This case describes a rare presentation of gastric taeniasis in a young woman with chronic atrophic gastritis and subcutaneous lesions consistent with cysticercosis. Stool microscopy confirmed Taenia spp eggs, though species identification was limited by the absence of morphological or molecular confirmation. While clinical evidence strongly suggested Taenia solium, this limitation is acknowledged. The case underscores the importance of clinical judgement in avoiding endoscopic removal, given risks of incomplete extraction, rupture and anaphylaxis. A staged pharmacologic regimen was employed:

Apoptosis has an essential function in maintaining the integrity of the gastrointestinal mucosa. Its deregulation is associated with the occurrence of lesions such as in atrophic gastritis, peptic ulcers, intestinal metaplasia, and stomach tumorigenesis. Thus, the aim of the present study was to investigate the frequency of apoptotic cells (apoptotic index, AI) by using two different immunohistochemical techniques, TUNEL and anti-activated caspase-3 antibody (CPP32), in gastric dyspepsia [chronic gastritis (CG, N = 34), chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG, N = 11), gastric ulcer (GU, N = 17), and

Snail-borne trematodiases remain an underrecognized public health concern in Sri Lanka. From May to December 2024, this study assessed the diversity and prevalence of cercarial emergence in freshwater snails from the Maha Oya River and examined environmental and anthropogenic factors influencing infection patterns. A total of four snail species were collected monthly across six sites, with Pseudoplotia scabra being the most abundant (73.9%) followed by Melanoides tuberculata (19.7%). Cercarial emergence was observed only in P. scabra and M. tuberculata, with three morphotypes identified: pleur

Gastric cancer(GC) is the fifth most common malignancy worldwide and the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Chronic atrophic gastritis(CAG) is the most common precursor lesion of GC, and its "inflammation cancer transformation" is a multi-step, multifactorial process. Based on the second law of thermodynamics, the theory of entropy disease posits that the essence of disease is a state of order imbalance caused by increased entropy in the body, which aligns with the pathogenesis of CAG's inflammation cancer transformation. According to this theory, the essence of CAG inflam

BACKGROUND: Gastric cancer (GC) progression entails profound epithelial-stromal remodeling, yet how epithelial metabolic programs are linked to myeloid-dominated immune exclusion and prognostic risk remains unclear. This study aimed to integrate single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and bulk transcriptomic analyses to characterize a lactate-myeloid-related risk axis in GC.
METHODS: We integrated six scRNA-seq datasets comprising 116 samples and 355,091 cells spanning paratumor (PT), chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG), moderate intestinal metaplasia (MIM), severe intestinal metaplasia (SIM), ea

At present, the gold standard for gastric cancer (GC) confirmation relies mostly on histopathology, an invasive procedure. Noninvasive detection methods using serum for large-scale screening may be useful for the early diagnosis of GC. Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection and chronic atrophic gastritis are major GC risk factors. We recently developed a noninvasive test called the DSC test-based on the patient's age, sex, their serum PGI and PGII, anti-HP immunoglobulin (IgG), and gastrin G17 levels-predicting GC risk as low (score 0, S0) or high (score 2, S2). The comparative investigation at th

BACKGROUND: Chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) is a premalignant condition with limited therapeutic strategies. The role of the oral pathogen Fusobacterium nucleatum (F. nucleatum), associated with gastrointestinal carcinogenesis, in CAG remains unclear.
METHODS: This study investigated whether F. nucleatum aggravates gastric mucosal injury through inflammation and mitochondrial dysfunction in CAG. A rat model of CAG was induced using N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) for 10 weeks, combined with oral gavage of F. nucleatum. Gastric pathology, bacterial colonization, serum cytokine lev

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication is crucial for gastric cancer (GC) prevention. However, increasing clarithromycin (CLR) resistance (CLRR) poses significant challenges. This study aimed to investigate CLRR patterns across different gastric diseases in Uzbekistan.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 279 H. pylori-infected patients with chronic non-atrophic gastritis (CNAG), chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG), gastric ulcer (GU), mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma (MALT-L), or GC between 2020-2022. Among 194 cagA-positive patients who received eradication

This study aimed to develop and internally validate a clinical risk prediction model for precancerous lesions of gastric cancer (PLGC) in Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori)-positive individuals by integrating H. pylori strain typing, serological gastric function markers, lifestyle factors, and host susceptibility polymorphisms. A total of 82 H. pylori-positive outpatients who underwent gastroscopy with histopathology between July 2020 and December 2021 were enrolled and categorized into a PLGC group (n = 38; chronic atrophic gastritis, intestinal metaplasia, and/or dysplasia) and a non-PLGC contr

BACKGROUND: Chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) is widely recognized as one of the precancerous lesions of gastric cancer. Helicobacter pylori is one of the important risk factors for CAG and gastric cancer. However, a large proportion of patients with CAG cannot avoid developing gastric cancer even after eradicating H pylori. It is necessary to find a safe and effective treatment to suppress this "inflammation-cancer" progression. The Qi-Lian-Xiao-Pi prescription (WW-1), a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), has been reported to be effective in the treatment of CAG. However, the evidence is subj

This study aims to assess the diagnostic efficacy of Helicobacter pylori antibody serotyping, current infection marker (CIM) testing, and urea breath test (UBT), both individually and in combination, for detecting H pylori infection in patients with type B chronic gastritis. A total of 159 subjects were enrolled for detecting the levels of H pylori antibody serotyping using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, anti-CIM immunonglobulin G antibody via immunochromatographic assay, and 13C-UBT using an infrared spectrometer. The results revealed that levels of H pylori serotyping antibodies and 13C-

Chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) is a pivotal precancerous condition in gastric carcinogenesis, with progression typically following the classic Correa cascade. Although Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is widely recognized as the principal etiological factor, the persistence of gastric cancer (GC) risk in a subset of patients after successful eradication suggests that gastric microbiota dysbiosis may also contribute to CAG progression. In recent years, high-throughput sequencing technologies have revealed distinct microbial restructuring in patients with CAG, characterized by decreas

BACKGROUND: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is the principal etiological factor for gastric cancer (GC), which ranks as the fourth leading cause of cancer-related mortality globally. Although the Correa cascade describes the stepwise progression from chronic gastritis to intestinal-type GC, the molecular events underlying this "inflammation-to-cancer" transition remain incompletely characterized.
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to delineate stage-specific proteomic alterations across H. pylori-associated gastric mucosal lesions and to identify candidate progression-associated biomarkers

SCIENTIFIC BACKGROUND: Meningiomas are the most common benign intracranial neoplasms with a slow growth presented as the intracranial lesion. These tumors are without any symptoms for a long time. At the time of diagnosis it is frequently an asymptomatic tumor. In that case the therapist may well suggest a wait-and-see strategy. The therapy of meningiomas focuses firstly on the microsurgical treatment. Volume reduction can be achieved immediately after treatment. Stereotactic radiosurgery is an important non-invasive treatment option for recurrent tumors or meningiomas with partial resection.

Background and Clinical Significance: Pediatric autoimmune gastritis (AIG) is a rare and frequently underdiagnosed disorder characterized by chronic immune-mediated inflammation and atrophy of the gastric mucosa. In children, AIG typically presents with iron-deficiency anemia (IDA) refractory to oral iron supplementation, in contrast to the pernicious anemia more commonly observed in adults. Diagnosis relies on a combination of serological markers, such as anti-parietal cell antibodies, and histopathological confirmation, with gastric biopsies demonstrating oxyntic mucosal atrophy and lymphocy

Chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) is a critical precancerous condition with limited therapeutic options to halt its progression toward gastric cancer. Targeting dysregulated metabolism and inflammation-driven transformation represents a promising yet underexplored strategy. Herein, through systematic screening of Jianwei Xiaoyan Granule (JWXYG)-derived compounds via molecular docking and surface plasmon resonance (SPR), we identified hederagenin as a potent and novel mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) binder (Kd = 1.30 μM). In a rat CAG model, hederagenin administration resulted in marked h

OBJECTIVE: Jiangfu Fuwei granules (JFFW) are a widely used clinical prescription for the treatment of chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG), but the underlying molecular mechanism remains to be explored. This study aimed to elucidate the therapeutic mechanism of JFFW in alleviating CAG.
METHODS: A CAG mouse model was established using a combined approach, and the mice were treated with JFFW for six weeks. Network pharmacology was used to screen for active ingredients and signaling pathways. Subsequently, in vivo experiments were conducted to verify the predicted mechanisms, including histologic ev

BACKGROUND: Depressive symptoms are common in gastroenterology practice but often missed due to patient stigma and the limitations of self-report questionnaires. This detection gap limits patient access to necessary mental health care. Although vascular dysfunction has been associated with depressive symptoms, the role of accessible peripheral vascular and autonomic measures in relation to concurrent questionnaire-defined depressive symptom burden in gastroenterology settings remains insufficiently studied. This study aims to evaluate whether vascular and autonomic measures are associated with

OBJECTIVE: Gastric cancer (GC) and its precursor chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) exhibit a high comorbidity with depression. However, the core molecular mechanisms underlying stomach-brain axis-mediated crosstalk between GC/CAG and depression remain poorly clarified. This study attempted to screen pivotal molecules correlated with the bidirectional correlation between GC/CAG and depression, and explore the inflammatory regulatory network through integrated bioinformatics analysis and systematic in vivo and in vitro validation, so as to provide potential clues for revealing their interactive r
