in the region for better management of infections caused by such bacteria.
METHODS: Four hundred two gastric biopsy specimens were analyzed using histopathological examination and real time-PCR. The positive 187 specimens by RT-PCR were genotyped using PCR targeting cagA, vacA and iceA genes.

PURPOSE: Reirradiation has the potential to provide effective local control of upper abdominal malignancies. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of reirradiation for upper abdominal malignancies.
METHODS: A total of 42 patients with a history of prior radiotherapy (RT) received reirradiation for abdominal malignancies between 2005 and 2017. Each patient's medical records, contours, and dose distribution for both RT courses were reviewed. The median dose of the prior RT was 50.0 Gy (range, 30.0-60.0 Gy) and the median dose of reirradiation was 45.0 Gy (range, 15.0-75.0 Gy).

A 74-year-old man presented to the emergency department with acute abdominal pain in addition to anemia and melena, which were suspected to be due to gastrointestinal bleeding.
